Q:
Just Reached Level 80 -- Now What?
Do what you feel is fun. What do you WANT to do? sPvP? Alting? WvW? Dungeons? Fractals? Crafting? Farming for your Legendary?
WvW is where I spend 90% of my time in GW2, the other 10% is for Ori’s in Lost Shore because I hate running Orr ori’s now.
The world is your oyster
But since you’re asking for suggestions – if you enjoy the story it’s worth completing the storyline, but also the story-mode dungeons. The Destiny’s Edge story takes place in the dungeons, but to complete the main storyline, you need the last dungeon in Arah anyway.
You can also finish off world completion. Apart from the title, you’ll get quite a lot of skill points, transmutation stones, and karma, as well as the gifts of exploration which you’ll need if you do decide to go for a legendary down the line. The higher level zones give 40 T5 or T6 materials on map completion as well.
Then there’s WvW which is great fun, and sPvP if that’s your sort of thing, not to mention all the jumping puzzles. You can work on getting an efficient farming run for the T6 mats – either for your own legendary or named exotic weapons, or to sell. See how quickly you can do the run.
You could also collect alts – working on getting a level 80 character in every profession can be good fun, although from your post I suspect you’d prefer to stick to one main character.
Anyway just few ideas, and most of the above (apart from the sPvP) are the things that keep me interested in the game.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
you do nothing, you just run fractals until you die. gw2 lacks a lot of end-game content all you can do is make your character look good which takes like 1 week and then you got nothing to do unless you like wvw
Easiest is to complete your story, do all dungeons in story mode, level your craft and work towards crafting a good rare equipment that’ll get you through exploration modes.
There is no endgame content in GW2. You go to boreland wvw or pvp. That or pointlessly grind dungeons.
This problem needs to be fixed!
We already had a great example in SWTOR!
now…everything.

That is if you can get a group to do the Arah story dungeon (last part of story mode)… Last few days I’ve spent an hour or so trying to get a group together; either no-one comes or they want to do EXP mode…sighhhhhh.
There is lots of things to do post lv80. The problem is it can become tedious and boring. My advise is to mix the tasks up – crafting, mob killing, dungeons etc. Travel across zones and harvest/kill all on your way. You will get the $$$ and b e able to sell on TP and craft items from lower tiers that you have missed (or give the items to your alts).

Pretty much nothing left to do. Once you have a level 80, you’re done unless you want to level up other profession to level 80.

Mixing is ofc the best option. No need to look for Arah Story Mode only. I never finished that part, tbh. I don’t think it’s that important.
I am having a hard time with this. I’ve spent more than half my playing time on my most played character after she turned 80. I am not even near done. Right now I am working on World Completion which cdould be giving me a headache, but I choose to see it as a challenge instead.
You don’t have to start grinding dungeons, but you might run all you haven’t so far once. Arah hasn’t been (officially) even available to you until now. Complete the story, no point stopping so near the end.
Try everything you haven’t tried so far and do those things you found fun before. You have lost nothing just because the one number has stopped changing.
Go to a beginning area and see if you can help new people. There are probably quite a few after Christmas. Might even make new friends. Of course you can also make a new character to play.
Thanks all so far for your help and suggestions. PS, I am on Anvil Rock and would love to join a casual guild that is up for running dungeons and helping.
Since I know nothing about endgame, here are a few followups:
1 – What are Fractals?
2 – If I am level 80 and I go back to run a level 50 dungeon, will the drops/gear be worthless?
3 – I hit 400 Jeweler last night but see there is still another ore out there..?
4 – I am level 150 Tailor but the mats are so expensive to power level and would take months to farm.. worth it?
5 – My gear (besides jewelery) sucks.. I am running mostly green with some blues. What is the quickest/most efficient way to get some decent level 80 stuff?
Thanks again!
“So, now that I am level 80, what to do?” err, grind, try to make some money and beat the ArenaNet money sinks, grind some more.
Whoops, forgot, #6 – I love my Elementalist. Any ideas for an alt? Never been in Warrior/Tank classes so anything but that :-)
