You’re in for a treat, the books are great! Wonder where those writers were during living story season 1…
It’s pretty great book I think…you should also check out Sea of Sorrows and Edge of Destiny if you happen to like that.
Hopefully will have good weather enough to read it.
Lucky you, GoA is the best of the 3 books imo.
Great to see that you also like the Personal Story, few here like it and I’m among the few that like.
Like Kapina said, search for the other 2 books after you finish GoA, those are quite cheap from Amazon and Barnes & Noble, I bought SoS from Barnes & Noble and I live in Brazil, the shipping was more expensive than the book, haha
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
i thought ghost of ascalon was the best of the three books. i reread it three times already
I agree with everything you just said, and I really enjoyed reading Ghosts of Ascalon. I like the way it was written, especially the fight scenes because you can tell it’s based on what characters can do in-game, but subtly. I find it fun to try and work out the attacks/skills they’re using.
(On a wider note if you enjoy it you might want to check out novels based on some other games you like, if there are any. Warcraft (both WoW and the RTS’s) have some good ones and I’ve heard Mass Effect and Assassin’s Creed have as well.)
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Here’s a challenge for you.
Once you finish the book, see if you can find the characters or places that are mentioned.
You might be surprised.
i remember reading GoA pre gw2 launch and thinking it would so much fun playing a golem-riding Asura in dungeons, then very reluctantly coming to the realisation it would never happen.
Can I just be the first to say you look god kitten ed adorable in that pic for some reason?

Yup, I’d have to agree. Cutest pic ever.
Just a tip:
In Lion’s Arch (Postern Ward) near the dungeon vendors, one of the book’s main characters can be found. Do NOT talk to this NPC before you finish the book! That dialogue contains spoilers of nearly everything that happens in “Ghosts of Ascalon”.
Oh man. That Blazeridge POI. Oh man.

Also, do NOT visit the skillpoint in the most northwestern corner of Fields of Ruin. There’s a major spoiler there.

Oh yeah. It’s a skillpoint, not a POI. So many feels.

Gotta ask why you’re sticking two fingers up at the camera? You know 2 fingers that way round is an insult, right?
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the book!
Post a review when your done!

I wondered about that. I thought maybe it’s only an insult in the UK (I’m fairly certain it originates here and is more common here) and in the rest of the world it’s the same as doing it the other way around – which means peace.

If I recall right it’s an insult to the French that the English used during the 100 years war. English longbowmen were a bane to the French and would often chop off those two fingers because they were used to draw back the string. So Englishmen would hold up those two fingers as an F-you to the French. I’m not 100% sure.

Yeah, that. I think the sign is an insult in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. In the US and many other places it just means “peace” or “victory”.
I liked Ghosts of Ascalon. I read most of the way through Edge of Destiny, but for whatever reason I didn’t finish it. I never even bothered with Sea of Sorrows.. maybe it’s alright, but come on, Cobiah Marriner? Surely they can do better than that…
It was so cold at the park! Got to page 89, and I cannot believe how much I’m enjoying this! The amount of positive remarks in this thread is almost overwhelming ^-^ thank you guys! Heading all advice as well.
‘Doh! I should know better :’) I’ve been in London for a couple months now for school, and I had to keep reminding myself not to throw up two fingers at drivers anymore LOL. Oh well, I can make another hand gesture next time. Back to America next month!

I know how you feel, man. I’ve never been so immersed in a game’s lore than Guild Wars, nor have I ever had so much fun with a game than this one.
My girlfriend bought all three books in the series. She finished Sea of Sorrows and Edge of Destiny and is working on Ghosts of Ascalon.
Me, I just finished SoS and am halfway through EoD.
You should seriously read SoS (awesome read), though be warned, you may cry a few times. No book has ever hit me that hard in the feels… ever. EoD so far is meh…. but you should still read it.
Anyways, it’s always cool to find someone as intensively engaged in Guild Wars as my gf and I are. Have a blast, mrauls, maybe I’ll run into you sometime!
Back to Tyria!
Anyone who appreciates all the lore they can get should definitely read the books. It’s not exactly Game of Thrones material, but it paints a good picture and gives a lot of extra context to the world. And as somebody mentioned above, a lot of things in these books can actually be found referenced in-game (especially SoS). There are some easter eggs for those who recognize them.
