Just bought the game!
Just picked up my copy and it is installing now. Looking forward to having a lot of fun in this game. I have played WOW, Tera, Rift, Aion, Lord of the Rings Online, Horizons, and Asheron’s Call.
The combat sounds a lot like the combat in Tera with dodging and I’m quite interested in the being able to cast spells while moving that sounds fun!
See you all in game.
No standing still and inferno’ing people :P And you can’t fail upgrading (slotting) gear here hehe
But welcome

Don’t make a ranger engineer or thief lol but welcome have fun
hehe thanks for the advice.
I was reading all the profession descriptions and I was looking at either thief or necromancer as I think either of those would suit my play style.
Welcome to the game. Don’t listen to the naysayers (there are plenty of them). Also don’t expect quite the same stuff you see in other MMOs. There are some pretty big differences in Guild Wars 2.
Combat in gw2 beats tera and wow by far. But get your wallet ready if you want cool looking items because arena net wants you to gamble all our dollars on the cash shop
welcome. btw ranger, thief and engie are more than ok, just as long as you play them according to their strengths and not pretending them to be something they are not.
Its a different game from the ones you played before, learn to dodge is my first and only advice.
Don’t be a thief? Thieves definitely aren’t the worst at anything right now, and excel in a few areas…
All the classes are playable; some just much more easily so than others. Depending on what type of play you prefer (PvE, PvP, WvW, a mix), some are more suited than others.
You should probably look around at the different servers before choosing, as moving to a new one will cost you 20$ or a hefty sum of in-game gold. Some are known for being more PvE, TC’s the roleplaying flagship, population varies and the World vs. World experience varies.
Personally, I’ve experienced a few servers since launch and didn’t have a reason to leave after I hit Sorrow’s Furnace. Good WvW contribution ???????????????, populated enough to meet people in the wilds without constant queues and overflows and generally nice/easygoing overall.
Of course, if you did pick SF, I happen to run a guild that likes helping its lowbies level… ^.~

Awesome!
I’m suffering from the “a watched pot never boils” syndrome right now it seems to be taking forever to install lol and then I know I need to do all the updates. Definitely looking forward to getting in game.

Welcome to the game.
You’ve got five character slots, so you can play both thief and necromancer a bit before deciding which you prefer (if any). Just bear in mind you’ve got no utility skills, elite skills, or traits to play with until you get some experience under your belt, so the early levels are kind of bare-bones.

But you can head to sPVP and see all your traits skills etc. Although that can confuse you, or at least it did me lol.

Sounds like WOW I always hated starting a new character and getting to lvl 20 before I started having fun. But barebones is ok as long as I can get the chance to learn the game controls and such before having too much thrown at me all at once.
Don’t take anything you read on the forums (besides dev posts and patch notes) seriously. This place is a pit of negativity.

I think it was Tera that started you out as a lvl 35 or lvl 40 for an introduction so you could see the skills that you would be getting later on. That confused a lot of players. I enjoyed it though the first time around I was like ok now i’m lvl 1 (after the intro) lol.

Almost all game forums are this way. I usually read forums for entertainment.

You’ll want to use the bare-bones levels to learn the core principle of dodging and fluid combat. You’ll also want to use this opportunity to unlock as many of your weapon skills as possible. This will give you a chance to learn what each weapon does, allowing you to decide what style you most enjoy.

Welcome. I’ve been to a many few of those myself, and though they mostly seem like each other with a different skin, this one is a completely different pickle jar. Some think that it’s combat is similar to Tera, but it’s not in that mobility plays a much greater roll here (especially with dodge, but that’s only a fraction of the equation that is GW2’s active combat style).
If there’s room, I recommend joining up on the Jade Quarry server, it’s a great home to make. Find a good guild quickly (or join ours [DA]Decisive Actions wink) and have a blast.
As for the playstyle, there’s much to do what you’d like whatever you’d like to do. World vs World massive server conflicts could use a good sword (or staff, dagger, scepter, whatever you wield so long as you’re not just throwing boulders all day….which you can do, but not recommended). sPvP is there for those that like the more controlled, evenly matched strategic combat. As for the PvE, this game has plenty. Take up your personal story, join in on the current living story, do dungeons, explore, JUMPING PUZZLES (joy!), vistas, dynamic events, and more.

Thief if fine, doing far better than WOW, Tera, Rift, Aion, Lord of the Rings Online, Horizons, and Asheron’s Call, at any rate. Grenadiers and flame throwers (engi kits) are coo too, for some things.
Yes, +1 delete your pesky rangers :P
Warrior+guardian+mesmer= holy trinity of the dungeon.
