No what you do is sign up for a new account. You’ll get the xpac on that account and you are free to keep your old account.

That’s what they should have done to begin with. This outcome was predicted months ago when people wanted season 2 for free. Surely ArenaNet also knew what was going to happen? GW2 was being pushed by ArenaNet for HoT at a $10 price tag just a few weeks ago. They should have simply bundled it at that price, so HoT for $49.99, HoT+GW2 for $59.99. To a new player, $59.99 is the standard price for a new game. The $49.99 was likely intentional however so it wouldn’t cost more than WoW.

It’s too late now however. Now all they can do is offer bonuses for existing accounts.

No you get charged the same amount but you get a new account with HoT.
