God, I miss the amount of stuff we have to do there. Don’t get me wrong, GW 2 beautiful to it’s core, but I wonder how long it will take for GW 2 to be as big as GW 1 regarding variety…

Just as curiosity, what you people miss the most on GW1 that is “lacking” on GW2?

Hard mode.

I also rather enjoyed the fact it was completely soloable with heroes/henchies but I don’t think that really has a place in GW2.

I give it a year. GW1 did not “blow up” until a year or so after it was put out or so most ppl said.
I only played GW1 for a bit just as it came out i did not like the feel it had so truly i think GW2 is over all a better game.

There’s one huge problem with wanting GW2 to have the same quantity of activities that GW1 offers:

How long GW1 has been out: 2858 Days

How long GW2 has been out: 177 days

Guild Wars 1 is more than sixteen times the age of Guild Wars 2.

Please remember that when GW1 first launched, it wasn’t as amazing as people think it is now.

Many many patches later do you have the gem you all hold near and dear to your hearts.

What I don’t miss, which took them a long time to fix, was Alessia’s AI and just overall hench AI. It took two more expansions to get Heroes released and took off from there. I couldn’t solo Factions with hench, but was a breeze with heroes and customizable everything.

I also miss the vast amounts of minions you could summon, but glad they don’t start dying the moment you raise them haha.

I miss how you could swap weapons between chars until you “customized” them so it soulbound it.

I also kinda miss the fact you can’t go back and replay missions like you could in gw1. As well as the bonuses associated with them if you completed certain discoverable tasks or speed cleared it.

Whenever I log into GW nowadays, I keep automatically pressing to roll and jump.

What I miss the most are a working LFG tool, rangers without pets, and story-line missions that encouraged team-building.
But, as others have already said, GW2 still has many more moons before we can really compare it to GW. Right about now, GW is at a place where no new content will be created (months ago, really, if you consider Winds of Change as the last new content add); this is where we should take a snapshot, and compare the content of GW2, say, 3 years from now, to the GW of today. I doubt it would even take GW2 that long to surpass GW in total content. Heck, compare GW2 of today to GW1 just before the addition of Factions, and I think there are still more things to do.

Don’t get me wrong, GW is way more polished than GW2, and right now I think much more fondly for the original than the “sequel”, but it’s obvious that the devs’ ability to add new content is way greater in 2 than in 1.

I miss GW1’s cutscene style. I really do. GW2’s style is incredibly jarring and a disservice to the beauty of the entire game.

As others have pointed out GW1 has been around the block a few dozen times already.
It didn’t always have those amazing heroes, in fact unless I’m remembering wrong those weren’t introduced until the 3rd campaign, Nightfall, was released. So for years the only options you had were people or really really bad henchies.
I still like GW1 but there are some things it’s hard to give back up, dodging, jumping, being able to move while using skills.

I do miss being able to replay missions though. And starting with a reasonable amount of storage space. -cough- and being able to ditch pets all together if I found them annoying -cough-

I never liked GW1 or the “stuff” you could do in it. It killed time but you know..i never did finish the final missions in the last 2 expansions. I actually quickly dumped a bunch of plat so I could finish my one elite set of armor that I have been wearing since for ever. GW2 much more entertaining.

It took half a year for GW1 to get its first content patch. It was only with factions that longevity content was added. Prophecies, good as it was, could be completed in 3 days and was a pvp game afterwards. PVE was fundamentally boring at launch.

So while I love how GW1 is a “complete” game, I do have the realistic expectations that it could take about a year before GW2 crystallizes into that same perfect spot.

Furthermore GW1 didn’t become perfect overnight. It was many, many incremental improvements that eventually led to the insanely good game it is right now. Factions introduced titles, which was proper end game. Nightfall introduced heroes which gave a dying game another chance. EotN gave hall of monuments which were achievements. Afterwards it’s easy to say that GW1 is a better game, it’s even more easy to forget how crappy it was at launch.

If I can’t play Guild Wars 2 at work, I won’t work in Guild Wars 2 either.

I downloaded GW1 yesterday. I logged in, checked my characters for birthday presents…. and went on staring at the screen. I didn’t know what to do. I have done everything I wanted in GW1 and gotten everything out of the game that I wanted.

I may play it again if a friend of mine (who started gaming with GW2 – it’s literally her first game ever) gets curious enough about GW1 to give it a try, but other than that… I can’t even get myself to complete my HoM.

Guild Wars 1 is more than sixteen times the age of Guild Wars 2.

On one side, it’s true. On another, it’s not like they are starting from zero – it is a Guild Wars 2. Lot of experience they got from the first game they could have used in this one. I’m also sure that GW1 has not been developed for as long as GW2 from conception to opening.

Heh, I quit gaming for a few months. Trying to decide if it’s even worth any time of my day anymore. A few weeks ago, I asked around these forums if coming back to GW2 was even worth it. Turns out, not really.

But ah, GW1. I just installed and played again, after stumbling on my old Nightfall Collector’s Edition box while looking in the closet for my good winter cap.

Something about that game, for years, I can beat it and beat it and beat it. It never gets old to me. I’ve completed everything that I could possibly ever want to do, on multiple accounts, but somehow, just popping in solo (or with two or three old friends) and vanquishing a zone I’ve vanquished a (maybe) a thousand times is still fun.

In GW2, I find none of the same appeal. Got my Legendaries in early, beat all the dungeons, won some tournaments… None of it is any fun at all to repeat. In fact, a lot of it simply cannot be repeated.

Gods, what I wouldn’t give to have a personal storybook, to relive storyline quests. Maybe a hard mode to spice them up a bit. Oh, and dungeons. Like dungeons I can do more than once a day without being punished by DR. Some vanquishes would be nice…

Oh, and for the record, Guild Wars: Prophecies was amazing at release IMO. Since it wasn’t really an MMO, it was an Action/RPG, with online capabilities. And for Action/RPG games for PC gamers in 2005, compare it with Fable: The Lost Chapters.

False. Fable TLC is an offline console RPG. Guild Wars vanilla should be compared to Diablo 2. And in that light, GW1 got the short end of the stick.
It did become brilliant after factions and especially with Nightfall, but for all the good things in Vanilla GW1, it was a short and relatively bland PVE game.

Exploration is such an important part of this game, I want Vanquishing to come back.
A chance to revisit each zone, but them being completely enemy controlled.

Vanquishing doesn’t work in a persistent world. The explorable zone in GW1 was instanced just for you and your party. I don’t think you want to visit cursed shore and see that there is nothing to kill because a player vanquished everything 30 minutes ago.

Hello,

While we appreciate your support about Guild Wars, these forum are made for discussing about Guild Wars 2.

Please note, that despite it’s the same license, Guild wars and Guild Wars 2 are two different games.
