Just finished the Frozen Maw event.
Maw was an event that desperately needed a buff. It was a terrible joke before this last patch. Now its great fun, you actually have time to use skills, have to move your character, dodge, and can vary up attacks and help other people out.
I am speaking from the perspective of the scaled down event. I did it with a huge number of people and it felt like the same old Maw, just longer. Did it with 8 and 5 people and had a great time.
We almost didn’t finish Shadow Behemoth earlier. Only 13:40 or so left on the clock. WHEW.
Not sure the new attacks on Maw are working. We were standing on his toes this morning and just wailed away at him without an problems. I saw some effects in the background that might have been attacks on the ranged guys, but they might as well have stacked on the shaman, too.

The attacks work alright, the damage is just too low.
The shaman himself attacked me the whole fight earlier today, autoattacks dealing roughly 90 damage each. The passive effect of Healing Signet outheals that.
This is pathetic. Bad game design 101.
Only increasing a mobs HP 50x doesnt make the fight more fun. It makes it tedious and not worth the time. The second phase attacks do nothing to make the fight more fun or interesting.
I think some of ANETs content designers need to be taken back to school. Either that or their QA teams are not doing their job or being given enough time to do their job properly.

Anet has a QA team?

The latter. They have to pump out content every 2 weeks I’m sure the QA team wants to quit their jobs at this point.

i think a few of the dragon needed a buff sb and the wurm and the elemental. i know sb its tough to get to sb when you try to do pre events and the wurm and elemental just went down rediculiously(may have spelled that wrong) fast. even the shatterer felt like it was too easy. maybe better rewards should be asked for so we time versus reward thingy doesnt get screwed up. go from auto rare to auto exotic
Just finished the Shatterer event… It was so disappointing seeing people run to his right leg as usual. After 6 minutes it was all over. He can’t do any harm to anyone attacking him. All his skills are just useless. You just stand there and auto attack for few minutes.
Errrr, finished the Maw too. Basically chatting with guildies while the character was auto-attacking without moving an inch. Then since it still wasn’t dead, started chatting on /s with the rest of the static autoattacking crowd about how ‘exciting’ that revamp was.
Oh for sure it was longer.
I guess I know what event i’ll attend next time i have some household chores that prevent me from being in front of the keyboard.
Save the Bell Choir activity!
I did the Maw and lagged out due to the number of people there. No chest when I came back in, but credit for boss week… Sure “glad” they got rid of culling in pve.
Seriously, a 5 minute timer might actually come close sometimes, but 15 minutes is hilariously long.
-Mike O’Brien
Because we can’t be angry about both?
Culling in pve was something that had to go. It was a nice idea but far too anal sometimes. What they should do to off set the increased lag is give us an option to turn down skill effects.
As for the boss fights themselves, don’t know if making the fight longer could be called an improvement. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see bosses get tweaked. I’d just rather the challenge was against a well designed skill set and not just burning down umpteenbillion health.
Ones like fire elemental, covington, and golem do alot more damage so it wasn’t just a health increase and a timer.

Players just standing there using autoattack on bosses probably aren’t noticing all the stability fields or condition removals used by other players.
If you think you can autoattack Frozen Maw, it’s only because someone else is doing the work for you.

Yeah, we’re unofficially A-Nets QA team and Beta-Testers

They did give us one. This is the result.
