Just started playing GW2 need help?
Fractals and raids will be endgame. if you have HoT raid beta is this weekend. So nobody knows what they will be like exactly. You can look them up tho there is some info on them. Fractals are a 5 man dungeon that you have to level up in to get rewards. Right now they are 1-50 but it’s going to be 1-100 with HoT.
Pick the class you like the most. You can play PvE with anything, PvP has some better options and some outliers, but if you know your class, you can play anything there as well. You have five slots, I recommend making a few chars and trying a few things out to see what you like best.
Easiest classes, in my opinion, are warrior for heavy, (staff) elementalist for light and ranger for medium. But it’s ultimately a matter of personal preference.
Endgame right now is Fractals, Silverwastes to a degree, dungeons, WvW and PvP, depending on what you prefer. With HoT, there will be new level 80 story content, new maps, and raids, which you can test this weekend if you want (and have access to beta content, that is). Basically, endgame content is group content.

Can anyone tell me what endgame is like in this game? I’ve recently quit wow after 11 years, and Iam very interested in exploring the GW2 world. Can someone recommend a good class for me to start with? at end game I’m looking to do mainly PvE with some casual PvP.
Regards
End game at GW2 is very very different then WoW. The final gear in GW2 is relatively easy to get and isn’t that more powerful than the tier just before it.
We often talk about Fashion War 2 because that’s a pretty big part of the end game. People collect a lot of things. Armor skins, Weapons, Legendary, outfits, tonic, etc. They give you no advantage whatesoever, but just make you look cool.
There is also updgrading your account. Those are mostly Quality of life improvement. You can pay for those with real life money or farm gold to buy them in-game. From unlimited tools, to more inventory or bank space to unlimited access to vendor/bank/TP, etc.
So for most people the end game is to grind gold to make their account prettier and more fun to use. From skins, to music instrument, etc.
But there is also end-game for content itself. Those are more about challenge and accomplishment.
Achievements : Some people like those things. I waste to much time and into that, but I love it
PvE : I would say the biggest end-game content for PvE would be dungeon/fractal and eventually Raids. You can run them normally with pugs and friend to get money/rewards. But you can push yourself to go through them as efficiently as possible. Several guilds competition to get a records on those instanced content. Other prefer to challenge themself by doing a solo run of that content that is suppose to be completed by 5 people. Again there, there is also record speed for solo run.
PvP/WvW : Well the end-game there is pretty strait forward. Getting better, having a better team and winning
As for which profession. They are all pretty good in most situation. For PvE, Necromancer is a bit behind everybody else, but we hope that they will fix that with the incoming Xpac.
I’m curious why leave WoW after putting 11 years in? If you are looking for a WoW but with updated graphics, then GW2 will not be enjoyable for you.
If you want something quite a bit different and more casual, then welcome to GW2!
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I see this question about “end-game content” frequently on the forums which is to be expected as most MMO’s are designed for some general linear progress through content that becomes increasingly more difficult with rewards structured accordingly to encourage this progression. However, the beauty of GW2 is that virtually ALL content is end-game content.
If you wanted to re-phrase the question as, “what is the hardest content to complete in GW2” then the answer would probably be level 50 Fractals or solo’ing dungeons. However, you could always start on Fractals before you ever finish such basic things as your personal story, or before getting map completion done. Or, you could start pvp’ing or hitting wvw on your very first day if you wanted. Dungeons can be started at just about any level as long as you are looking for a challenge or have some experienced support.
The point being, it is best to approach this game as an open playing field – give everything a try, and pursue whatever it is you want to achieve and enjoy most.
I agree with Silvatar; this game’s focus isn’t really “endgame”. It’s about the journey. That journey doesn’t involve a lot of hand-holding and pointy arrows that lead you to the next thing, either. I think the folks who’re happiest with this game set themselves goals to attain. GW2 doesn’t really do that for you, but it will offer many options for goal objectives— achievement chasing, collections, legendaries, fashion, mini-pets, world exploration, etc.
As for a good class… that depends upon your playstyle. Tanky? Warrior. Glass cannon? Elementalist. Simple to learn? Warrior, again. Considered difficult? Engineer.
Melee or ranged? Soloist or group-friendly? I like Red Queen’s suggestion just to try a few classes. Get the feel of the game and how each plays before you choose a “main”.
Welcome! I hope you enjoy the game.
