…is just wrong.

I started of playing as Mesmer and up to lvl 30 it was a bit hard, but since it’s start i though it has to be bumpy. Then i thought to myself let’s check out other classes just for sports.

So first i tried guardian and it was astonishing. Somehow nothing was hard anymore. Packs? Easy mode, Map events? Cake. Some map bosses? Ok, I died few times, but after getting grip of it doable. Unlike Mesmer I was capable to do stuff on my own. I just run with Gsword/scepter/shield. Leveled it to 25 and went warrior.

Warrior was another easy mode class. I don’t say it doesn’t require skill, but hell it was so much easier than Mes and similar to Guardian, I felt power once more. Gsword only, I don’t remeber a moment I had to switch to anything else, nor I felt urge for it. Leveled till lvl 25 and deleted. Ranger goes next.

I thought War/Guardian was easy mode. ROFL! Nothing beats leveling a ranger. When I was super concerned about going to TP every now and then as I was leveling classes above to upgrade my stuff, I’m quite sure you can lvl this one totally solo mode on every event leveling locations may throw at you, naked with weapon only. Sbow/Gsword but I don’t remeber myself using gsword for anything. 25 lvl and deleted. Ele is up.

Elementalist is just as squishy as mesmer maybe even more. Giving him like any melee weapons seems wrong to begin with. I really didn’t liked this class becouse daggers seemed like bad idea, and scepter/staff (no switch button WTF!) was dull gameplay for me. Leveled till lvl 15 or so and just moved on to Thief.

Thief was fun but overally it was 1,2 spam with occasional F1 and haste utility and heal to loose aggro, it was still twice as much buttons I used on War, Guardian or Ranger tho. Played to lvl 20 had enough. Double dagger and pistol/dagger worked well in one on one but if i had to handle a group, it got painful (short bow is bad aoe compared to any class above). Probably it changes drasticly when elite is up on lvl 30.

I didn’t tried necro. I just don’t like being creepy dude with minions back in gw1 so i skipped here as well. No idea, but since 2 out of 3 light armor wearing classes was painful i suppose outcome will be that this one is too. So, Engineer…

Flamethower is best thing u can get so till like lvl 5 and fast skillpoint farm it wasn’t so painful, but it was like Thief expirience, but progress was slower on 1v1 and faster on packs. Tho i did decent on events.

So why is it wrong? Am i seeing things or classes that are most op are acctually the ones with more weapons available to use than others and have mid armor+? It’s like you have this armor ranking (since there is no trinity like in other MMOs) when heavier the armor, closer to one-man-army you are. Does it change later on, like lvl 40+? Does this game struggle with balance that much on lvl 80? I ask, becouse it’s reasonable to see that coming if there are such vast differences now, on low lvl.

I’m still gonna lvl mesmer, but it kinda leaves sour taste, knowing how much easier it would be on other classes.

Mesmer is historically hard in PvE and often slaughters in WvW and sPvP. While there are still many successful Mesmers in PvE, they specialize in confusing players (which is far easier than confusing a computer AI program) and locking down an opponent while they mercilessly kill them. As a result, the class naturally lends itself towards hunting down other players and isn’t the easiest choice for dealing with hordes of PvE mobs.

As far as I know, it was intended that some professions are harder to play well/ to master, yes
Also, some professions are just a tad better at PvP than PvE and vice versa…
But then, I know a couple of mesmer players who think their profession is pretty OP in PvE, too. Depends on your build and playstile I guess.

(I have to agree though that guardian feels like easy mode – although I find that one particularly boring to play…)

did ranger first to lvl 80 pugged once (arah) the rest i did solo.
ranger was easy cakes considering the bugs it has and kitteny weaponry.

then i made a mesmer leveled up to 80 now and yes once i got in orr it started to get troublesome with the insane spawn rate of the undead i just cant solo it (as of yet) i just figured to make me some nice full blown armor (no not need ascended stuff just maxed out) and see from there a nice build to do the stuff. next be warrior i think just so i can breeze through most stuff. after that…. no clue. time will tell.

Yup, mesmer is better at PvP environment, but it’s not really that hard in PvE, you gotta learn the ropes and spec it more accordingly.

First of all, Mesmers are exceptionally powerful in PVP, so it makes sense that their PVE experience would require a little more work. Warriors are also powerful, but vs skilled players they’re generally easier to handle due to their straightforward style and guardians are tanks. Tanks always have the easy road because they don’t die.

Try leveling an Elementalist.

Yea, ele is not my cup of tea too. I would also ask is it bug or intended mechanic to lock on targets even if they are in stealth? I saw that when i go stealth any channeled skill was still hitting me even tho i stealthed away from it.

Mesmers are actually pretty easy to play in PvE.
I fight hordes of enemies without dying. The weapon choices are well designed and AI monsters are easy to confuse just as much as Real Players in PvP.

Have you tried swaping weapons and kiting while making clones and such? You’ll be pretty much unstoppable in PvE

Hello Langley,

I just started playing aswell and I have to agree with few of your comments about certain classes. I have to agree that Warrior and Guardians are very easy to play with, they did not require alot of input on my part and it was one of the reasons, why I deleted those classes.

I did find it strange that classes like Mesmer, Elementalist and Necromancer had to use alot of skills to get the same results as a Warrior or Guardian. If you are a Warrior in PvE content, there is hardly any use of switching a weapon, since signet spec with number 2* skill of the greatsword kills everything in its path.

I just made a thief and while the thief is not a underpowered class, I do like that I am required to use stealth skills and dodge to survive. So far I am almost level 25 and its fun. The only downside is the shortbow is intended as our main AOE weapon, but it feels so bad.

I was told by a guildmate that using the 1hsword+gun/staff is a nice leveling weapon for mesmers.

I think the rotation was something along of: Chaos Field —-—> Chaos Armor —-→ Phase Rethreat then switch to sword/gun —→ Frenzy somthing.

A experienced Mesmer will probaly help you more. Hang in there and have a fun time in Guild Wars 2

It’s not necessarily the ease of which you do things that makes a profession overpowered, but how efficiently you do it. The only real difference between the different professions is survivability. Heavy armors survive by having high armor stats, and professions like the Mesmer and Thief survives by being evasive. The thing just is, that mobs are much harder to deceive then to humans, as their behavior have to be coded, while a human just acts naturally to what he/she sees. So surviving with a Mesmer becomes noticeably harder in PvE. But it’s worth mentioning that mobs change tactics the higher level you get, and start to dodge roll out of your attacks, as well as using control conditions like daze, stun, or even confusion. Dungeons also demands that you spend more time playing a support role, which is something that solo play will not give a good insight in either. The game is also not only balanced according to PvE, but PvP as well. So overall it’s not really fair to judge a profession based only on playing 20-30 levels in PvE, without trying anything ells. It’s a nice way to get a good insight into how each profession plays, though.

The reason why it’s done this way is to allow for diversity. Some players like playing difficult professions, other like play easy professions. However, the difficulty of a professions scales a lot depending on how you build it, and what content you are playing. And player skill also plays a big factor in Guild Wars 2, especially in PvP.

OK, Kasama, but i don’t really judge proffesions based on 20-30 lvls. It’s just my personal experience so far and if you would read my post till the end you would notice me asking if it evens out somehow later on(higher lvls).

I have this game for a week or smth like that so i’m in no point of judging anything yet, since i don’t have full picture. I just wanted to ask if balance diffrences are so vast on 80 as on low lvls.

I wasn’t trying to write in a harsh tone, if that was your impression.

As I haven’t played all professions to 80, I can’t say for sure about how balanced they all end up being at 80. I can say this, traits and how you spec your armor make a difference in how easy game play is, your build basically. I can tell you that at level 80 when doing group events such as 3 or 4 people on a champion, I have often had to raise a guardian. As a level 80 mesmer, I can kite like there is no tomorrow and I blow up my clones all the time for aoe damage. I can also say that when doing dungeon runs with my group of friends, I usually die half as often as my guardian (granted he likes to spec for magic find and while I make sure I have a decent amount of vitality and toughness as I like to dual wield swords).

So anyway, I have played guardian and warrior up to level 20, and I find mesmer way more interesting to play, though I realize at level 20 you’ve barely touched your traits, and traits tend to make gameplay a lot more interesting. Honestly I think you get a lot of the balance between professions at level 80 when you have your full set of traits to work with. I’m sure that there is still some difference in ease of survive-ability even at level 80 between the professions, but I don’t think it’s quite as big of a difference as at the early levels, I think traits really make all the difference.

And as for mesmers being harder in PvE, maybe sometimes, but I honestly think it’s such a fun class to play, I have a blast and I have no problem soloing in Orr as long as I don’t try and do a group event by myself. But I have no problem killing things fast enough and can handle 3 or so risen at a time without too much trouble. If I get too many on me, like five or six, I just pop up some clones for distraction and book it out of there. Anyway, I think you’ll have fun and find the mesmer is quite capable and useful at level 80. Enjoy!

Also, a HUGE thing about GW2 professions is your own play style and personality.

Certain people are just naturally better at doing Mesmer stuff from the beginning because that’s how they play.

And, well, as much as I love ANet, a lot of fixing needs to go in to non-Warrior and Guardian classes. They’re doing it, but slowly, so it’ll be a while before everyone is standing on even footing. And that makes sense, cause data is needed and a lot of it to make informed changes.

I have a level 80 Mesmer, Ranger, and Warrior and have played all professions to the 25 to sixties range. The Mesmer was my most recent 80 so the leveling experience; got her to 80 three days ago, is fresh. First off, the Warrior is ezmode in PvE as most mobs will line up nicely for a 100B nukedown, notsomuch in PvP. Ranger, if you have the kiting mechanic down and 5 points in beastmastery everything will stay off you and you have some strong damage and AoE.

The Mesmer. My favorite and easiest profession to level so far. First off, in a GS-S/P power/crit build, the damage is excellent. Second, the skills just are easy to get off while kiting. I can zone out it kitemode and kill just about anything. (I avoid champs with adds if there is no group) I remember an escort quest the other day with another guy who said don’t go in there, they’ll swarm you. I chatted back: they can’t touch this and went in. Mesmer, for me, is untouchable. With the Warrior, as strong as he is, if I’m all of a sudden getting focused heavy, I’ll die like a clothie. My Mesmer is untouchable.

So, yeah, it’s all about playstyle and preferences around the professions as has been said. If you are a kiting fool, you’ll love and do great with the Mesmer.
