Hey, I was recently looking for a new MMO Decided to invest into Guild wars 2, i was curious to is there Servers that people would recommend a British player? or are all good?.

Also what are the classes like?… by what i have read, the Warrior and Ranger are the easier classes while Elementalists/Thiefs and Engineers are more difficult with more combinations to make for their DPS, but is there any more detail people are able to explain?

Thankyou for any answers.

It doesn’t matter too much which server you pick (reasons below) but I recommend avoiding any with [FR], [DE] and [SP] tags because those are designated French, German and Spanish language servers. You will still find people speaking all languages there, and you’ll share PvE maps with people from other servers, but that will be the main language.

I don’t know if you’re aware but GW2 uses a system called ‘mega-servers’ which basically means all maps except World vs. World are shared between servers. You are more likely to be placed into maps with people from your server (you’re also more likely to be put into a map where people on your friends list or in your guild are playing) but especially if there’s not many people in that zone you’ll probably find there’s people from many different servers there.

But also this game isn’t as strongly divided as some. Back at launch I was told Desolation and Gandara were going to be the unofficial UK servers, and I picked Deso, but we’ve always had large Russian and Dutch guilds and players from all over Europe and even further away.

Ranger - Fairly easy to level and play with because you always have a pet companion with you. The pet can help revive you if you’re down, among other things. Only issue is your pet is about 25% of your damage, so you need to rely heavily on it doing what you want it to.

Warrior - Not my personal favorite, but it has a wide variety of weapons and builds. I suggest having a warhorn in your off-hand for the constant swiftness uptime if you’re running around a lot.

Elementalist - Difficult to get used to because of the four attunements. By default, they have more skills at any one point in time than all other classes except an engineer with 4 kits. However, a lot of PvE content can be done in fire attunement with a staff. PvP is not so forgiving though, and they have the lowest health pools.

Engineer - Difficult to start out with, as you need to get utility kits to damage things properly. Has the potential for the most skill combinations, and like the elementalist is a tough one to master for PvP. Also like the elementalist, the Celestial meta build is top-tier right now.

Thief - Squishy but agile. Dagger/Dagger or Sword/Dagger are great melee sets that offer lots of evasion, and Pistol/Pistol is really useful for soloing veteran and champion creatures. Playing thief means you have to be really jumpy, so it’s not a playstyle for those who want to take it a little easier.

Necromancer - They have the largest health pool and can take on multiple enemies at once while in death shroud. You can also summon undead minions to help you, which can be useful for soloing content.

Mesmer - Very confusing if you’re not used to it. Many of your skills produce clones or phantasms that attack your enemies and can be remote detonated, but you can only ever have 3 at a time, and you need to keep track of your cooldowns so as not to put too many out at once.

Guardian - Very tanky, but a low natural health pool. They have a lot of weapon choices, but you are mainly restricted to melee range (for now). They have really good group support skills and can take a lot of hits before going down. You can solo a lot of stuff with them.

Generally warrior, ranger, necro and guard are pretty easy to level
thief is more difficult , ele and mesmer can be a little frustrating,
Leaving engineer which I found not so difficult to lervel, but mastering was too much for me at start, now with a lot of experience (combo fields & finishers) on other characters I enjoyed my engineer more.

You can make 5 characters on a new account.
I will say only this, get an easy proffession and a somewhat difficult one at start
I started out with ranger (day 0), necro (day 0), ele (day 28) and warrior (32), with guardian (48) a little later

1st character will take ~30-60 hrs to level, additional ones will be faster.

I have 16 lvl 80’s now I have 9 characters with map,

3 warriors (2map)
3 necros (2map)
3 rangers (1map)
2 eles (1map)
2 guards (1map)
1 mesmer (1map)
1 thief (1map)
1 engineer

I’ve deleted a mesmer and an engineer (both l80 ~6 months ago,)

Some people tend to be biassed against rangers and necro’s which is a remnant of the past. No class is bad, none are truly OP. Engineer, mesmer, thief and ele tend to be more difficult… levelling, short term and long term.

23 lvl 80’s, 9 times map, 4ele, 4ncr, 3war, 3grd, 3rgr, 2thf, 2msm, 1eng, 1 rev.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.
