So every day when I log in I go on a harvesting run. This run starts at my home instance as I have quite a few harvesting nodes in there.

Everyday I do this I advertise in the LFG tool to see if anyone wants to come harvest my nodes and that they are free to join me on my rounds.

My question is, is it against any rules to do this?

I just had someone join my group just to abuse and threaten me saying that I’m being reported for abusing the LFG system and that I’m going to have my account banned.

Is this true?

As far as I know being a nice person and sharing my harvesting nodes isn’t against any rule… I mean I’m not charging people and if they didn’t want us to do that then why do they even let us bring people in there to start with?

I just thought I’d ask here in case I’m wrong. :/

You’re allowed to advertise this. I’m pretty sure the only thing I’ve seen a a red tag confirm that they (Anet) don’t want is for people to advertise direct trades on the LFG. Of course, I could be wrong. Someone will come along to confirm or not.

(fairly sure I’m right though)

You’re looking for a group to do content. Admittedly it’s very limited content, harvest nodes in the home instance, but it is doing content.

It might get iffy if someone is asking for gold to access the nodes, but afaik, it’s not against the rules.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

What about selling access to ones home instance for gathering resources? Namely I just spotted this new type of selling in lfg just about an hour ago : " Sell access crafting nodes (17) for 20 silver…..->" . Does it belong to the dungeon sort of selling section or is it abusing the lfg due to selling access to “items”?

Advertising an access portal is not allowed.
Guild Recruitment is not allowed.

Both are unrelated to forming a group and therefore are not part of the intended purpose of the Looking for Group Tool.

I wonder if it would be disallowed to list a LFG to farm nodes together in the world? (To do it as a group for fun so it won’t be too boring). If that was allowed, why not a LFG to farm a home instance, where the person is not asking for payment but as a friendly offer.

It really is rather inconsistent. It’s allowed to sell access to the last boss in a dungeon but doesn’t allow a group to form for non paid for access to the home instance? Both are forming a group to do something that may only last a few minutes.

I suspect she said that as a reflex answer to the question of selling access to the home instance as I find it not logically consistent to disallow that but to allow dungeon selling of the last boss.

OP, just announce in map chat that you will let people in your home instance to farm. You’ll get lots of takers and won’t have to worry whether this is allowed or not in the LFG.

That may be.

Still, up to the OP to decide if a temporary ‘vacation’ from the game would be worth it, while communicating back and forth with the CS Team after a false positive, or something.

Good luck.

There is a difference between selling access to the nodes, and just offering to ferry people in. To me, what the OP is doing is no different than people ferrying into specific instances of SW, DT, or for Teq/Queen. Are those not advertising an “access portal”?

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

That’s what I did at first and people just told me to use the LFG tool.

Guess I’ll send a ticket into support and see what they say even thought It’ll likely just be some automated blanket response that doesn’t really answer my question. :/

If you do get a real answer, be sure to update the thread with it. This was asked in the thread linked above but never fully answered in there.

Advertising the access portal through the LFG is against the rules, irrespective of if party members are paying for it or not.

Gathering a node is hardly group content.

@Lanfear As for taxiing people into DT/SW/Teq/Tri-Wurm… well, that clearly is group content. That’s the difference

EDIT: If you think it’s unclear (although personally I think what Gaile said is perfectly clear on this matter), why would you even risk getting a supsension for it? Use map chat/say chat instead of LFG, make sure you don’t spam it and you should be ok.

Wouldn’t the “need a group” aspect also making selling final bosses illegal? Since you aren’t joining for group content, you’re buying a service.

I doubt that you’d get in trouble because you’re not selling anything. You’re offering a service for free.

I have every node available for my home instance, and I like taking in a full party when I do my daily gathering. I just post four or five times in the map chat that I’m hosting my home instance. I only ever take one party through each day, but I don’t have the patience to wait around for a full party sometimes.

I think you’d be safe, as long as you’re not advertising to sell, especially if you’re careful with how you phrase your LFG listing. “Making a group for a gathering node run” or something like that would probably be just fine. Or you could try just doing map chat again.

I usually say “Free home instance harvesting. Feel free to come on my harvesting run afterwards.”
