I made Eternity not too long ago, I have a ascended staff (Ebonmane’s Spire) Weapon Strength is 1,034 -1,166. Stat’s are 134 Toughness, 188 Healing Power, 134 Condition Damage. My Eternity has Zerker stats (which I know has nothing to do with weapon Strength) but my Eternity’s weapon Strength is 1,045- 1,155. Also, why is it it has the same weapon strength as an ascended GS? What is the point of putting all this money into legendary’s if the stats are the same as ascended but ascended is cheaper to make. I find it extremely odd that a ascended staff ( that is mainly for support on most characters) and healers stats would be of a higher strength than my Legendary Eternity that took me not 1 but 2 legendary’s to make. I am extremely disappointed after seeing this, and really just want both my legendary’s back instead of Eternity, at least I can have 2 legendary’s back that I can change my stats on both. I think Eternity is pretty and nice effects, but really not worth it when a Ascended staff has a bit more weapon strength. I know Eternity has 11 more points right off the bat, but the Staff can have the chance to be higher when hit. Kind of disappointing and wish I never made it. I spend all this money for something that is no better than the rest when it takes so much more to make. I guess I should of really looked at every single weapon before making it so yes my bad, just really down and no longer excited about having my Eternity, it took me months to make and now I kinda want to take a break from the game before I quit. I was going to make another legendary but there is no way. Too much grind for really nothing. All making a legendary is for, is to say "look, I grind the game so much, I have no life and here’s what I have to show for it… some foot prints " Maybe if someone could explain the reason for it, and why my legendary eternity is better I won’t feel as bad, but me looking at it on my screen, isn’t making me feel any better about it.

Legendaries always had the same stats as ascended (and exotic before). I’m sure you were aware of this before making it?

Anyway, comparing damage ranges of different weapons means nothing, because none of the weapons share any skills. It’s like literally comparing apples to oranges. The only damage range you should compare is between the same weapons.

GW2 made a promise to not follow the vertical progression treadmill, this is how they keep that promise…. Legendary is for horizontal progression.

Yes I do feel silly not really looking before I made it, as a legendary does take a lot to make, I guess I should of. I’m still disappointed, regardless. I was asking a serious question, I didn’t post this to be criticized either guys lol Kinda still a noob regardless and forever learning in gw2 so take it easy

There is no justification to be had in making Eternity. Be at peace with that and you will enjoy your masterpiece. Think of it like art and not as a better tool.

I love mine, and I love my Bifrost, and Dreamer, and Kudzu. Sure,I could have saved the gold, but what else would I do with it?

When I made my Axe and Dagger a year ago when I started playing I was told but a old guild mate that it had better stats than a exotic but a lil less then a legendary and never checked. All I did when making it was wiki the recipes to make it, and the effects, didn’t bother to look at stats. Thought a legendary was the best highest weapon to make. If that helps you understand my post.

Just another reason why I have a lot of respect for GW2, it has done really well to avoid power-creep in the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bxszx60ZwGw

I understand the frustration you might feel for not having obtained a greater advantage over other players in the game but legendary weapons are mostly about ‘prestige’. My advice would be to simply be happy and pleased with yourself for having obtained one (if not thee) hardest item to get in the game. Not only do you have an awesome looking weapon, but you have accomplished what very few players have managed to do. I seriously doubt I will ever get an Eternity so to hear someone unhappy about getting one is, well……let’s just say, hard for me to sympathize with you (ya, I am jealous lol). Just enjoy it for what it is.

Point 1. Legendary will always have the best stats in the game, even if they introduce a new tier above ascended.

Point 2. All weapons have different strength numbers to each other. The fact that your staff has higher strength than your greatsword has nothing to do with the fact that they are ascended/legendary. All staffs have higher strength than the same tier greatswords.

Point 3. Weapon strength alone does not determine damage. Weapon strength plus skill damage modifier determines damage (plus other things). If you look into these numbers you will see that greatwords always do more damage per second over staffs.

Point 4. You should not have taken your guildie’s word at face value, and you probably should have looked into this before investing a lot of time and money.

Point 5. Quitting the game because of this would be ridiculous…

It’s just that it was a lot of time and gold, I feel like 2 would be better than 1. So yes to me quitting over losing all this time for something I don’t quite like and finding out it isn’t what I thought kinda seems right. I could of enjoyed the game instead of grinding for it. I’m just not sure it was worth it over a skin, I could of made ascended cheaper and bought a skin I really liked, skin the ascended and then bought mini’s which are something I do actually care about. Having higher dps isn’t really all that matters to me. I just thought with all the money and time it would be something bigger better grater if you get what I mean. I don’t mean to sound ungrateful but it’s not like it fell from the sky, I did have to earn it.

This is my first mmo, still understanding builds, dmg, numbers ect, I guess I don’t understand weapon strength. I understand your points about making a legendary, just maybe I need to understand the rest about the dmg and ect to be comfortable with it and to continue playing like the last few months weren’t a waste of my time.

Not really a higher tier in the normal sense.

Legendary has an advantage over ascended in the ability to switch stats. This makes alternate builds and the like easier for a character with a legendary than one with ascended. Legendaries also have signature cosmetics in the form of footprints and unique appearance.

All making a legendary is for, is to say "look, I grind the game so much, I have no life and here’s what I have to show for it… some foot prints "

That’s pretty much it. People usually sugarcoat it, but remember that endgame is standing around LA/DR in your fancy skins. This is a game about vanity.

Curious, did you notice the stats on Twilight or Sunrise, or just craft them all at once for some reason? Or did you buy in on the TP?

I crafted Twilight, equiped it on my guard I made to 80 thinking I would try and play something else other than Necro. I didn’t like Guard all that much so I didn’t play it, it was the first GS I had at lvl 80. Never checked the stat. I went back to my Necro and wanted to make another legendary and Eternity was the only one I like the footprints for so I decided to make Sunrise to make Eternity to hopefully start playing my guard again. Which I can say it has done that, haven’t been on my Necro since. Just feel like silly not knowing before I just did that or I probably wouldn’t had, kinda wish I would of made Bifrost or incinerator instead and just kept twilight.

Guardian isn’t the only class to use a greatsword, you know. Mesmer, warrior, and ranger use them as well, and are rather fun. Before you drown yourself in regret, I recommend trying the other greatsword classes.

It’s not so bad. As long as you had fun playing to get what you needed to craft it, I think that’s the more important part :-)

The nice thing about them having only slightly better stats is that no one just expects you to have one, like in dungeon groups, etc.

But actually, you don’t have only 1 legendary to show for it. You have 3.
Get back up on the horse and start making another one if you feel like it.
Then look at it this way .. You got 3/5 for legendary collector achievment by getting eternity. That’s the same I’ve got for getting 3 different legendaries. So you’re ahead of me by only crafting 2. Maybe this can comfort you just a bit? Idk.
I wouldn’t really feel I wasted money by not getting asc instead. There is really no use for asc unless you play alot of fractals.

Legendary = change stats whenever you want and “if” they make a higher tier of armor/weapons it will scale up to it.

I would like to be able to remove or replace sigils in legendarys for free without losing any of them tho.

Craft Sunrise and Twilight, combine them into Eternity, sell the result. You still get both skins. A glowing gem on the hilt and slightly different footfalls is not worth over 4k gold (well over several hundred real dollars). My humble opinion.

Carry on.

Unbelievable… anyways, you know that you have unlocked the skin and can give the skin to any of your characters – so basically you have Twilight, Sunrise and Eternity (even Dusk and Dawn). Just go to the wardrobe.

P.S. Please don’t use ‘would of…’ instead of ’would’ve/have’ – it’s cramatically completely wrong and hurts my eyes.

I’d like one Legendary on my main purely for RP and character theme but I’ve lost all motivation to attain it. The grind is just too overwhelming and what little game time I get is better spent having fun for me personally.

I’d just chill on over-analysing it OP. Just stand around in a hub showing it off like all the other dorks do :P

Of course, it would probably be cheaper and less grindy to craft multiple ascended weapons of the same type with the various stats you want than to craft even one legendary. So, the multiple stat thing is not that important. As for the signature cosmetics, I would love it if Anet would offer us the ability to turn that graphic off, so I didn’t have to watch someone run around with a sparkly bit in their hand leaving pretty little flowers behind – like some sort of My Little Pony homage.

it is a status thing.

You actually got a few unique skins “on the way”.

Flabbergasting how you invest that much time and energy and probably research into something without coming across the “stat thing” – really?

I came to the forum to write how I felt about something that took me a great time to make, I typed fast and have never made a post before. I didn’t come here to get bashed by the grammar police, and to be told I shouldn’t be complaining about something you don’t have and you haven’t made. I think it’s kinda my right to be upset about something I took the time to make, and maybe didn’t quite understand everything about it. It’s a great deal of time. I just wish there was something on Anet’s site better explaining weapons and builds instead of relying on wiki ect. Also I would of preferred to send Anet a private msg about how I feel instead of being bashed on my post. This is the exact reason I never felt comfortable posting here. :/

1) The ability to swap stats on the fly.

2) The skin, mileage may vary with this though.

3) It will always have the highest stat, meaning if they ever (however unlikely) add a tier above ascended, legendaries will automatically start using those stats.

Personally I don’t think those are compelling enough reasons for me to ever bother making a legendary, so I’m spared the anguish. Happy for people who did get their legendaries and enjoy it though.
