Q:
Karma Items
it’s only an exploit if you benefit.
believe me these items wont benefit you, so its not an exploit.
At this point, it’s anyone’s guess what Anet considers an exploit.
One would think it’s not given how badly the return is and depends completely on RNG to even get anything worth while. But you know how anet is with the word exploit..
The only ones really worth forging are the temple exotics and that’ll cost you 168000 karma for a set of 4 to forge. While once in a while I’ll grab one to forge if I have 3 lower than 80 exotics from map completion (if the rune isn’t worth salvaging, I usually end up forging them for a chance at something better)

The original pricing for some weapons involved a typo, reducing the karma costs by a factor of 1,000.1 Players turned those items into income by combining them in the Mystic Forge and either salvaging for ecto or selling them via the Trading Post. This was combined with farming certain dynamic events that triggered frequently. Players taking advantage of this hundreds of times were banned; those taking advantage of it dozens of times were suspended. Those who were banned were allowed to regain their account by apologizing and promising to delete their wealth acquired through this method.2 Some who tried to launder items or coin through others were re-banned.
that post came from the wiki and is the only bannable karma thing i can find and it was because a typo not because ppl were doing it but ppl were getting items for nearly 0 karma..ive been looking for this myself for quite sometime i mean what else am i supposed to do with so much karma anyways lol

If it actually takes effort and building up resources then it’s likely not an exploit. If you go and find a karma vendor that is selling rares for 1 karma and buy 10000000 of them to cycle through the mystic forge, that’s an exploit.
Exploits are obvious, though they tend to become commonly used when they aren’t addressed quickly. As an example of that, fighting the last boss of path 1 in AC on the stairs is an exploit and almost everyone does it but it’s been that way since the game was released. Also, since the profit from it is very low they aren’t going to ban people for that kind of exploit. But if you’re exploiting and making 20g/hour off of that exploit, expect to see some kind of ban.
