Q:

ANET With this new reward system you are bringing in I am getting the impression it is another set of tokens based on achievement “crowns”. Personally I think there are so many different token reward types that karma is becoming of little value.

I and many people I know build up a lot of karma as we adventure and find nothing much worthwhile really during leveling to spend it on. At the endgame the only sets of exotic armour that can be bought are stuck with the same stat configurations that are not the most optimal in my opinion. For instance you can’t get any piece of exotic armour with Berserker stats from Karma.

The big question Anet is will karma become worth focusing on collecting seeing as it is the basic reward system for dynamic events, along with the small cash reward and experience, noting that DEs are supposed to be at the heart of Guild Wars 2. Or should we not be motivated by these when there are so many other token types for various dungeons, WvW, Fractals and now achievements?

May I suggest that if no better rewards are introduced you could introduce a conversion system for karma to other tokens so people don’t need to do every dungeon path or as many fractals.

I use forums to give my opinions but I mostly avoid discussing over
them due to those less than polite individuals out there and their offensive attitude.

Well I can’t speak for you, but I leveled up to 80 using nothing but gear I bought with karma. I also buy all my salvage kits and harvesting items with karma. You also need over a million karma if you want to try for a legendary weapon. Also you can use karma to make money by forging green karma weapons in the MF and getting a bunch of yellow weapons that you can sell/salvage/MF.

I’ve earned over a million karma and i’ve spent every last drop of it, karma is the most useful thing in the game.

Currently leveling my first Character atm, Think I am going to do the same as ZudetGambeous. I have stocked up 100,000 Karma from just doing dailies and hearts, With the new tokens might aswell spend them getting gear as I level and Mats.

OR maybe people MIGHT go back to Orr and I could use them there

I’ve been waiting for the Temple of Balthazar to be available again for one character. I forgot harvesting kits could be bought with karma and salvage kits though i don’t know what level of salvage kits. If you had over a million karma Zudet you have to have played a LOT. LoL. I thought the MF only had a very rare chance of giving you something above the value of what you put in, most likely greens will get you a green I thought and its all just random is it not and it all seems a bit convoluted to me. Crafting legendary weapons is not appealing to me. Too convoluted and grindy as well.

Maybe I will just use it to buy the basic gear as i level. I never found that stuff much appealing either. To me those things you mentioned don’t make karma appealing Zudet.

I would second the option for token exchange. I would love to see an exchange merchant where you could spend Karma for tokens, swap tokens of one type for another type or even cash tokens in for Karma.

I run dungeons 2 nights a week with my guild and greatly enjoy doing so. I have no intention of getting the armor from some of the dungeons I run so build up stacks of tokens I’m likely never to use as it stands, yet I am short on tokens for the full set that I want to purchase.

I think the biggest problem are the WvW players. They have a lot of Karma stock piled. I know some people with more than 2 million. I have over 1.4 million.

I don’t see the problem ?

WvWvW players could then cash some of that Karma in for a dungeon set they like the look of without having to actually run that dungeon. After level 80 it’s all cosmetics anyway, you already have the stats your looking for. Same for ascended gear, this would open it up to the W3 players without forcing them into endless runs of Fractals, they could earn their pieces solely through W3.

There are a lot of weapon and armor skins available through karma. Once I discovered that I like some of the cultural weapons , and since I have several cultures among my alts, all of a sudden I’ve found the need for a lot of karma at 63k a pop. Just make sure you take a look at all the stuff available through karma before you spend it leveling.

Game definitely needs more ways to use karma.

Of course getting a legendary takes a million or so, so that’s a use.

But once you have a legendary, unless you’re going to make another one and need the karma again, the game’s already running short on things to spend karma on. There’s some skins, really not many though, and before long you’ll have whatever skins you want if any. Harvest kits are nice and all but not really a big deal.

Let me put it this way, I’m just banking all my karma jugs because I don’t want to use them and hit the karma cap.

There are plenty of things to spend karma on in the game.

I think they just need a greater variety of skins, regardless of rarity.

Here’s what people thought of GW1 when it first came out: http://tinyurl.com/bntcvyc
“A release is 7 days or less away or has just happened within the last 7 days…
These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”

Most of the cultural weapon skins are available as drops in many zones, makes them a bit of a massive ripoff.

What makes me laugh is that by doing the personal story, I’ve ended up with the human cultural tier 3 skins for sword, staff and scepter. Sod spending 63,000 karma on bloody rares.
Oh yeah, and what’s up with that?
Orrian temple armor costs 42,000 a piece and is exoctic, yet tier 3 cultural weapons cost 63,000 karma each and are rare.
Muuuuuurrrrrrrr.

Arenanets armor skins artists must be pretty busy doing something else because I honestly was expecting more variety in weapon/armor skins and styles.

For a game that sold itself on horizontal progression I find it quite amusing that there is such a lack of variety.

Some are. My Guardian has a staff picked up in the personal story, if I recall correctly, that is identical to the human T3 which costs 63k. Be careful around this, especially humans (I don’t buy any of those), but many are unique. Caveat Emptor.
