Kessex Hills Floating Castle
This castle was around even in Beta, but so far no events or anything connected with it.
Ah ok I guess i just never looked at it. The hype of the new content got me.
How anyone would be comfortable living in the same area as that is beyond me..
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wizard%27s_Tower
It was in Guild Wars too. It’s a bit obscure in Gw2, but yeah, it’s been there forever.
Well, Leokins, the villagers underneath that castle do seem a little… off. It definitely sounds like something shady is going on.
screams future content, yes its been there since day one, i remember wondering….
the townspeople are also weird, like they are hiding something and also afraid, if you talk to them u know something shady is going on, im guessing a future questline for a future content update at some point
when i first explored there i wished so hard that i’d be able to get to that castle somehow
Definitely one of my “wow” moments in this game.
The Tengu wall on that map was very cool too though.
still waiting for a chance to visit it. i remember in BWE1 i tried to swim to it… my first invisible barrier ;_;
It’s a mysterious place. It’s been around since GW1, with the White Mantle & a cult of necromancers trying to break into it. The villagers nearby now talk about how a mage there has basically enslaved elementals to do work for them, but that they have a sense the elementals are angry & resentful.
I believe that tower was also in Kessex Hills of GW1. It was my favorite scene that’s how I remember =b
Legendary Ranger, Simon
Well that’s cool. I never saw it because I was too busy having my camera angled downward…
Just to add more suspension. If you visit one of the houses in the little village there is a one with on the top floor with several asura style machines. No NPC around at all.
And there is a big door to the east that is closed in the same village….
And the “misplaced” waypoint…
If something is screaming, “future content update” then it is the south east of Kessex Hills =)
There is an Asuran story mission that occurs there. You have to bust through a house with a ‘secret’ inquest base and rescue the professor. Disappointingly, nothing related to the floating castle though.
Which asura mission if may ask?
The castle is a perfect example of content they want to hold on too but have never gotten around to using it, they even made sure they wrote in how someone or something moved the castle from it’s previous location which is now the Dominion of Winds, further north.
looks a bit different than in GW1

@ Plunder, it is a Asuran main quest line, a professor is going to reveal that the dragons eat magic and then he is “killed” etc etc no want to spoil it.

i think you mean suspense… unless it’s a clever pun :P
I think I know what it is,, World of Warcraft had something called GM Island where all the GMs would hang out and stuff, I could bet you just about anything that is what it is,, Its a GM floating Island, with stuff in it that only a GM should have,, If a player got in there omg,, But yeah that is what I think it is
Nah, as pointed out before it is in fact the Wizard’s Tower. Link here:

Funnily enough it was also my first ‘’omg I want to go there’’ moment back when I joined For some juicy content about it though check out this video by WoodenPotatoes. Oldie but goodie.
I HIGHLY doubt that it’s a GM island…. But holy kitten you might be on to something here.
It could eventually become something like Havoc’s Heir & Noble’s Folly (Wiki those if curious).
But then again, the thread mentioning this place is 4 years old (about as old as the game itself, really.)

That would make sense. But I really hope it’s not.

truth, it is the island of misfit GMs. big difference
It is not a GM island.
To be fair that is exactly what you’d say if it was a secret GM island.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”

Proof that it is a secret GM island.
It’s been pointed out. The castle has been around since GW1. I hope A-Net addresses this mystery in the near future.

People have been hoping this since 2005 when it appeared in GW1. Closest we got was killing a bunch of cultists on the cliff near the castle as it floated menacingly out of reach.

ANet needs to open up the castle for us to investigate the claim that it’s not a secret GM hangout. They could be spying on us with telescopes and binoculars and taking pictures through the microwaves!
(Obligatory rabble rabble)
ANet may give it to you.
Please just don’t make it a raid. Having story content I’ll likely never see is already frustrating enough. Don’t end up making something that people have been waiting for twelve years to see be only available to a few.
It could be a pretty cool Dungeon kind of dark.
Reminds me of Tempest Keep in WoW. There were several instances 2-3 dungeons and a raid what I remember (Kael’thas boss).
As for Anet, I really hope there is something soon. But it would be very anet’ish if they never do anything with it. Why do cool things if you don’t want to :-D
‘would of been’ —> wrong
Hmm, not quite the same, but could be fun to see something similar to the old toxic tower inside that, semi-openworld dungeon/group content.
“Understanding is a three edged sword: your side, their side, and the truth.”
“The objective is to win. The goal is to have fun.”
The island is future content.
Legendary armor has wings but the mastery track and insights are not yet available.

Hey hey…lets not ruin it for Gaile…we all know what the first rule of “Secret GM Island” is…:)
Its ok…we get it now…;)
I can because I want to
I want to because you said I couldn’t
I still think ANet missed a golden April Fool’s opportunity – Temporarily add a series of updrafts leading toward the castle that were JUST out of reach…

Truth is, its just yet 4 years of unused potential for something interesting to make to fill up a lore gap with maybe something meaningful.
Truth is, its 4 years of an ignored area in Tyria, that could have been made exploreable already a long time ago.
Truth is, we haven#t seen in the last 4 years just a single sign about it, that Anet even cares for this floating island to turn it into some meaningful content, instead of letting it be forever an unexplorable part of Tyria, which we can just see from afar, but will be never able to reach and see what kind of mysteries are to be eventually found there.

You evil kitten! I love it.
I honestly hope at some point we get to see whats up with that Floating Castle and its current town… Those citizens give me an a weird vibe that something is happening behind the scenes… (very good how the GW2 Team set it up)

Weird vibe?
Sort of like……a sensation that a bunch of GMs are looking down at you from above?
ANet may give it to you.
