"Key" chains
It’s been talked about for a long time. Still nothing….

Last official word on the issue (via Mike O’Brien from the recent AMA) is that the Devs aren’t working on such a feature, nor have plans to in the immediate future.
In the future, should you so desire, there is a Sticky above that includes directions on how to search the forums.
Good luck.
“keyring” is the word you are seeking and, yes, it would be a truly great thing that would sell like hotcakes if they put it in the gem shop.
Everything sells like hotcakes in the gem store, why would the devs put effort into a complex keyring when they can just sell a hat or a dagger for many times the return on the investment..
Also it shouldn’t be a gem shop item, it’s such a huge QoL issue it should be in-game for everyone.
pve, raid, pvp, fractal, dungeon, world clearing, legendary questing.. Zapped!
For now you can use third party tools that looks up your characters’ inventories and combine them as a virtual bank. You’ll need to have an API key to use it.
Keys as an account-wide currency rather than items that take up space, along with a toy wardrobe, would make for a great QoL patch.
I don’t think they would invest the time into a ‘key chain’ (i would happily buy one too) – I imagine from Anet’s POV if you want all the keys on you all the time then you should upgrade your bags and/or buy more bag slots OR keep them in your bank and use an instant bank access whenever you need to draw a few out. Given that more bag slots, bank slots and the bank access items all cost gems its more gem sales for them. I think the simplest fix would be if they could get shoved in the wallet …….. remember when we had to carry around all our dungeon tokens too!
I don’t think they need to make a new feature of key-chains or key rings, even though it’d be handy to have. I think it’d be far easier for ArenaNet to make them into ‘currencies’ so they can be stored in the wallet like other things.

I’d argue that unlimited mining tools are even bigger QoL items and they aren’t in-game for everyone.

If Anet was using that logic they’d never have made the shared inventory slots, or the storage expander, or custom mail carriers, or any of the other things in the gem store that aren’t purely cosmetic.
Since they have made all those things I think it’s pretty clear they’re not purely focusing on items that require the least time to produce (even if those do have a greater return on investment) and we shouldn’t assume they’d be unwilling to make other more complicated items in future.
On that note does anyone know if Anet have said why they’re not planning to work on this? If it’s simply that they have too many other things to do then it may be considered in future (maybe after the next expansion?), whereas if they’ve explained that they don’t think it’d be right for the game it’s a lot less likely to ever happen.

All MO said was they already have a full plate. They likely have scheduled at least 6-12 months in advance.
RIP City of Heroes
They don’t even need a “key ring”… they can simply turn keys and similar bag-clutter items into a currency. They did it easily enough with Proof of Heroics recently.
I was looking for a place to suggest a “Key” chain, where all the keys gathered in various places via regular play fractals dungeons etc… such as nightmare keys aether keys machetes chak acids anything that opens chests etc…. be collected much like the various currencies in game are.. in a separate place from inventory bags slots… and making this available account wide just as currencies are now. it would free up bag slots ( especially for those of us using shared slots for our characters to all use the gathered keys )… Anyhow it was suggested I posted here in forums to get other peoples opinions on this idea.
I think this would greatly improve the shared slot use as well for other items like magic brooms and carpets where all our characters could have access to those as well… (perhaps even possibly making rides like that available in a shared account wide capacity without extra slots used….) anyhow pipe in your ideas on this and maybe we can get ANET to make such changes for the keys at least :-)
Its been asked for, ANet has said in a AMA on reditt that one is not on the cards for the time being.

With the addition of every new area including the expansion, the silver wastes, the dry top, and new chests we have been collecting many different types of keys to open different types of chests and depending what character you play that day those characters have different amounts of keys on each of them.
One day you will be on one character your group needs you to play and you knew you had 73 crow bars but when you go up to a airship box u cant open it and you say “Crap i know i have lots of these which character are they on again?” or you have made one tri-key and have 14 characters and 14 bank tabs. thats alot of slots to look through to find this one key to open the chest in lions arch.
All these keys are account bound already and transferable already why not make an Account Key Ring just like how we have the Account wide Wallet on the bottom of the Inventory Menu. the keys list from key parts to full keys to event keys to lock picks to the new expansion keys(pact crowbars, vials of chak acid, machetes, exalted keys) then there’s the bandit skeleton keys, Keys of greater Nightmares and the essence of nightmares and Tarnished keys in the Silverwastes and the zephyrite lockpick in Drytop. we have the Rolans key fragments and the rolans keys, skrit key fragments and the 2 part keys for wvw. The matrix cube key, the antherkey pieces, the completed antherkey, black lion chest keys, the list keeps going and my bags keep getting fuller of just the different amounts of keys i have to carry.
I would greatly appreciate the adaption of including the key ring or something of its likeness in the future so we can free up the space in our bags for the insane amount of drops that auto loot into my bags. plus the time saver of not having to go through every character to find the keys I’m looking for.
Thanks for taking the time to consider this request.
i agree. apart from saving my bag space, this is much convenience so you dont have to cycle thru 20 toons to find out where you stashed them in.
if i wasnt a wvw-er i would take out all my siege and put in all the keys and acids and crowbars in my shared inventory slots.
Yep, it’s been suggested several times recently. The simplest and best solution someone suggested is to designate all those keys as currency so they go into the account-wide wallet that we already have. Sorted!
However, the official word seems to be that there are no plans to changes that stuff.
You might want to consider one of the many Apps available to facilitate your character/bank-inventory searches.
Good luck.
I have two bank tabs full of keys, so when I enter an area I take the correct keys out, and when I leave I put them back into the bank.
I also used to have two bank tabs full of map currencies, so I’m glad that at least the currencies no longer use up so much space.
We’re getting more and more topics like this now. I can’t understand why ArenaNet can’t turn certain keys into a map currency so they go straight to the wallet.
Gotta clutter up them bags to encourage people to spend $$ buying more bag slots!
Seriously, Anet… enough with the clutter-wars – turn key-type items into currency like you recently did with the proof of heroics.
I can’t understand why ArenaNet can’t turn certain keys into a map currency so they go straight to the wallet.
It would hurt their sale of shared inventory slots. Seriously, I have at least 8 characters that do HoT map metas, and finally bought five more slots to hold keys.

I thought that somewhere they said there were technical limitations that was stopping them from implementing this.

Would it though? There are plenty of other things to occupy those slots.. salvage devices, repair canisters, teleport to friend, home stone, converters, unlimited harvesting tools, consumables, etc.

Exactly my thoughts – though I understand different players use the account-bound slots for different things – mine are used for the three permanent gathering tools, Royal Terrace pass, Mystic Salvage Kits and I use one to link my multiple [Gifts of Exploration] – just to show off from time to time!
