Okay,so I was thinking about going for a new levelling method which involves a kitten load of boosters.
So one of these boosters,“the killstreak booster” which gives you 100% xp from kills if you get a kill within 30 sec, are kind of the main ingredient in this way of levelling.
Now,I stocked up on boosters, guild,xp booster, food, slayer potion and of course the killstreak booster.
But what I didn’t think about at that time was the Diminishing Returns. After 15 freakin’ minutes it kicked in. 15 minutes.
Before this DR effect kicked in I could gladly watch the xp rolling in with the added bonuses.
After the effect kicked in I could gladly see less than half of what I used to get rolling in.
Why,Anet, why do you have a killstreak booster if you can’t effectively use it for more than 15 kittening minutes? Why don’t you just remove it? There’s no place for that kind of booster in a game with Diminishing Returns? Perhaps even the xp boosters.
Why do I want to level up this way you ask, instead of going for the infamous Queensdale “Choo Choo”,or for regular exploring, crafting, dungeons, spvp and wvw?
Simply because after over 1 year of playing the game I wanted to try something new.
I guess a bit of nostalgia was also a major factor in choosing to level up this way.
So,why?
So… This happens because when you use the kill streak boost you generally follow a path of spawning monsters. After a while you don’t get decent experience because you don’t get that extra exploration bonus you get from killing mobs that haven’t been killed in a long time. My advice: go to lesser populated maps, follow a path all around, kill everything you see (and you should be able to 1 every 30 seconds). You’ll get far more exploration bonuses for killing the yellow creatures and killing all reds in a lesser populated map than running around the same moa path in Queensdale, say.
I’m pretty sure Diminishing Returns only affects loot from enemies, not XP.
Like Lilith said I suspect what you were doing was following a path around a map – the first time you got the standard XP plus a bonus for killing enemies that hadn’t been killed in a while and then the second (and 3rd, 4th etc.) times you only got the standard XP.
Your best bet is to aim for less populated maps (like Metrica Province, Brisban, most of Ascalon…) and make sure you’re making your way around the whole map and killing everything, especially yellow enemies, which are often overlooked because they’re not aggressive and don’t give decent loot. Which means they stay alive longer than build up a bigger XP bonus.
So how long does it take for the bonus to re-apply to the mobs? :O
I honestly don’t know the answer to that question. It may be an hour, it may be more. That’s why it’s best to move to another map or kill different creatures.
Also, just in case you did not know, you can upgrade experience boosters in the forge to make them give you 100% experience for 2 hours, and it stacks with the normal one. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Improved_Experience_Booster
Reason I added this was cause I didn’t know it until recently
Ahh okay, maybe it’s better to just stick with the old trust levelling methods…and yeah,I knew that But thanks for sharing anyways, and thanks for the replies, both of you
Plus 1 for using Doge in your OP. Very awesome. Such win.
On a side note, I have about 20 kill streak boosters in my bank that will simply be deleted eventually. Talk about useless. Never used one. Never will.

I leveled my guardian with them… I hardly find them useless. Made things much quicker, and made it a bit more fun (oh god gotta find a creature to kill where is it where is it??)
What exactly were you killing?
If you were killing Orr mobs in straits, then obviously you would be hit with DR shortly.
But if you focused on killing mobs in other diverse areas, this wouldn’t be an issue.
Here is what I would do to best utilize killstreak:
Do not stick to one area on the map. Go explore the entire map by making a circle route. This way you are less exposed to killing the same mob type (and hence DR).
If you come across an event that spawns mobs frequently that you can kill easily, hop on that as well.
Keep in mind that static mobs (mobs not from events) have rested exp, and so you get extra bonus for killing those.

Well that’s a shame, because you could have used from during the Escape from LA event.
Pop a killstreak booster during an aetherblade miasma event on north WP/Bank – you get a full level in under 10 minutes.

I regret not doing that. I honestly forgot that killstreak boosters were even a thing until I saw this thread just now.
I did all right, leveling-wise, but now I’m kicking myself for the missed opportunity.
The part that annoyed me about the killstreak boosters (and hence why they are collecting dust in my bank instead of being used) is that they basically force you to avoid working on map completion while you are leveling and to instead focus on just killing things.

Thankfully, pavillion will be coming back in one form or another, making it a perfect opportunity to pop both a killstreak and MF booster. Just hope you don’t die.

I was hitting it down in Lornar’s Pass, most south west waypoint. Down in that pirate village, going from the WP up till’ almost between the two pirate villages then WP’ing back again Of course it didn’t hit me at that time that the DR would come as swift and silent as a ninja.
But I didn’t know about the rested mob bonus O___O
So doing this would actually take a bit of planning, locating suitable areas where you could do some circles or spin some eight’s (lol) in a map with not that far of a gap between the mobs. And of course, you would need slayer potions for every mob you’ll come across :P
