I have had a strange ride with this profession. Started very slow and mildly frustrating. Not as weak as engineer, but noticeably weaker than guardian/ranger. Then in the 30s it picked up and came into its own. Now I am in the 60s and I don’t even want to quest anymore, each fight is like a chore.

What bugs me is, it doesn’t feel like you can ever really burst. Perhaps I am doing it wrong but it feels very sluggish and (understandably) the melee options are meh.

Is it me or just necro?

Just Necro

I would direct you to the Necromancer sub-forum, but there is no need to drag more people into our sad sad little world.

Roll a thief or warrior or guardian, they seem to be the bees knees and have things like traits that support their various builds.

Oh yeah! That is correct! Those classes have multiple viable different builds! So you can play how you want, and not be pigeon-holed into certain sub-standard builds simply because there is no “good” option!

That is a shame, because necro is a very stylish profession, but the overall feel of the gameplay is underwhelming.

I am interested in thief, but also concerned because I am a little on the slow/casual side and wondering if I can keep up the pace of an involved, twitch, finesse class. One thing I did grow accustomed to is having a spare life bar when things go sour.

To get to 80 its not too hard. To be competitive/dungeon ready at 80 its another thing.

I used a build focused on wells and leveled pretty fast, specially in the big chains since a well positioned well tags lots of mobs. When soloing I went out of my way to lure 3-5 mobs then apply wells and killed them all at the same time, move to the next area.

One on one, yeah its a chore.

Guardians seemed to be really good for casual play, leveling stays consistent… warriors leveling plateaus a bit after 60 (in my experience/opinion). My thief is still level 15 but I kinda died a lot… of course not much experience with the class so can’t really tell how it will turn out.

Try heavy armored its a bit refreshing not worrying about dodging that much.

Cancer is also a Zodiac sign.

I’d suggest a Warior. I only played one briefly (I leveled a bunch of profs to 15-ish to try ‘em out), but it was very fast paced and fun, with so many fun weapon choices! The only reason I chose Necro instead was because I couldn’t stand the heavy armor looks on my cute little Sylvari. ^^;

I have heard that Necros can get draggy in later levels, but I love the survivability too much so far to give mine up.

Wish I could comment on thief, but after making an Elementalist as my first character, I’m not touching another profession that squishy in this game for awhile. If ever. :P

Best of luck to you!

If you want another cloth class both the Ele and the Mesmer are fun so go with whatever style you prefer. My main is an 80 Ele and I love it. It takes a bit more to learn than other classes but once you know the ins and outs it’s quite fun and versatile, and we do have more than one viable build (although not as many as other classes). If you want another armor class, I’d say both Thief and Ranger are viable but both IMO need to be more interesting because they’re fun but I get bored with them, hence why they’re only alts lol. Heavy armor definitely go Guardian, it’s actually pretty fun.
