It’s used to censor curse words and other “vulgar” terms that Anet deems offensive.

It happens automatically. I don’t think many people use it. The forum inserts it.

it also inserts it when words are separated by a space. Kitten completely confuses the sentence

Examples
- the word for where weapons are kept and the name of a famous English Premier league soccer team -> kitten nal
- “pen” and “is”. The kitten mightier than the sword.

These days people just use it as part of the joke. Instead of censoring a swear word with kitten, people just type kitten instead.

Actually I’ve just started typing kitten to save the poor censorship bot from working too hard.

I have to admit sometimes when I want to add emphasis to a sentence but can’t think of the right word I just type ‘kitten’ and let people insert their own swear word.

E.g. “that is so kitten annoying!”

Danielle Aurorel, Dear Dragon We Got Your Cookies [Nom], Desolation (EU).

“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”

You canĀ use a different type of space sign to avoid censoring non-offensive words or word parts.

Some people litter their text with swear words as they become more and more angry. By replacing those swear words with “kitten” much of that anger is dissipated. One of the first times I noticed this, and still one of my favorites, is “Bullkitten”.

Anets are completely anal about saying kitten and kitten on the forum so it ends up being kitten, which btw is kittened up who the kitten even says kitten? Its a kittening kittened insult to kittens everywhere.

By the way .. as somebody who is no native english speaking person i always think
that kitten has something to do with cats .. maybe because of names like Kitty Cat or
KitKat .. or whatever.

Is it somehow related to cats .. or is it just me ?

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

‘Kitten’ is the English word for a young cat, just as ‘puppy’ is the English word for a young dog.

What about “cheese build” or chessy build, what does it mean?

In that term, “cheese” refers to something that’s particularly easy and/or unfair. It implies that the build doesn’t require skill, that it abuses game mechanics somehow.

I don’t know for sure, Fire Bullet, but “cheesy” is slang for something that is .. ok, this is also slang … corny or lame. Of poor quality, slapped together. A stupid way to achieve something. The connotations are of something one cannot be proud of. Hmm — maybe it’s like “sure, we won the tournament, but only because the better team’s bus broke down. Sure feels like a cheesy win.”

Me too, haha. It’s going to change my words anyway, might as well do it myself.

Or words to that effect.

I like it, actually.

Takes the bite out of swearing; makes it have the exact opposite effect than intended. More forums could stand to use the trick.
