1st world GW2 problems…
lol, lol, lol
I guess many people here live in the first world and play GW2. So it is a problem for them. How does your funny line here invalidate anything?
And yes, it is an occasional disruption – which does not serve any purpose and displays a tremendous lack of player skill. It does not matter whether fights are still easy, it is just plain stupid to use skills that make the team less efficient. But I guess buttonmashing is as far as it gets for the majority here :P
For every guardian using pull, there is a necro waiting for that moment to press 5 on their staff and then watch the mobs flee in terror.
Not being to land your damage really sounds like a personal problem. Guess melee damage and skills with long cast times are not the best for open world.

This problem doesn’t only exist in open world, nor does it only affect melee players. Eles using ice storm/lava font, rangers using barrage and even guardians using smite/symbols can be hindered by badly timed knockbacks, to give but a few examples.
This problem is frequent in fractals and dungeons as well. I’ve seen entire mobs pulled out of an ice storm by a mesmer or guardian. I’ve seen bosses get hit out of melee range by knockbacks while other characters are stacking on them to maximise dps during a time warp. Do you know how frustrating it is to be stacking next to a seal on Cliffside fractal only to have the mobs you’re meant to be killing with the hammer in melee range, be feared/knocked back out of yours and your allies’ range? It’s very counter productive.
It also affects fast casting skills just as much as it affects slow casting or channeled skills. Take the elementalist fire grab skill for example. It casts very fast but has a very narrow cone shaped area of effect. Suffice to say, it can miss easily if another player just spams knockbacks and hits enemies out of your range. In those cases the elementalist has to suffer a 45 second cooldown on a high damage skill with no pay-off just because of other players being inconsiderate.
I don’t see why you’d want to put the onus on players affected by the knockbacks and not on the players who are performing the knockbacks without thinking.

With all the ranger hate here I feel an urge to bow up and take double bears to dungeons!
Yesterday I was doing an open PvE event against a veteran enemy with a high reflect upkeep. I was constantly getting knocked back and was taking a heavy damage. I wondered what’s going when I struggle on a level 17 area.
Then I look back and see 2 longbow rangers.

one of my crowning achievements was to point-blank-shot an elementalist off the edge of eotm in the midst of a zergscrum

Or, maybe, players like you are the reason all the depressed rangers keep using LB #4 in PvE. No need to learn manners or make friends if everybody is going to be a jerk to you…

Tried that for 2 years, didn’t work. Tried this for 1 week, worked perfectly.

Eh, more power to you I guess. I can’t act that way to people without feeling like a horrible person. Not even in a game.
Whenever I play ranger, I use LB 4 only, when I’m low-health, heal on CD, and the enemy is coming straight at me and wants to eat my face, or in SW Vinewrath, when the enfeeblers want to eat the siege carriers. Else I go into YOLO-mode and switch to GS or S/A.
There was one guy playing a warrior in map chat yesterday that was being crude and inappropriate and being hateful to any toon he saw that was a ranger. So I watched this one ranger follow him around in SW and KB’d every thing he was fighting. He finally got so mad that he left the map. I wasn’t the only one glad to see him gone!
That’s the spirit! The only solution for griefing is more griefing.
Now he knows how wrong he was to think Rangers are a bunch of jerks.
1. It wasn’t me that was doing it.
2. Even some of the other KB haters were telling him and/or her to stop with what he was saying and asking him to stop and he just got worse.
3. I’m not saying it was right of that guy to do the griefing, but he had it coming and no one in chat was sorry to see him go.
4. The guy doing the griefing on this jerk was being applauded by others in chat (even the KB haters) because that guy was so awful.
Again, I am not saying that was the right way to handle this guy, but I don’t know that anything else or anything less would have gotten this guy to stop his mouth from pouring out garbage.
Fun fact: I used to accidentally pull the mobs OUT of my wife’s AOE barrage with that same move on my guardian.
Kitten happens.

you just want to bunch them up so you can staff 11111111 them to death and get the most profit of anyone else with the minimum effort, that’s why I am using knockback. The less damage you and your engineer flame throwing friends do, the more likely it will be that I get on the damage table high enough to qualify for a loot drop.
when I think you are actually working for a reward, I will stop sabotaging your efforts.
Need to put knockbacks on 5min cooldowns, it’s the only way people will learn not to just spam it when it’s off cooldown.
Seriously, there’s a well under the enemy, doesn’t mean to hit them out of it, that’s when you stick an immobilize on them….
There’s a time and place for cc skills, learn to use them already.

I love topics like these.
Knockback is such a minor issue in this game compared to some others, slightly extending the length of a fight at worst most of the time.
I can only imagine how you all would have reacted in CoH, where some powersets could blow entire packs of enemies where they pleased.
When I’m trying to remove stacks to ice bow freeze something, nobody will use cc. I watch the stacks- so I cycle through my skills to remove them. As soon as I get 0 stacks and take ice bow out… Bam, someone decides now is the time! Back to 5 stacks. Apparently a knocked back enemy, knocked out of everyone’s aoe and range, is far better for the group than one that can’t move or use skills.
Indeed. All Rangers should fight with one hand tied behind their backs and take their medium level armor right up where close where their weapons are less effective. Heaven forbid they should fight in the way their skills force them. And those annoying pets they are forced to drag around just get in the way. They are almost as annoying as those silly cosmetic wings some people insist on wearing that constantly block everyone’s view. Perhaps Anet should consider removing the Ranger profession from the game because it annoys the glass tanks and AoE bombers who bring a nuke to a knife fight.
Which weapons (plural) are less effective up close? Unless I am mistaken it is only longbow (singular).
It isnt the ranger profession that necessarily annoys others its bad ranger players. How would you feel if another class, warrior for example, had a skill, that many players spammed, which granted mobs temporary immunity to ranged attacks?
As a ranger main myself I think it is important that we not actively work to reduce the effectiveness of the group as a whole if we want to find greater acceptance in non solo play.

I don’t see why you are all having so many issues with this. Ya I have knocked an enemy out of someone’s attacks before and had it happen to me, usually by my own pet, but what I have the most problems with is my target moving out of my attacks, more so in sPvP than PvE and WvW, but it happens there too.

If it’s open world zerg event stuff, I’m going to use all the skills I have. Tagging is hard enough for things like temple capture events (looking at you, Grenth.) If a pack shows up and the only skill I have on hand is necro staff 5, I’m going to smack that puppy right on them. Don’t expect order in the middle of chaos.

I think the better solution for you would be to actually start doing damage (because if you can’t outdps a staff guardian while using lb, then something is very wrong).
