So~ has anyone actually noticed anything change between patches? I mean, I don’t expect to log on with the next update and find a gleaming city of Tar Valon, but each update should have something! A dismantled fragment of the drill, or at least scaffolding around one to show that it is indeed in progress, a single building repaired or more evidence of repair in work than a simple human with a hammer mucking about. I know there have been changes, but they are so minute they have passed me by. Aside from asking Anet to pick up the pace so that the progress appears more feasible, can anyone form a list of what has been altered with each update?

Some guy on reddit did a photo album of stuff that’s been changing all along. It’s very gradual, but stuff is definitely changing.

Can you link that?

The rebuild phase should be done between Halloween & Winterdays.
I do hope they won’t stick to the old design mutch but a nice Venice style instead.

I just hope it’s rebuilt before end of season 2, but i doubt it will be. I can’t stand the new L.A., especially when the only guild bank requires running from a far waypoint because the other one is contested.

I’d like to see some bigger progress seen, thats easily recognizable by for example removing some of those bigger wreck parts from L.A, so that you actually really see, that somethign is changing in L.A and that you see, that alot more worker npcs are in constant movement in the town doing something about all the wreck parts gettign rid of smaller parters they are able to carry away to a dumping spot where all the parts get collected for some asuras that want to analyze the wreck parts or so …

L.A is for me currently too lifeless to let us see some really progression in making L.A. back how it was (or even naturally better and more beautiful how it was before would be optimal, a LA. that looks in the end again exactly the same like before the attack would be lame and uncreative, not after such a massive assault that destroyed the whole town and enviroment around the town)

Personally I expect the bigger rebuild to happen together with bonded to it living story patches to include L.A’s rebuilding also into the living story, just like its destroy.

seeing how arena net knows their agenda “a year in advance” i’m hoping they have something lore inspired and not just easter egg changes that a large number of players are simply going to overlook..

You could have lore drop from the sky in a heavy crate marked lore that kills your character and large numbers of players will still ignore it, in the same way they skip every cut scene they come across. Some people don’t care about lore at all.

I’ve been many players stumble over something interesting, after which they pick themselves up and continue on as though nothing as happened.

The best lore to me is the stuff that’s not in your face.

What do others think of the idea of if they were to tie the rebuilding of LA with Dry Top style tier mechanics?

However, instead of the “defend from attacker/kill this enemy” style events found there, these events that are completed to progress the tiers (Stages of Reconstruction) are more along the lines of:

  • donations to “X”-o-Tron of currently oversupplied materials on the TP
  • other fetch style assistance events (like helping collect nails or wood for rebuilding)
  • some other non-violent style tasks as we know many players want something to do that doesn’t involve always killing stuff

But can also include killing stuff:

  • Wintersday Dolyak style escort events – skritt trying to steel the shiny metal and nails
    (poor skritt! -sadface-)

Progressing the tiers/Stages of Reconstruction would not be reset with a dust storm, but more like the Tower of Nightmares Antitoxin Injection meter where all servers/megaserver instances contribute to advancing it. When the meter hits a new ‘Stage of Reconstruction’, changes to LA become visible. This could be done by killing instances of LA-Stage1 and force-loading players in the zone into the updated LA-Stage2 version of the zone where changes from efforts are visually realized.

That is only one way of realizing the changes, which would also mean several versions of LA in stages of reconstruction would need to be in the client, which could bloat the size temporarily until old stage versions of the map are removed at a later point.

Just a concoction of incompletely thought-out ideas as they come to me while writing.

I think it would be interesting to have the players actually involved with the reconstruction and having it tied to a style of ‘single use festival’ release akin to Dragon Bash/Council Election.

Just an idea.

Go into the old bank area. There is a Charr guarding the now empty vault get too close and he’ll shove you back.

I like this, reminds me a bit on the rebuilding of the town Luin in the game Tales of Symphonia, where changes after donations also become first visible, when you revisited the town later by going out of the town and coming back basicalyl later, you that you could directly see, what has been done with al your donations (in this case of money only) – however, in GW2 it could be used to drain out massively materials out of the game with an ridiculous oversupply so that these materials could become for a certain time again alot more valuable on the market.

This is just a crazy idea that popped into my head:

For an event that included no carnage….

An area where a large number of players (I suppose it would have to be separated by race…so 5 areas) (or the dance party toy if that allows syncing, I’m not sure) needed to sync-dance together using * dance. I don’t know…some arbitrary number, like 25 or 30 or something to cause a flag to raise or something that would add another tick to the meter of needed completed events.

I just remember some large dance lines/groups of synced players in Guild Wars (One), and it was always kind of cool to watch. =)

I ran my butt off racing in Baby Dolyak form and carrying Charged Crystals in the name of aiding Lion’s Arch. I think the Zephyrites quietly split the money with Ellen Keil. I'm glad their airship crashed when they pulled up anchor and fled town.
