I left a group this evening that felt it fundamentally necessary to exploit a level 4 fractal boss, because two members of the group felt ‘we didn’t have enough DPS’ to kill the boss quickly, despite having me (an exotic geared S/D elementalist) and two thieves. We didn’t kill things in under two minutes.

What’s the flippin’ rush? These bosses aren’t stupidly difficult, who cares if it takes an extra minute or two to kill it the normal way? Exploiting is stupid and removes the challenge (what little there maybe). Sadly, this is becoming more and more common in pickup groups. I’d probably go with the people in my small guild, but…heh, I’m the only 80. Turned a bunch of friends onto the game so while they’re catching up, I go LFG. I honestly don’t mind PuG’s either, at least not in this game, until I run into this nonsense.

Thoughts?

I make fractals with my guild and 3 mates are lower than 20 level, levels like 20 , 25 , 17, etc.

Teach them and you will win…

I’m pretty sure you can go with lower levels since they will be boosted to 80.

It’s your loss if you leave the group, no one else’s.

I’m pretty sure the exact opposite is true. It’s definitely not my loss if I leave an exploiter group.

Diff’rent strokes for diff’rent folks.

If you play with strangers, it’s naive to hope they’ll share your value systems. For every person who’s frustrated that the PUG wants to go faster there’s another who’s frustrated it’s too slow.

It’s precisely this that makes me resist requests for auto-matching dungeon finders, cuz they never match you on the things that matter for having fun.

Yeah, I just remembered that. They’re behind me in Fractal progression but that doesn’t bother me. I’ll do lower level fractals for friends and guildmates no problem. That’s an option too.

As to reporting them…I guess that’s what I need to start doing.

I think it’s childish and chickish to report PUG party members for wanting to do it the fast way. Pre-launch, there were developer comments that pve exploits weren’t something they were concerned about when the content doesn’t get you anything special.

Report the bug/exploit and move along. Play with compatible people in the future.

An exploit isn’t doing something the ‘fast’ way. It’s cheating. I was in beta and I never remember the developers ever saying anything about not being concerned about exploits. Were that true, they wouldn’t want us reporting them and they’d just leave them in the game.

See, to me the ‘fast’ way is going through the content quickly. Skipping mobs, carefully moving through areas. I’m fine with that. Exploiting isn’t do that that. Exploiting is bugging out mobs in various ways, while making yourself unhittable. Getting these exploits to work can take as much time IMO as just doing it the normal way. I don’t see it as it being about speed, but being ‘easy.’

Don’t think it’s childish or ‘chickish’ to report cheaters.

People that leave in the middle of a dungeon is why this game badly needs a proper Dungeon Finder.

It’s definitely not their loss. Like I said. So go ahead and leave?

Ironically, the guy who formed the group left, which kicked us all out of the dungeon, before we could decide on a plan of action, leaving me with the two exploiters and one other guy. It was a pretty civil discussion as well. Just wouldn’t have joined the group at all, had I known that was the way people were going to play. Rather than reforming the group, I simply…you know, chose to leave.

I don’t feel at any loss whatsoever.

The point I’m making is: Speed dungeoning is fine. Exploiting isn’t.

The whole dungeon finder discussion a little off topic, but if you’ve never seen this tool before, it’s incredibly useful: GW2LFG. I leave this running on the workstation I have next to my gaming rig, if I’m having a real hard time finding a PuG for something. Hope that’s useful.
