Quidquid Latine Dictum Sit, Altum Videtur
LFG and JPs
Quidquid Latine Dictum Sit, Altum Videtur
I see people doing both on LFG all the time. Thought it was OK. Personally, I’d prefer if that didn’t happen, but oh well..
Dungeons are group content while jumping puzzles are not.
Dungeons can be solo’d. The option is given, but not always needed. It’s group oriented. But JP’s, and in fact the game in general, is an MMO. So, the whole game is group oriented.
And it’s still a path to a reward.

What do you mean by “not OK”, by the way? Can one report them or is it just frowned upon?
It’s still the design that matters. Dungeons are designed to be done in a group. JPs are designed to be done solo (as in, you do not need another player to play this bit of the game the way it was intended). I think there was an official statement on this a while back that explained this. LFG is for group content as defined by the game’s mechanics, so even if you ask for gold to invite somebody into your group, that’s tolerated so long as it’s for actual group content, whereas advertising something that’s not intended as group content (whether or not gold is involved is irrelevant) is not; mainly because it muddles the actual function of the LFG tool by allowing solo content in there as well.
Besides, if you want to sell JP ports, you can do so in mapchat just fine. Chances are more people will notice it there anyway.

What about selling access to ones home instance for gathering resources? Namely I just spotted this new type of selling in lfg just about an hour ago : " Sell access crafting nodes (17) for 20 silver…..->" . Does it belong to the dungeon sort of selling section or is it abusing the lfg due to selling access to “items”?
- Advertising an access portal is not allowed.
- Guild Recruitment is not allowed.
Both are unrelated to forming a group and therefore are not part of the intended purpose of the Looking for Group Tool.

I think that if I was new, and new to JPs, I’d be doing them in a group. Not solo, and preferably with a mes.
My point is more the “sales to reach end reward”. In a dungeon sale via LFG, you’re hardly doing group content. You’re going in, getting the achieve and end chest, and that is it. No group content. You’re not participating in group content, you’re buying a way to bypass it.

That doesn’t matter in this case. A dungeon is group content by design, and the LFG tool was made with that in mind. A JP is not designed as a group challenge, so there’s no place for it in the tool.

That’s not a particularly clear statement at all, though. Given that Gaile specifically quoted a post about selling access to a home instance, it’s unclear whether she was talking about only that (when saying ‘access portal’), or JP ports as well. It would be strange to lump them in together as they are somewhat different.
In any case, the general statement of policy “Our policy: Players may use the LFG Tool only for the formation of a group.” does not preclude using the LFG to form a group to do a JP together, from start to finish. As some posters in this thread seem to think. You can use the LFG tool for anything you like, as long as you are forming a group to do content together.
I never said a JP can’t be done as a group, I said the LFG tool was not designed with this bit of content in mind, which is why I would assume, from previous staff posts about the matter, using it like that is at the very least frowned upon.
I might be wrong, though, but from what I read, it would seem JPs are also part of the “don’t sell in LFG” content.

So, what, is LFG also not designed for just forming a group for no particular reason? I don’t see any way that can be enforced. You can just not say you’re selling it and let people give tips.
(Can we play Spot the Strawman? Because I found one…)
I also never said you can’t form a group for no reason, since there is a tab in LFG for open world content. What I did say was that I’ve seen previous discussions of this particular topic, and from the staff posts about the matter, I think LFG is not a tool to sell JP chests (I also happen to not like the dungeon sellers, but since “Dungeons” is a category in the tool, it’s not an inherently wrong way of using it).
The mechanics of dungeons and JPs are also different, in that only one group can finish the dungeon before the seller has to solo it again to sell it to the next group, but a JP seller has the option to sell the chest to an infinite amount of people after putting in the work of reaching the chest once, which defeats the purpose of forming a goal-oriented party (which is what LFG is for).
You’re free to disagree, but OP seemed to want opinions and/or official statements on the matter, so that’s what they got.

Realistically u can’t sell a JP chest because u cant control who uses your mesmer portal. Once down anyone can use it until the portal goes away.
I would love to see a dev ticket with someone complaining that a player jumped into his mesmer portal w/o paying.
Why is it ok to sell a spot to a Dungeon end but not to a JP End via LFG?
They’re both PvE essentially.I’m just curious.
Where did you see that it’s not ok to use LFG to sell access to a JP? (Mind you, I would be surprised if there were all that many people willing to pay, since people do it for free constantly, even responding favorably when people ‘beg’ in /map chat for a port.)
The only problem I have with it is clutter: typical LFG announcements disappear quickly. Portal-selling announcements would have to be persistent and/or repeated frequently. That would interfere with other people using LFG to, you know, find a group.
