I’ve been the victim of a new trend where a player joins an LFG group, cancels the search, and then leaves. I didn’t initially report anyone for this because it was just annoying and not technically game-breaking. This changed the other day after I had been searching for a while and then someone did this exact thing, so I decided to report them.

My question does this actually count as “LFG system abuse”? No one is getting hurt but it is a type of griefing and should be punishable if found guilty.

how is “joining a group, but then found that the group is not to your liking and then leave the group” considered an abuse ?

If I understand correctly, this isn’t what is happening.

What is happening is:

Player A starts a group advertisement
Player B Joins group
Player B cancels group advertisement
Player B quits group
Player A cries

Am I correct in this assessment?

If I recall correctly, the LFG tool shows how many people and what professions are already in the group before you join. So the only thing you can’t see is AP. Feels scummy to me.

Ohh I have seen so many times people leave becouse they notice for example Necros going full signet users or warriors with banners and Cleric gear and so on. Some players need this perfect setup before they can play a dungeon. They rather spend a day finding the perfect PUG to speed-run the dungeons rather than taking their time in the dungeon and enjoying it’s full content.

Anyway, on to topic;
I think it is worth to report. I hate players who greif players who are actually trying to play the game as it is meant to be played.

Well, that’s not even the problem here. They can leave, fine. But why would they actually cancel the group advertising if not to grief?

If the player that joined is the 5th of the group and then quit he didn’t cancel the LFG. THe LFG cancel itself when a 5th person join. So it that case he didn’t do anything intentionally (probably). I did exactly that yesterday. Me and my friend tried to join a Fractal group that had already 3 ppl in it, I got in be he wasn’t fast enough and a 5th person took the place. So i end up having to leave to play with my friend, which cancel the party LFG.

But if the person enter you party and the party is not full, then cancel the LFG and quit. Ya this is trolling and you LFG abuse. But personnally, i’m pretty sure its only the LFG that cancel itself because you where 5 person in the party at some point before the guy quit. In this case, its hard if not impossible to figure out if he had a good reason, or if he was trolling.

Joining, taking one look at peoples builds and then leaving immediately if you don’t like them is pretty stupid, even if you do want people to use specific builds.

A lot of people use different builds for dungeons to open-world PvE or WvW or whatever and a lot of people don’t get around to switching until they’re already in a group or even in the instance. I’m pretty sure this is part of why most groups will wait a minute or two either before entering or before choosing a path – so everyone can make sure they have the right gear, skills etc. equipped.

I’ve even had guild members join the group so we know they’re interested then switching to an entirely different profession to actually play.

So they should at least wait to see if anyone is changing their build. Or ask if they’re really worried.

they need to add into the game that only the host can cancel the search, and that adding a description doesn’t count towards the chat so u can’t get flagged for spamming

LFGs should not auto-cancel. This an auto feature implemented backwards.
Other games have auto join but this one has auto cancel LOL

i would consider this if the chat log didnt already state “player B has cancelled the search”

It doesn’t show players’ levels. OP is probably under-leveled or not 80, therefore people don’t feel like carrying him.

Not sure if this has been said, but once you have joined too many groups in X time, you can’t join anymore for a while.

So anybody “griefing” will only be able to do so for a couple of times.

They don’t “cancel” the advertisement per se. When you have a group of 4 players and the 5th one joins in, the advertisement is no longer valid since the group has been filled. So the system automatically takes down the advertisement in LFG the moment the party fills up. LFG been designed this way because otherwise we’d have tons of advertisements with full parties clogging up the LFG.
So in a way the player “cancels” his advertisement by joining his/her party. When person joins the party, they see the levels of players involved and leave since most likely it is not to his / her liking.
