LFM, level 80 only
I ran some 80 only speed runs with my newly 80’d guardian who only had level 40 greens and no accessories. Shhhh.
(She’s fully geared now so don’t stop inviting me ._.)
I also had some guy rage-quit from my AC Exp group after I found 2 40s to complete our group. Was funny seeing in trying to convince us the 40s would mean we would wipe.
Another reason I would rather there be an automatic grouping tool.
I managed to get in on an “all 80” run on my 36 engineer. I think the group didn’t notice or something, but halfway in someone said I wasn’t 80. Eeeexcept I was full-up elixirgunning and heal-turretting and overall being a green number pusher, so they didn’t mind.
I hate the “this only” MMO mindset. If I see anyone ask for “level 80 only” (or my personal favorite “level 80+++ plz”) I put those players on block.

I’m kinda 50/50 on this.
On one hand I hate elitism, and I think it is the number one player based killer of coop in MMOs. It’s still relatively easy to find a dungeon group, but it may not be so in 4-6 months.
On the other hand I don’t enjoy PuGs for AC. (TA is usually pretty good though.) The thing about AC is, I kind of rely on that to be my 1.5 hour (give or take) daily deed. I don’t mind showing new players the ropes and I don’t ragequit out of groups that are doing bad, but I would like to do a few smooth runs too.
So while I don’t make level 80 a requirement while forming a group, I’m much more likely to join a group limited to level 80s if I’m given the option.
It’s not because of the stats of the characters, its because of the lower chance of first time dungeon runners being in the group.
The MMO community just isn’t used to dodge rolling, self healing and not rolling pure DPS melee characters. It takes a bit of dungeon experience for them to learn.
There will always be those people that are looking for speedruns, so you will be required to be good and max level etc. just ignore those and make your own group, it’s REALLY not hard… took me all of 5 seconds to form a group “LFM MK all levels”
I’ve seen in chat specifying level 80 warriors and guardians only, so they throw class in there too -_-
Why does everything little thing have to be a problem? I mean I ask for level 80s only because I prefer faster runs and people with some exotics or full exotic sets which is a bonus. So really this is a petty thing to get mad about. Like someone said just make your own party.
I find it frustrating simply because skill plays a bigger role than traits and equipment in most cases. When I am on my alt and want to run the dungeons, I do find it frustrating that others will only group with 80’s. I’ve definitely grouped with 80’s who were less helpful in the group than some lower level peeps.
So how much does it matter if we compare a upscaled level 40 to 80 vs a excotic geared level 80 ?
Is the difference big enough to justify the extra time needed to get the fully geared level 80 or it is barelly noticeable ?
I find it hysterical people call it “elitism”, because it’s really the exact opposite of being elite. “80s only” is a perfect indicator that they are a horrible player, along with not understanding how scaling actually works.
If people wanted to be elitist about it they should ask for people with 2k+ achievement points only. That’s stupid as well, but it’s more in line with what they’re trying to accomplish.

Like someone said just make your own party.
Its not always easy, and sometimes impossible.
And the older MMOs get, the less likely it is to find groups that don’t have a specific requirement or build.
Requiring 80s only for low dungeons is pretty silly, but I think requiring it for dungeons that scale up a character (i.e. Ascent of the Mad King) is perfectly acceptable.
A character that’s been sidekicked up to 80 still doesn’t have the traits or level 80 gear. It’s pretty easy to see the different too. Go into Heart of the Mist with a level 1 character, check your DPS/utility. Now go into WvWvW with that same character. You may be sidekicked up to 80, but your DPS is much lower. Not to mention that you’re missing a lot of your traits…

Someone who gets it. I would consider the guy who says something like this a bad.

This guy honestly thinks 80’s only with gear will increase his odds at faster runs in a pick up group. That the level 80 who spends 50% of the run downed is somehow of more value than the level 50 who never dies because he knows how to dodge.
this was bound to happen. If we had an inspect tool, we soon would have minimum this and that, “required builds” and all those nice things to start an argument over
One way to proove you’re a level is T3 Armor (That’s one thing ONLY) BUT One really needs to be experienced in Dungeon runs is MORE Important than just being a Level 80. for example: In all honesty, “Yours truly”. AND Yes, I’m level 80 Guardian in all 215 hours of levelling my character I only get to go in Catacombs (I WAS Level 60 at that time) once died on the first path. After that run, got NO special loot actually. Thought it was time consuming for me (Because I was focusing more on getting to 80 ATT.)

I would like to see an automatic grouping tool too. This game is getting like GW1, I have a level 80 toon, but I do not want to be excluded on my lower level toons.
I’ve done regular AC runs with guildmates and occasional pug to fill spots, and they usually take no more then 30 minutes per path, regardless of what level characters everyone brings. Knowing the dungeon and what to do is far more important then character level. I laugh at people looking for 80’s only, because it means they don’t know what they are doing and are looking for a gear crutch.
As for grouping tool, NOT an automatic one. No thanks, no way. It inhibits community forming when you don’t need to communicate to form a group. A realm-wide lfg tool that lists groups, lfg’ers, and what content they want would be much better. A quick tell here and there and you’ve got your group, and you’ve met at least one other member of it so you have a chance to back out of (or be prepared for) a bad one. It also encourages guild formation since you can see the same names popping up all the time and get to know your local server people.

All my characters are level 80, but I won’t join a group that says level 80s only
Though sometimes it’s because the group don’t really know the tactics, sometimes it’s just efficiency that drives this request. You can’t blame people for being efficient when they are grinding out their tokens. People get very quickly to the point where they are doing X simply to get Y. That doesn’t mean it’s not fun. It’s fun because they like getting Y, it makes them feel like they are getting somewhere. If they get it faster it’s more fun. If you want to blame something for this elitism you should blame the tiered gear. Because level 35s can’t get exotics, but level 80s can then their gear is always going to scale down better. Not to mention that even if level 35s could get exotics most of them wouldn’t have them. One solution to this is to have proper downscaling in dungeons, that is you are brought down to the level of level 35 greens or some standardised level. But people like the power their hard earned exotics bring so that’s not going to be very popular. Another solution is to just accept it, level up, then it won’t matter.

@ Esturk, If everyone followed your idea, this game would be much better off. I hope there are others are like you… You rock!
Except for story mode, there’s no reason* not to run a dungeon on one of your 80s. Tokens are account-bound.
(the one reason I can think of is doing CM on a low-level alt cuz you’re hoping for runes of Noble)

You do gain a full level almost every path though.

Oh I see, hadn’t thought of urgency in leveling up at this stage of the game. Sure.
I haven’t pugged in GW2, altho a couple times we’ve picked up a 5th outside of guild. MMOs are always better with friends and guildmates. In my guild I haven’t noticed any stipulations, but of course you prefer to team with geared/speced/experienced.
Level 80s makes sense. For one high lvl armor got 3 instead of 2 or 1 stat boosts. Second they got more traits, 3rd they are more likely to not run around in gear 10+ levels behind their actual level and maybe even have full exotic if lucky.
I am finishing my third 80 and I have 20% map completion. It would take me awhile to even find a dungeon. Using level for a baseline is dumb.
Just want to point out Malediktus doesn’t understand how scaling works.
Exactly my prior point on people who want only 80s.

I know how scaling works. A lvl 35 in AC is definatly worse than a lvl 80 with full exotics.
I’m seeing a lot of “No n00bs” or “Good players only” in dungeon LFG spams these days. It is disheartening
Playing a various Stormspire alt – if it’s Stormspire, it’s probably me
Guilds: Elder Prophets [EP], Principality of New Katulus (PiNK)
anyone that thinks downscaling is linear and only a matter of a few more traitpoints needs to go to a low level zone with a lvl70+ char and obliterate some mobs.
while i personally don’t care, i certainly see the appeal for people looking for lvl80 only groups.
lvl80 comes with a number of assumptions:
a) contrary to low level characters you tend to have items equipped that match your level. i just leveled up another 80, and once 80 i replaced for example lvl35 jewelery with exotic lvl80 stuff.
b) the chance for you to be at least partially exotic equipped is quite high, considering that you make enough gold in the leveling process to buy yourself a full craftable armorset.
c) all armor in the sub 60 range have only two stats on them, which usually means players pick those with the damage stats (power/precision or condition damage/precision), thus tend to have no defensive stats whatsoever. this coupled with probably not much experience with their character in dungeon environments means they tend to die more. with a lvl80 char there is at least some chance he/she considered dying a nuisance somewhere in the leveling process, so he got him/herself some defensive stats, or enough skill to avoid the damage.
obviously skill is more important, but how can one possibly vet skill before going into a dungeon? so if you have the choice between raw power deficit + possible skill deficit and possible skill deficit you take the one with less unknown variables.

People who look for 80 only are just being a kitten, look for another group.
80 only means one of two things.
1. It’s a speed run, so they’re trying to do it as fast as possible, 0 wipes, so 80 only.
2. They need all the help they can get.
AC is hella easy, 80s only is jokes.
The scaling in this game is terrible. A level 80 will always do way better than say a level 40 at lvl 40 content. If the scaling worked better this wouldn’t be an issue. The reason 80s are always better is because of several reasons.
1) Traits make a huge difference and are something that straight up stat reduction cannot make up for it.
2) A level 80 in even low end 80 gear has higher stats than someone in top end gear for their level, even after scaling. (this part may be wrong but this is what i have noticed)
3) A level 80 usually has more experience at their class and usually knows how to play their class better than someone at say lvl 40.
When i was doing the mad king dungeon during the event, every person who was not 80 was just holding us back and often did little to nothing to actually help. This could however have been since it was scaled up rather than down so they were way less effective than if the 80s were scaled down. Not to mention the fact that they may dislike the idea of having to run the dungeons as well so they want all the best people for the job as they can get so they can plow through it easier and faster to get it over with.
The fact that this is starting when the game is still pretty new makes me weep for the future of it. Basically all those wanting the “only lvl 80” nonsense should go back to that other game that i won’t mention.
I guess I don’t see the problem here… we have one group of people who only want to run with level 80’s so they all group together and do the dungeons. We have another group of people who think the first group is really dumb and wouldn’t want to group with them and want to run with other like minded people… so we have 2 groups of people who both hate each other and don’t want to group with each other… so where is the problem?
yea If you do not believe that a level 80 is more effective in low level content just take your 80 back to the starting zones and fight some mobs. the difference is staggering. for pre 40 content you have 2 more stats than the low level characters and for pre 65 you have 1 more. Not to mention your gear is at level and superior in the first place.
I’ve never excluded anyone on my runs and never will. But I always celebrate when I get an all 80 team because it usually means a good 10-20 min at least shaved off the run no deaths and no need to explain fights.
I definitely understand why people advertise for it. especially for the harder dungeons.
