I’ve often been one of those nostalgic GW1-vets, pointing out the numerous ways Anet has turned away from the things that used to make them great. Well I just want to give my support of this new LS episode and map.

The new map is already as big as all of Dry Top. That’s a very clear improvement for only one episode. It’s still much smaller than a “real” zone, but a lot bigger than that tiny-bit-per-episode we got before. So thanks for that. I hope this is an indication of an increased amount of content for us to look forward to.

I haven’t gotten to play it too much yet, but the mechanics seem very inspired by WvW. I didn’t expect to see that sort of thing in a PVE map, but I find it interesting and full of potential. (I also understand there is some sort of limited PVP-flagging somewhere? That sounds cool too). I also approve of going with a reduced number of WPs. Fast travel to the general area, but then it still takes a bit of time and effort to get places and do things. The world feels a little more substantial and death (and everything else) a little more important. Yep, that feels more like a legit GW game, and I appreciate it.

The story parts were also nice. They included lots of new places to experience and lore to catch up on. I’ve played through the entire story so far and actually messed up my sleep for it (started around bedtime, now at work on only a few hours sleep). I’m caught up on the story, but I actually didn’t have time to read everything along the way. I fully intend to go back soon to see what I missed. Also everything involving Ogden is pure win (especially at the end, that was fantastic).

A lot of this new content was really begging for a 1st person view imo. I really wish you’d reconsider that. Anyway, please fix the final fight so the buffs work right, and otherwise thanks for the good patch. This was the most significant content delivery we’ve had in a long time. If this is a sign you’re stepping up your game from now on, I may just have to renew my optimism.

(Teasing me with those flying airships though ..you know how bad I want one I can actually use!)

Yes, yes, yes I agree with everything you’ve said. Anything helping to build a bridge between GW1 and 2 is a great thing and will only help to make everyone happy.

This is going to sound odd but at the moment I’m really enjoying not playing the Living Story. I think that’s one of my favourite things about Season 2, and one of the things that most reminds me why I got into GW1 in the first place.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed the story so far and I’m looking forward to playing the new release. Just…not right now.

The major selling point of both GW1 and GW2 for me was the lack of subscription, and later on I came to appreciate the lack of a gear/levelling treadmill for the same reason: it meant I could play as much or as little as I wanted without having to worry about it. If I don’t feel like playing for a week I don’t have to worry about wasting money, missing out or falling behind.

Season 1 changed that – if I didn’t log in I’d miss out on the temporary content, a whole chunk of the story I couldn’t play again. It’s really nice to be back to playing what I want, when I want.
