Can this be a thing?

It’s probably the third time that I’m going to level a character and miss out on the key because I ran the story a day earlier from the cooldown.

5 days would give more room for error so we don’t have to mark what time/day its finally free for another key.

On the same topic, is there any indicator signaling the cooldown is over and that I’ll get a key from the story instance? I couldn’t find anything.

The reset doesn’t change. It’s always on Monday (00:30 UTC-7). If you accidentally run a character, you can simply logout without accepting the reward and wait until reset.

Reset is always on Monday, so just run your character through on Tuesday and you won’t miss out on any key.

I ran my 6 ‘human god’ characters through recently. I just parked them all at the final stage (in my case “The Trial of Julius Zamon”) and every Tuesday I took one character through. This always got me my free key.

Changing reset to every 5 days would just mess everything up and be way too confusing.

  • Tuesday = Key day
  • Not Tuesday = not Key day
    Simple as that.

So wait, if the reset is always Monday, does that mean I can get a key on Sunday and another on Tuesday?

Well, even if it’s not the case, this helps a lot. So I can better plan for Tuesdays now.

I was under the impression the cooldown was per account, but knowing this I can better prepare for tuesdays to run those low level characters.

How can every 5 days be easier to remember than every Monday?

That’s exactly how it works. It doesn’t actually matter what day of the week you get the key on, the reset is always Monday.

If you looked up the exact reset time and factored in your time zone you could even do two runs on a Monday* but I think most people find it easier and/or more enjoyable to spread it out.

*Unless the reset is midnight your time, so technically it’s impossible to do 2 in one day. But you could do two in an evening if you go to bed after midnight.

Once per day max would be nice. Could be a happy medium between the “many-keys-per-day keyrunners” that were apparently a huge blight on anets profit margins and the once-per-week we have currently.

What story quest gives this?

The final part of the level 10 personal story arc. It doesn’t matter which one, all of them give the key at the end. Just remember: Only once per week, no matter what story you run.

FYI there’s no limit on the number of times you can get the 2nd key, from the L40 arc.

Even though the reset is on Monday, I’ve made it a habit to run my key character as my first activity on Saturday morning. That’s easy for me to remember.

Well, you don’t have to set it to Tuesdays just because I chose that day to get the key. You could do it every Saturday if that works out better for you. It’s just that reset occurs on Mondays.

Your impression is correct, 1 lvl 10 storyline key per week per account.
