Lack of Wep/armor skins
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
Not when they can sell said skins for gem store lottery tickets.
Ehh, I don’t mind them having some skins that are for sale through the gem store. However, to have only a handful of skins that one may be able to get from actually playing the game (pve world). I think it just sucks. Especially when they give these skins cool sounding names.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
Gem store skins are fine in my book. Its the frankly idiotic black lion weapon vendor skins that require tickets/scraps in RNG boxes that are a problem imo.
I would happily pay for a skin in the store. I am not going to waste any more of my time or money on a RNG box that may or may not give me 1/10th of a ticket.

I’m sorry you were saying?
There are tons of weapons skins available. Between the new champ skins, crafted rare (dredge/ogre/krait/pearl) and ascended skins, mystic forge skins, cultural weapon skins, dungeon weapon skins, pact weapon skins for completing personal story, heritage skins, legendaries, and yes gem store skins, you have plenty of options to choose from.
Same is true of armor to a lesser degree: http://www.gw2armorgallery.com/index.html
Don’t sit there and tell me there’s a “severe lack” of skins when that’s blatantly false.
Most of those skins in “the toilet” have high requirements for just a skin. And to be frank there a number of skins that are just plain horrible. Pearl and Krait for instance are really really ugly. Some skins are just re-skins, like the Inquest longbow which is a recoloured mystic bow.
So to be fair to the OP, he aint that far off.

Search ‘Gallery of [weapon]’ for similar lists of other weapon skins.
There are a lot of skins available, but a lot of them only come from a few places, or one specific place. For example each dungeon has a unique set of weapons and armor that you can’t get anywhere else.
If you’re only looking at heart vendors then that will be the problem. I’m not sure about weapons but for armor they only sell the karma sets, you have to go elsewhere for the other sets.
There’s also a lot more options at level 80 than at lower levels, but IMO it’s not worth worrying about what your equipment looks like until level 80 because you’ll be changing it regularly anyway.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Having skins in the gem store is fine. But they really do need to offer more in-game skins. I do NOT like the RNG lotto skins. They need to do away with that.
Kalarchis, I have seen all of the skins from the forge. I appreciate the list, however. Either way. Leveling a character in an mmo used to be one of the most interesting things about an MMO. Nevertheless, it seems that most of these forge skins are for end game.
Part of the failure of most MMO’s these days is that its a mad rush to get to “end game”. Why? Because the leveling part is boring, uninspiring and unrewarding (outside of reaching “endgame”). Having a decent amount of interesting armor and weapon skins (or lack thereof) is, to me, an often overlooked aspect as to why.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
Oh, I thought you were talking about end-game skins. I’ll agree that there aren’t a lot of options when you’re leveling up. I was pretty ticked off when leveling artificer and each new tier of staff was the same old basic skin recolored.
As Danikat said, I wouldn’t worry too much about appearance while leveling; it’s all temporary. Before I even make my characters I tend to plan them out around what end-game armor I’m going to get them. Everything leading up to that is just filler.
That said, I’m crafting my mesmer all the rare stuff in each tier and finding a lot of good variety in the skins that way. Started with heritage armor, bought T1 cultural at lvl 35, running lvl 50 masquerade now. Similar story with weapons. So there are ways to keep it fresh while leveling.

This is part of my point from my last post. For you, leveling being “filler” may be fine but I have an issue with this. I have made somewhere in the neighborhood of 10+ lvl 80’s (all of which have/had a combination of exotic/ascended gear). So, with all due respect, I don’t need tutorials on where or how to get skins.
I’m not really looking for ideas of what to do with what we are given in game. This was not the intent of my original post. I am pointing out that there is a poor choice of amor/weapon skins from pve (which mean’s actually playing the game). Someone even pointed out the dungeon quartermasters. More than half of those skins are TERRIBLE. Where is the creativity from anet?! Are they working on another “flame set” modeled after “fresh out of the character creator” skins?

Okay so what exactly is your complaint? Is it “not enough skins available”? Is it “not enough skins available when leveling up”? Is it “not enough way to get skins?” Or is it “not enough skins available that I like”?
“Not enough skins that I like”? I’m near certain, I’m not the only one that believes the dungeon token armor/weapon sets are half heart-ed attempts. You should re read my posts, though. I have stated several times what i mean, exactly.
At the end of the day, Anet is about the gem store. I understand that’s where they make their money and that’s fine, to a certain degree. However, you can still make money while elaborating on the fundamentals of the game (not to mention they already involve a charge, of some sort or other, to customize your skins anyways transmutation stones).
Plenty of f2p games out there that offer a plethora of skins while maintaining a decent income from their gemstore-esque skins(minus the transmutation stones). I’m not sure why Anet thinks its okay to offer the bare minimum. This was a game hyped on new innovative ideas. They should be at least capable of drumming up a good amount of armor skins obtainable from the pve world.

In most mmorpg you got to live with the skin that is on the item in GW2 you can switch the skin. Also GW2 has a lot of skins in the game a lot of them if you realty cant find something you like i do not think there any skin type you will like i think its more on the lines that for once in your life your not forced to have one skill and one skill only and you cant make decisions on what you like and do not like so your falling into a default “i hate every thing” mind set.

Not at all. There a plenty of skins I like in GW2. I’m not saying there aren’t enough skins I like in gw2. I’m saying there aren’t enough skins, period. Particularly, especially, ones you can get from open world pveing, mapping, questing etc etc.

There are a lot of champ and krama skins some realty nice ones there the cool pants that hold every item in the game hehe. They are all kind of hidden you need to look or just look them up online. Think of it on this lines you do event or “questing” to get krama you use that krama to buy rewarded that you want. In most mmorpg by the cap level every class looks the same from there weapons to gear often it hard to tell what class a person is in gw2 by looking at there skins alone.

There’s enough skins, maybe you didn’t get to lvl 80 yet, that’s when the skins start appearing, until then you’ll pretty much look the same

Maybe I didn’t get to lvl 80 yet and just maybe you and JSki didn’t even bother to read the thread before posting.

This really bothers me. I’ve played enough MMO’s where they have a decent amount of weapon and armor skins. However, in GW2 there seems to be a severe lack of weapon and armor skins outside of the TP/Gemstore.
In particular, when you complete a heart (or even random drops, for that matter), you go to the heart vendor and you see all of these elaborate names for the weapons and armors they have. Only, when you purchase those elaborately named weapons and or armor you find that its the same generic skin you’ve already seen a MILLION times since starter zone. This is really bad, imho. Not too mention, a let down. Is this something they’re going to look into at some point?
There could always be more. Then again there’s a ton more than FFXIV which I’ve not long come from.

If this is true then FFXIV isn’t even worth the space it would take up in my comp.

To be fair, skins or no, it’s a fantastic game. Similar to this one in some respects. In both cases I’m happy with one good looking set of armor – mechanics and gameplay are far more valuable than shinys imo.
