Lack of armor models?
It has about as many as GW1 did at release. Back when this game was a horizontal progression, GW1 sequel I would have just said “Don’t sweat it, we’ll get more skins later on!”. However, now that it is becoming a gear grind vertical progression, WoW sequel I’m not so sure how many new models will be seeing in the future, since progression apparently will about bigger numbers rather than better looks.
Does not include crafted sets or sets you find while leveling.
Am i the only 1 who thinks that armor lack different models? Trough the period of 1-80lvl i change the look of my armor only 2-3 times. There isnt much different look beside the dungeon exotic gear at 80…
I thought so at start as well. Then I discovered that some Heart/Karma vendors sell different looking gear pieces, as well as Cultural Armour, not to mention The Vigil, Durmand Priory, Order of Whispers etc Armour. Make sure You check those out before chosing which one to go by as then You are stuck with that one option.
Also rare crafted armour usually looks different than blue and greens etc.
As You mentioned Dungeons all have different skins as well. Plenty to chose from. Not saying I always want more looks to play with but there are quite a few already.
Also note that dye can make the same armour look very different. Like in my taste this first example is awesome, while the one below of same armour juts looks bellek and kind of meh in my taste. However thats just my taste so each to ones own of course.
Heart/Karma Vendor Heavy Gear.
Same Heart/Karma Vendor Heavy Gear but other dyes.

There is actually a lot of different gear (skins). Being that most are $$ U tend to see some more then others. I don’t think other then pre Xmorg Wow Ive ever seen so many looking the same :/
Being in our day and age using Gw1 as a ref is just bad…
The different stones for each 1-79 and then 80 for transmutating makes changing looks harder… i want to wear the look of another set but i have to use the other one….

Yup this is JUST LIKE WoW all of the art style, the storyline, the play style, the game concepts, heck even the name is an anagram for WoW amiright? Yea I totally agree I mean like vertical progression = no new skins right? Stat boost and skins are like totally mutually exclusive concepts you make a good point Tolmos.
I would always welcome more looks to armor, I know that some of my friends who have leather wearing classes are concerned about every set being a ‘trenchcoat’.
I’m concerned that because ‘ascended’ set will be so hard to earn that people will want to show off their work and we all may end up in a uniform look.
The most lacking area for me however is ‘town clothes’, there is not a single thing that looks ok on a female charr in there, and the default town clothes look like someone took to my charr with some corregated cardboard and a staple gun.
About 2 months ago Anet were advertising for costume artists (modelling and texturing) so hopefully new stuff will emerge before long.
The only ascended item that can be seen is the backpack. Rings don’t show.
Here’s another site with a more complete list of armor looks.

The majority of those sets are all locked behind dungeons or rare/exotic crafting. Between the general disdain for running dungeons and the significant amount of grinding needed for either of them, it should come as no surprise that very few people will see them.
So aside from that, I think there are 3-4 different item skins from 1-40 per armor type. Another 2-3 from 41-60, and 2-3 more at 61-79.
