We spend most of our time on late-game maps. Instead of gradually building up a repertoire of nodes and drops, you made them level specific. This is fine when you are leveling, but once you hit cap you want to play the maps that are actually challenging. Having only Mithril+, Elder Wood+, Silk+ and Thick Leather+ on high level maps creates a glut of what should be rare and valuable materials and pulls people out of the game in order to go farm on maps they have no interest in playing on because they can 2-shot everything.

This is compounded by the fact that all new maps, forevermore, will be high level. There are more maps with these resources on them than there are for every other resource COMBINED. The unstable materials introduced in LW3 are helpful, but by no means a replacement for a more balanced material distribution. Please change the way resource nodes and drops are distributed.

Isn’t it more a function of people having level 80s rather than map nodes. At level 80 your drops are almost all high level gear, which salvage out to t5 and t6 mats. So even if they shifted nodes around you’d still be getting level 70-80 gear with its salvaged mats.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Mats being level specific help new players who are leveling up be able to gather and sell mats for gold. It will also drive up the cost for higher tier mats as now the node spawns have to be split between all tiers and not just the level appropriate onces.

I do not agree with this suggestion.

I find opening bags on lower lvl alts can help a great deal here. It keeps you with a nice balance of Tier 5/6 and below if you open on the correct lvl alt for what you need.

Having said that I wish they would add Seaweed to more of the level 80 maps! Why is it only on 2-3 maps? There could have been some added to Ember Bay!

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

There is actually a seaweed farm in Ember Bay. Here’s a video someone made showing where it is.

@ the OP: I open up all containers on a level 53 char. I find that gives me a good supply of mid range mats. It’s rather a workaround and requires tying up a character slot but you’ll get those midrange mats that way.

I shouldn’t need to play on alts to get mats. That’s a bodge to get around a broken system, not a feature.

Guild halls and wvw have nodes that give all tiers of materials.

That’s awesome, thanks for the info! For my 2 person guild seaweed was becoming a problem for those speed upgrades, now thanks to this – no problem!

Oh I do agree. There should be some alternatives. In the past I have suggested offering a system similar to the upgrade system we currently have via the Mystic Forge. That is let us downgrade for example tier 5 mats to Tier 4 etc etc. This would at least give us another option.

… and then they have to buy it all back when they try to level crafting
