Lack of stat combos is killing this game for me
I’ll +1 this thought as well. especially for the trinkets section of your character, as they are limited (to my knowledge) to the basic , carrion, beserker, valkyrie, knights, cleric, rampagers, explorer’s sets. with armor we also have the combination offered through the karma vendors in Orr aswell.
The jewelry setup at least, is a disaster. You can’t even craft jewelry that doesn’t have power on it. It’s not like you can go to the nearby exotic dungeon jewelry vendor for other setups either, because they don’t exist.
I too found this particularly frustrating. When speccing out my engineer I came to the conclusion that I wanted a very particular stat lineup, initially I landed on one that is only available in PvP but has different stats in PvE.
The Shaman Amulet in PvP gives +Toughness (Primary), +Healing and +Condition Damage (Secondaries).
In PvE it gives +Vitality (Primary), +Healing and +Condition Damage (Secondaries).
This made no sense to me. Why give the same prefix different stats in one game mode over another? Why only allow us to craft some, but make others only accessible via dungeons (or not at all, some combos don’t even exist).
Seems to be no purpose for it.
This is because of the horrible design decisions made when creating the underlying statistical system for their combat.
Because “there is no trinity”, ArenaNet thought that it would be better to make armor with slapdashed stats all over it. Armor isn’t even supposed to have stats. Your traits are supposed to be what changes your playstyle, but apparently traits only give you more statistical bonuses. Which let’s be honest… the most useful statistical bonuses in Guild Wars 2 are vitality and toughness, because the combat is based on dodging!
AWESOME SYSTEM! Let’s scatter stats across the board and make runes and gems next to worthless! SWEET!

I love to play a game when I can really get into the playstyle I want. I don’t even mind grinding a bit for gear that supports/enhances how I want to play.
The trouble with GW2 is that there is no gear anywhere in PvE that provides the stats I’m looking for. There’s plenty in PvP. Why was this decision made? It’s stupid. Why rehash the same basic six stat combinations with tons of different looks in crafting, karma vendors, dungeons, and WvW? More stat combos support people trying out new builds and new chars. Why was PvE shafted in this regard?
I don’t even want to spend the time or money getting an exotic set if it’s not something I want to play in.
Can we please get more stat combinations in PvE?
What would be your ideal stat combination?

Doesn’t matter because every stat combination is not available for every piece of end-game armor. /fail
i dont totally agree here.
if you want to be succesful in tough content and wvw, you need to master more of your weapons, and also skill swap.
ex: in a dungeon vs 1 big boss, you dont use your staff if your guardian.
but if the room is filled with mobs and every party member switch to aoe weapon/skills, it makes it much easier.
each classes have a LOT of options, and a true master juggles well with that, and think quick.
youll never be stat wise “the best at everything” but youll need to adapt, a lot, even if it
means using skills you dont have all the right traits for.
dont fight a dredge with blinding attacks …
Your traits are supposed to be what changes your playstyle, but apparently traits only give you more statistical bonuses.
Untrue! Most real builds I’ve seen actually get something out of their trait picks. The raw stat boosts are useful, but in many cases aren’t as important — because you can offset them with gear.
Which let’s be honest… the most useful statistical bonuses in Guild Wars 2 are vitality and toughness, because the combat is based on dodging!
This statement is internally incoherent. If combat is based on dodging (i.e. avoiding getting hit altogether), why are Vitality and Toughness the best stats rather than the worst?

Because once you can’t dodge anymore you need to be able to take hits…?
dodging mitigate some dmg, but you cant dodge a knock prone in a red circle of doom.
so, have a plan B
youll need it.

“Need” is the keyword. It’s like they didn’t anticipate it but no matter what build you decide to go with, you can’t go into that red circle. Or you’ll get obliterated.
Because once you can’t dodge anymore you need to be able to take hits…?
There are builds that don’t run out of dodges, thanks to good trait choices and synergy between their traits and skills.

You mean thieves and engineers have good dodge synergy? Because as a Guardian or a Warrior… good luck achieving this.

… So why do you insist that Toughness and Vitality are straight-up the best stats?
What would be your ideal stat combination?
Same as one of the posters above – Toughness, Healing, Condition damage (Shaman’s in PvP). I built a powerful support build that can only get good damage via conditions. Works great in PvP. It feels totally kittened in PvE. Power and precision are completely worthless to my build (slow/infrequent attack speed), yet I’m forced to dump around 600 points into them.
Regardless of the exact combo though, there are many combos that are simply unavailable, and there’s no good reason for it.
It’s true there are some “missing” stat combos.
It’s false to think it matters too much for your character’s performance.
Just build a set that’s close to what you want. Your performance will be indistinguishable from how it’d be if you had exactly what you wanted.
600 points makes a very noticeable difference no matter what stat you put it on. I could also play the game without selecting any of my major traits, but that makes a big difference too.
I just want them to add mor prefixes to the gear in PvE. Preferably via crafting, but I’ll grind karma if I have to in order to get shaman’s gear (toughness, healing, cond dmg). I know others who would love to see Ravagers, Soldier’s, and a lot more options with healing in them, especially as a primary stat.
They can’t balance it. That’s why.
Some kind of reforge thing like they have in WoW would be cool.
Healing, Toughness, and Condition damage are called the “Apothecary” set in PvE.
I would like to see, for those that already obtained Exotic sets, not only more stat combo’s but a free trade in of old Karma sets, to new karma sets. What I mean by this is, swapping out your old sets for a new stat combo of sets.
So if a player went in the support direction on their character, and say either they want to try a a damage build, or thier guild ask them to go DPS instead, they will be allowed to swap out there Pieces of Exotic Karma gear, for another set with different stat combos on them for free. Instead of grinding ALL the karma all over again just to change thier gear for their new build.

I’ve never seen or heard of it. Is it new with the Lost Shores patch? Please share if you know how it’s acquired.

Yes, it is new. You can start collecting mats for it now with Consortium Chests, but bar that, you’ll have to wait until Lost Shores for the mats.

You can get the Karka shells from the TP as well.

Looks like GW2 is turning into a Pay to Win game. If I want Pay to Win. There are so many other MMO’s out there that fit that discription.

In what way? You realize the karka shells from the TP are from people who are opening Cosortium Chests, right? The mat can be farmed from the zone starting tomorrow…

We will see. If the TP gem store is bringing in the income, then why would they NOT add unique things in it to give a somewhat better advantage over whats in game already? Every game I seen that had a store like whats in GW2, eventualy want in that direction of a Pay to Win game. Although Devs swore it would not, but it did.
It is based on one of the most powerful words in the english language.

They’ve already said everything available in the chests you can get in the new zone.
And I doubt there’s much income at all. I think most players are like me and wouldn’t even consider buying gems with cash.
