Lacks luster?
You become a special little snowflake from your ability to stand out from the usage of these skills, not from just the mass amount of slotable skills. If this is an existential conundrum for you, roll magi/nomad sword torch axe axe Ranger, and embrace individuality. Extra points if you research and use the least common ranger pets!
I’d watch your stream.
I agree the end game feels a bit rough. The builds are all very very similar because some stats just absolutely suck, and I don’t know why they even include them. It also feels like the end game is more about fashion then anything else, which is ok in retrospect, because it encourages people to be more original. However, that’s not the same for builds with all the meta BS, I hardly see people running around WvW with different builds, most of the differences are few, but about 80% of the builds are similar. It’s kinda sad.
It’s actually quite refreshing to play an MMO that’s not just a giant gear treadmill, where content is constantly made obsolete because you can just out-gear it.
One of my 4 warriors runs around with a hammer and mace/shield. I might not kill things as fast as the next guy, but I have fun doing it. And that in the end is what really counts.

I love that the focus of the game is not in endless grinding and upgrading stuff. I come from another game that to get the best equipment you now need to either spend aprox 8000$ or play for 4 years the current content (only dungeons, skirmishes and PVP) for about 4 years to get it. There’s also nothing that rewards exploration,. it’s basically become grind and refine online. Like a sad, expensive facebook game.
So I’m glad to see GW2 is different, it has exploration, jumping puzzles, a great story arc , and getting the best equipment isn’t the final focus of the game, and even doing that is not that long or expensive.

…Archeage? Lol
nope, Neverwinter XD
GW2’s reward is aesthetic, not statistical.
One of the aspects I really disliked about Aion was the system for +10’ing, or even +15’ing your weapons and armour. No. It’s an expensive, not to mention RNG, load of kitten, and no. The buzz you get from equipping your +15 Super Bow of Stunlocking Awesome should be translated into the buzz of finally unlocking a prestige skin that you can then flaunt around town and make people swoon as you pass.
I admit, it was all a lot more potent “back in the day”. Anyone know of that animated Jotun Greatsword skin you can get for Karma in Snowden Drifts? I found it while playing the beta and basically bee-lined to it when the game released. For several weeks I had people whispering me asking me how I got that skin, and that felt great! There’s a lot less of seeing a player with an awesome skin you’ve never seen before now and that makes me a bit sad.
I agree, I feel much more rewarding to have a rare skin and a beautiful armor/weapon than getting my +15 weapon of awesomeness that looks just like the same and either costed me a fortune or a ridiculous amount of playtime to get it.
I think the main issue with the game is tied into how quickly you hit level cap, which is fine to have a casual player hit 80 in 5-12 days and all.
But most people have an expectation that once there the game will change sort of, and it really doesn’t. I hit 80 then I go back and clear low level for completion, do the same jump puzzles I could do at lv1, be the same power in spvp as I was at lv1, I could participate in endgame dungeons/raids (soon) but that’s a small aspect and the weakest part of the game mechanically.
To be fair I really like a lot of these “negative aspects” like being able to enjoy lv15 zones at 80 without it being 100% worthless snooze fest due to over power.
The definite thing that feels off…and almost lack luster. You hit level 80. Now you have access to endgame pve instances which isn’t this game strong suit…and otherwise…you just do the same stuff you did before only your 80 now.
They need to devise a mechanic, something to get really excited for, and something I can only do at lv80 that I really want to do between clearing old maps, jumping around stuff, and doing the same pvp ive been doing all game.
Not an easy thing to do mind you. But I think this is the missing ingredient of the game. Anet seems creative enough, and if bucking the trend with mmorpgs is their thing, this is something I think they need to look into. I don’t have an answer, maybe raids will help somewhat.
I think there needs to be something like Guild dungeons with guilds stocking their dungeons with mobs using special currency they farm. Then have other guilds able to raid said dungeons to steal currency if they make it to the end, while the owning guild can personally defend it too. Something with a metagame aspect and politics involved. “hey 10 guys form guild xyz just entered our dungeon we need 10 people asap to go defend” or “hey we need more guild tokens forming a party to raid guild xyz’s dungeon” or “thanks everyone we have enough currency to hire this fractial boss to guard our dungeon!”
I think masteries will help you. And the map specific dailies HoT will bring.
