Lag Spikes and Loading Screens
Ya same here mine got worse since they started the cross server friend play, witch I like but ya the lag is getting worse. but I’m assuming that it will get fixed eventually and 1/2 is probley on my end :0
Same here (EU server).
I get a lot of sudden lag spikes that last like 1 second but they’re frequent enough to make the game nearly unplayable.
I’m pretty sure it’s not just me because others in the server report the same issue….
I get a d/c once a night, since about 2 months after release, and it seems with every update my loading screens take a little bit longer.
Been an issue for me for 3 weeks now. I at first thought it was my connection, but various speed tests and a new router have ruled that out. Can’t be server load either as I play on Ferg’s Crossing which is the least populated server out there.
my loading screens take like 3 whole minutes to load sometimes. It’s insane the wait time. I had hoped they would have fixed whatever system they use to place characters in a zone or their login server by now but I guess not. It’s not my computer or internet connection btw it happens no matter where I try it.
I’ve been noticing a lot of unexplained lag in sPvP. I run ping plotter in the background to track my connection and it rarely has lag spikes or packet loss, but I often have stretches where abilities take 30 seconds to activate.
I never used to have bad lag spikes like that outside of Stonemist three way zerg fights.
*before anyone asks, type /ip in the chat window to get your server’s IP address.

Same here SoS server and im Aussie, but one minute my games running fine then the next i’m like you guys above, its strange and annoying, and to be honest i’m tired of it.. this is in all parts of the game WvW, Pve, etc
And yes my loading screens take minutes (maybe 5) too load, they never used too, when i first started playing GW2..

Ugh, I am experiencing the same lag issue. It’s nice to know that I’m not alone, but it doesn’t soothe my frustration. I too remember the game in the beginning and how much more smoother it was. However, now I experience lag wherever I am.
Today I did some PvE (which I haven’t done in awhile) and was shocked that I was experiencing the exact behaviour of lag I do in WvW. I also tried some sPvP today and remember why I never play that part of the game anymore… because of the lag. At first it will be fine and then at the next map, the lag begins and worsens if I stay, eventually becoming unplayable.
I absolutely love GW2, so I don’t think this issue will stop me from playing, but it’s a fact that it’s frustrating, annoying and compared to the way the game was from launch, it’s not better, but much worse which is a sad thing at the very least.
If it’s any help to Anet, I’m from Australia – on SoS.
I started to have, with GW2 only, lag spikes + CPU overload resuming with laptop overheat.
Last like max 1 min but pretty annoying.
Don’t have such with any other game or application.
I don’t get it, the more content they add the heavier the game gets but in an uncontrollable way. And it’s a bit ridiculous that they keep adding new content without ever fixing these load times and lag spikes that these new content are bringing in.
The game just gets heavier and heavier, slower and slower, and laggier and laggier.
I mean it’s not as if these issues aren’t a serious detriment to game play, it should be addressed.
These loading, lag, and crashing issues can be so severe that I had a friend who almost lost a character because of it. She was travelling from Lion’s Arch to the Black Citadel and the loading screen was as usual horribly long, however it never ended and her game crashed while her character was in the loading screen.
Somehow, her character got caught stuck neither in Lion’s Arch nor in the Black Citadel and she couldn’t play her character, whenever she tried getting on said character the game would crash. It was a pretty frustrating and worrisome issue, after days and days of customer support the only way she was able to recover her character was by uninstalling GW2 and reinstalling it all over again.
In the same boat. Game on release no lag no long loading No Disconnects. Lately I DC lag all the time and the loading screens are starting to get annoying with the length.
loading screens are killing me… its because they are so long i need to kill some time so i go make a coffy… coffy is bad for my body… so loading screens are killing me
I have also been getting lag lately and sometimes my game just goes into a funny cycle where all my skills flash at the same time and then I dc a few seconds later
- I have been having issues with my connection though so I thought it was that.
I had to comment just because of your brilliant fire nation/avatar reference <3 <3 <3 <3
In all seriousness though, load times are a kitten.
I kind of wish there was a percentage bar/size indicator like in GW1, at least then I would know what is going on.
I get lag spikes every once in a while, I’ve gotten into the habit of dodging randomly when running around because stamina is 100% server side. If the stamina bar doesn’t react to your doges and/or doesn’t fill up smoothly afterwards, you have lag.
Load screens aren’t an issue for me, but my friend who doesn’t have an SSD can literally go and make coffee for us while Lion’s Arch loads. Anyway this probably means it’s mostly the sheer number of players there, and perhaps amount of textures to load. Players congregated in LA before, but fractals probably added to this.
Is it just me or has loading screens become much quicker than they were previous to the Feb 26th patch?
I might just be hallucinating here but Lion’s Arch loading screens would take up to 1-2 minutes for me, now they’re loading in some 15-20 seconds. This could just be a random one time thing but who knows.
Also I wonder if Anet increased the size capacity of areas, it’s been months since I would go to Lion’s Arch and NOT be put in an overflow, now since the Feb 26th patch I’ve yet to go to an overflow even once.
