Lagging behind personal quest
Yeah I have a similar problem I am a norn ranger and cant complete my level 22 story quest and I am now level 31,I just keep dying all the time and no one is around to help.
A nice tip i do is ill either craft a level or clear the zone , i am always keeping up with my story this way
At level 80, I just met Magister Sieran. I’m much more a fan of world exploration, which can easily level you beyond the personal story.
The issue seems to be you’re confining yourself to human starting zones – travel to any other racial capital should be free. Check out Caledon Forest, Metrica Province, or Plains of Ashford.
You’re going for all PoIs, skill challenges, vistas, and waypoints, too, right? Gathering everything in sight? Completing the daily achievements? I was only at 50% world completion and 0% PvP when I dinged 80.

“appropriate for my level” seems to strike me as where you’re going wrong.
Do all the content you can, regardless of level. You still get rewarded for content under your level, and if you play well you can usually do content that’s a few levels above as well.
As for your crafting xp question-you gain roughly 10 real levels per crafting profession maxed.
It is a ton of xp at low levels.
As others have said explore other areas, gather, do de’s etc- killing mobs would probably be one of the least effective ways to gain xp.

Appropriate for my level meaning that i’m not trying to tackle on something that’s beyond me. I have no problems doing content bellow my level, but the one beyond it is where i struggle. The mobs are pretty hard to tackle when they are more than 2 level above mine.
I’ll start doing gathering/crafting. It’s not really my thing but i’m sure it’ll be better than just grinding mobs.
As for going to different starting zones i was hoping to stay in human for as long as possible since i’m curious about how the story turns out. But i guess i could skip around to see other stories as well.
Make sure to do your daily achievement… I was able to get to level 22 on a new character and I only got 100% completion in 2 cities and Queensdale, and about 75% completion in Kessex and Metrica Province.
XP for low level events and stuff has been buffed since it used to take me 100% completion in all 5 starter zones just to get to level 23… You don’t have to go looking for every DE in the zones – just make sure to tag stuff for participation in every one you pass as you complete everything else.
I’ve got my new character up to lvl 66 and I have just started the over lvl 25 maps. You don’t change personal story when you go to other areas, it is tied your character. If you want a different storyline—then you will have to create a new character with a different race. Basically I take my character through all the lvl 1-15, then all the 15-25 etc. and complete them 100% Crafting helps alot!!! Completing the dailys’ is also an help.
Leveling up is quick and easy in this game. Level up 1st and put the story line on hold then go back to play them later. It’s not like you will playing a lvl60 character in a lvl 5 storyline.—-The game lvls you down to the story’s lvl.
Don’t mis-understand. Hearts, and events ARE the quests of guild wars. Your personal quest line is the only old fasion one in the game. You are expected to go around and complete events and hearts in between them. Also just because you are running into high level hearts in one area doesn’t mean there aren’t more in another area of the zone you are in. the 10-20 zones usually spread out to max level as it reaches the 2 or more zone connection points to higher level zones.
Thanks for the tips guys. I’ll use your advice and tweak my gameplay
