Wiki says:

“Lake Doric was originally a planned zone for north of Divinity’s Reach, but was scrapped very early in development.”

But they might have started developing it again for current Living Story and Caudecus. Who knows?

I hope this will be the next map. It looks very peaceful.
Every new map we’ve had until now is one giant hell pit filled with death en mayhem.
That’s… awesome of course. But not every new map should be like that, it would be nice to have some less hostile maps too. With more open terrain.

If they do Lake Doric it would be nice if they would just connect it with core Tyria without gated access. They had us pay for shared slots but they are eating them up with portal scrolls. They need to replace those portal scrolls with something that pops up a menu of destinations.

Old LA used to have an area with a bunch of Asura gates that were never used. This would’ve been perfect for that. Have a Hub with Asura gates for all the new areas that cannot be reached without an Asura gate.

More likely we’re heading to the Isles of Janthir. They dropped hints about it last living world installment claiming that’s where Caudecus was apparently heading.

Would be nice if we went to Lake Doric first, then from there, we take a ship to the Isles of Janthir. Lake Doric is connected to Janthir Bay by river.

I don’t believe leaks, especially after this “logos leaks”. And the weirdest thing in this is that it started few weeks from episode 3 and this “logos leaks” started Chinese People. And suddenly before episode 4 “new map leaked”, seems like someone plays with us. I don’t trust in these leaks, because perhaps they cheat us. You know how good is technique of China, they can even cheat us with the looking of all the dragons. But I believe only in the devs. Why did these leaks appear only in China? Isn’t ANet’s HQ in USA? So ANet sent the patch to China first and accidentaly they gave the new map in China… Yeti is more possible than this. But everyone knows, that something like Yeti doesn’t exist and this is just gorilla. And everybody wants make sensations, because they found “big footsteps” and in fact someone just cheats us.

I don’t trust in this leaks, because every patch of ANet always was Top Secret and even China cannot get any info from HQ of USA. I am 100% sure.

This “new map” might also be a leftover in China’s version which we don’t have access anymore.

Lake Doric has existed as an incomplete and inaccessible — yet still “real” — map since release. What I suspect happened is that the Chinese developers intended to create a DR portal scroll, but made a typo on the map ID. And now every player in China has a gizmo that lets them enter an unfinished map.

That map has been in the data files since the beginning, so I wouldn’t necessarily assume this means it’s being actively worked on again. It could be – but those screen shots don’t look any different than the data mined views of the map I’ve seen. (Search YouTube for “WoodenPotatoes Lake Doric” if you want a fly-through tour using data mined assets and a third-party map viewer.)

That area has been showing up for some time now in various glitches. Back in Nov 2015 a person reported getting map completion rewards for that map. https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3tkqfg/lake_doric_map_completion/

Lots of us got the Map Completion rewards for Lake Doric. The Dev responsible for the hiccup posted here (I believe, though it could have been in an AMA) on the forums. =)

I also got Lake Doric map completion earlier this year. I figured it was a world completion requirement that had been removed and for whatever reason was lingering as a ghost achievement/requirement.

This, so much. I am truly hoping for a scroll compendium of sorts, because at this pace it’s getting ridiculous.

On-topic: A more peaceful and quiet map would be nice for a change. Although, for the next big expansion, I am rooting for Cantha and/or Elona/Vabbi to be re-introduced into the game.

that’s strange, I have yet to buy a single portal scroll, it’s almost like they’re not even slightly useful at all

I hope in some point in the future the new areas could be new paths over (or under) old, “plain”, peaceful maps. Like a bunch of floating stones and vines similar to the Nighmare JP over Caledon, just bigger and wider, floating over Queensdale, or a complex grid of mining tunnels, subterranean streams and moving walkways/escalators under Metrica Province…

Why did these leaks appear only in China?

ArenaNet has full control over their own releases, but the content has to be given to China for localization. ArenaNet doesn’t want people datamining future releases, so they’re not going to push every update live. China however might not care as much.

In this case however, this zone isn’t new. It was abandoned prior to launch and the alpha assets can still be seen.

The next map is likely the desert, and those threads were deleted.

Divinity’s Reach is internally Valley_Divinity and the VERY OLD Lake Doric map that was not meant to see the light of day, is internally Valley_Reach. Now, back in the day, Izzy was working on ectobox in his free time and made a test version of what would eventually become the City Portal Scrolls. Looks like he set the target location to Valley_Reach which shouldn’t have been a problem since test items should never be given to players. Whoops! This map was cut from the initial launch of GW2 a couple YEARS before ship. It is not a map in development, you can see that it is very rough because no one has worked on it in at least 6 or 7 years. This is not Episode 4’s map and we have zero plans to release this into the game at any point in the future. So have fun in there if you happen to be one of the Chinese players who were given this item!”

And it sounds like at least an implication that Episode 4 will indeed have a map. As expected based on their desire to add a map with each episode.

That’s a shame, Lake Doric is one of the areas I’d really like to visit. Admittedly I’m curious about ALL the areas we can’t currently get to, but the fact that it’s in between maps we can visit makes it more frustrating that we can’t go there.

If they do Lake Doric it would be nice if they would just connect it with core Tyria without gated access. They had us pay for shared slots but they are eating them up with portal scrolls. They need to replace those portal scrolls with something that pops up a menu of destinations.

There already is a menu of destinations – it’s called the world map and waypoints. You can get to any map you’ve previously visited from anywhere in the world.

OK you have to pay but the fee is minimal, especially for going to the new maps – mine a couple of nodes once you get there and you’ll likely make a profit. Between the cost of the scrolls and the fact that they take up an inventory slot I just don’t see the point in having them.

(Although it would be nice to have new maps which we can just walk to.)
