There is an hidden achievement to kill an Executioner in Lake Doric, but for it to spawn it seems to require failing defense of Saidra’s Haven.

I thought there was not going to be things anymore that needs events to fail.

There is constant fighting now in the map chat all the time of people arguing and bashing those who are defending the town.

It really is not healthy to lock something behind failing event on purpose. The legendary collections should have taught that.

It does seem to be an odd thing to do. I was in the map exploring the other day and noticed all kinds of insults and abuse being shouted at people who were doing the event. I can see how people could get annoyed if they’ve been trying to get the achievement that needs it to fail, but it doesn’t really justify the amount of abuse in chat, especially being that what I saw in the chat was basically 5 mins of a couple of people calling everyone idiots (along with all kinds of swearing and abuse) for trying to do it, and when someone doing the event asked why to let it fail they just got more abuse, not an explanation of why they didn’t want people to do the event.

A lot of people won’t even know there’s an achievement for letting it fail, so will of course try to do the event, which makes perfect sense as it’s the natural thing to do. Having an achievement like this does seem to create a lot of unnecessary fighting and abuse, from what I’ve seen mostly from the ones who need it to fail. I think having things that need to fail is definitely bad for the community / game.

The achievements are fine. The problem is that events designed as a tug of war will potentially never fail and because of that, you’ll never see the other side of it. There simply needs to be a guaranteed failure every once in a while. After every successful defense for example, the white mantle could get twice as strong, or they could simply have them bomb it and win.

There are always new instance. And there are always older instances. In both cases, the events are already failed by the time one arrives.

It’s not so much that the events need to fail as that the town/control point needs to be under Mantle Control. So far, every time I’ve worked on the story, at least one of the maps I’ve entered has included events to retake one/more of the relevant areas.

Further, in a few months, it won’t matter, as the population will have dispersed to other zones, creating a situation in which the defense events are less common than the retake ones.

In other word, this is only an issue because we just learned about these hidden events and some people want to finish them ASAP.

I might feel differently if the umbrella achievement of 28 chieves or important collections were locked behind these events. But since there are plenty of “excess” chieves, I think the community can handle some being tied to defense and some tied to retaking.

I had this as well last night. It got to the point of death threats against the players attempting to defend. Not fun at all. It’s a failed model they they keep using that just creates conflict and brings out the worst in players.

Tossing my voice in as well. Stop doing this. No one likes this. No one will ever like this. It would have been easy to make the executioner be a rare event even when the town is under Seraph control.

It’s been changed for a while now, no?
The hidden achievement is called Perfect Execution. The description is “Rescue villagers set by the White Mantle to burn at the stake or escort quaggans near Saidra’s Haven.”
Does the quaggan event require Saidra’s Haven to be under White Mantle control, too?

Just to be clear, this thread was posted BEFORE the patch that changed it into what it is now:

Renamed the Execute the Executioner achievement to Perfect Execution. This achievement now requires players to complete either the “Defeat the White Mantle and save the villager from burning event” or the “Escort the quaggan refugees to their destinations” event in order to obtain it.

Post was made on 12th, and the patch came on 14th.

So this is not relevant anymore, it got fixed, no need to comment on it more.
