Hey guys, because of circumstance I have to leave my precious desk top for a time, or at least wont have much access to it.

Was wondering if anyone had any insight into a laptop, or a tablet that can easily run the game at around 60+ FPS on at least low graphics. (I just wanna play right I’ll care about graphics when I come back >:3)

If possible I would like to be able to have post processing, and shadows. Or go up to med graphics. While keeping stable 60 FPS or above in at least a raid. If there is something WvW compatible that would be ideal if I could keep 60 FPS among a mob of players.

I realize this might be a hard task for GW2 but if you have any experience with portability for this game I’d appreciate the insight. Something towards the cheaper end would be nice as I’m not really looking for a mobile powerhouse or anything to bulky.

you will not get decent desktops to run at 60 fps without investing in them

try remote desktop on a cheap laptop, you run the game on your desktop and play it on your laptop screen.

I wouldn’t recommend the remote desktop route, your overall latency will be brutal.

You’ll probably need at least a low level gaming laptop to run GW2 reasonably because of the graphics card. Even expensive business laptops often come without a card that can handle games.

I’d go for anything with a 970m in it so you’ll be good for a few years.

Between msi, gigabyte, asus, sager/clevo among others, there’s plenty of choice at the moment, depending how portable you need to be.

Edit: Sorry I just realised this might be over your budget. Actually the new dell inspiron seems to be excellent value for money given its performance – has a 960m I believe and can be had for around £700.

My 2 year old HP Envy will run GW (and most games) at decent frame rates on medium settings, but then it only has to power a 1600×900 screen. I use it for WvW without any problems.

The Envy series aren’t cheap though, and they weigh a ton. And you pretty much have to keep it plugged in, because it will only last about an hour when gaming.

My Lenovo Y50 runs GW2 pretty well, and it was only $900 on Newegg. GW2 is really not a very difficult game to run on a halfway decent laptop.

I main Ele and Necro, though I have an alt of each profession at level 80.

You need serious power for GW2.

As a reference, my HTPC with an i5-4690S can only get 30 FPS on low-med settings.

For a laptop, you will HAVE to make sure you get a quad core i7, and a dedicated GPU. A mobile i5 will keep you around 20 fps tops.

I’m going to guess that no laptop you can get at a store will be sufficient eh?

The limiting factor is the power supply. I overclock the gpu on my three years old MacBook Pro for gw2 under Windows 8.1. However, the 85w power supply will throttle down when too many things happening on the screen. Another issue is heat. Recently I got motherboard replacement under Apple Care.

My three year old Lenovo y500 with SLI 650m’s runs GW2 great. I get above 60fps in most areas and can even get playable frame rates in EotM. This is at 1080 resolution, as well. Not sure if it’s still $900, which you could probably find a better deal for that price now, but it’s definitely a good benchmark.

One foot out the door, yet again.

OP, how much money are you willing to spend? Do you have size/“on-the-go” portability concerns, or just general travel/away from home? How are your needs for battery life? There are some seriously powerful gaming laptops out there, that will easily play on 60+ FPS on the higher settings, but they’re often very pricey and don’t hold a charge well due to the power consumption of the hardware.

The following list is on the high-end for what’s out there. The more performance-oriented you go, the better the performance overall and into other games.

For sheer performance, check out the Origin EON15-X, or ASUS’s ROG line. These have the best reputations for reliability and are built to last you several years.

For something in the middle between performance and portability, consider the 2015 Razer Blade; older models had many more problems. Razer’s customer support and RMA processes are absolutely dreadful, though, and their QC lately has been flaky. If you get a good one, awesome. If not, you’re in for a rough ride.

If you need to be constantly on the go and need decent battery life, try the Surface Book/SP4 with the dedicated GPU. For demands for 60 FPS, though, I feel like this isn’t what you’re looking for, particularly since getting that 60 frames will be difficult to do on the higher settings and the screen size is smaller, despite the massive screen resolution.

I have used gaming laptops for the last decade, so keep that in mind when I make this suggestion.

It is hard to beat a base model i3 Alienware Alpha for the price, particularly when you catch it on one of the regular sales. Plug it into any modern TV and game— at a friend’s house, at a hotel, wherever— just game. I get about 45 FPS on high settings, It boots up in 5 seconds, and it cost me $380 out of pocket (after rewards points and credit card incentives). It is steady at 55+ FPS at medium settings.

The biggest issue though is that the cooling on this micro PC is so much better than a laptop. After an hour of gaming you will notice the difference compared to a gaming laptop.

I would ignore anyone saying you need an i7, particularly the mobile versions. An i3 with the higher single/dual core performance will beat most mobile i7 processors for this game— sorry but those extra cores are useless for GW2. An i3 at 3.2 to 3.9 ghz is the sweet spot for this game.

Correct in that increasing core count will not increase performance of this game in a vacuum. Core clock speed is what really matters, though it does matter if you run more than just GW2 and another application or two.

Again, it depends heavily on the laptop. ASUS’s ROG line has the best cooling on the market. Mine from around five years ago still can play the game on near-max at above 60 frames except blobs in WvW, and it never goes above a few degrees above idle temperature in the process.

It all comes downs to your budget.

If you have an unlimited budget, no reason you can’t get a laptop with a Full-Desktop-Grade GTX980.
You’ll be able to do 4k 60+ FPS with (almost) eveything maxed. =w=

Something like a Clevo P870DM which cost a mere 4,000 Euros. =w=

I am playing on a Asus X75V with soso spec. I bought it a year ago for only ~$400, and I wasn’t buying it to play gw2. Just a cheap general purpose NB. My gw2 PC’s graphic card burned out, so I wasn’t really buying anther game machine after. Until HOT, I try on the NB and it seems to work… more or less…

This NB at default graphic setting gives me ~10FPS. With low graphic setting it’s about 20FPS. XD My PC at work can run > 60 FPS, so I used it to do some hard JP or achievement. With 10 FPS it’s hard to do JP and you feel like space work. And you won’t see many red aoe circle till too late. But 20FPS seems to be ok. Just that everyone else on screen wears the same red armors XD So yeah you can try to buy a NB around $800+ and have a better (hopefully double) performance than mine.

If you want to run the game at playable rate, pretty much any new laptop (even with integrated graphics cards) will do the trick.

If you want to max out the game on the highest settings, look for a gaming laptop with a GTX 970M or better, and at least a mid grade i5. You can probably get one for under $1000, I recommend Clevo / MSI.
