Larger Party size?
Not sure what game you played with 8 max party. Most games tend to use 5-6 in my experience and very few have regular parties with more than that. Usually anything over that is considered a raid group.
Yeah, I would love to have larger party size too. In FFXI, you can form alliance, which is 2x or 3x parties get together to form a max 18 (3 × 6) player party. Maybe we can have new dungeons or difficulty lvl that require that many people to tackle?
It’d be nice to have bigger groups capability. But there’s so much about 5-man parties that still isn’t working right…. I won’t hold my breath.
Well to name the two principal games I play/ed with 8 person normal max they would both be by NCSoft/Anet and are —-
Guild Wars 1 and
City of Heroes (recently murdered by NCSoft)
So apparently Anet does know how to do 8 person. And City had Leagues for big events / instanced missions that spanned 4 × 8 person teams – those were epic and great.
EDIT: And just how will they implement one of my favorite features from GW1 – Heros – with the small max party size. Perhaps my favorite thing to do in GW1 was design Heroway teams and duo with another player and his fab 3 to tackle almost anything. And GW1 had some 12 person superteam instanced events too.

I hope they NEVER add heroes/henchmen to GW2. That was one of the most annoying things ever, in my opinion and the main thing that kept me away from GW1 so much.
However, considering they don’t consider GW1 an MMO (but instead an RPG thing that I can’t remember the acronym for) I highly doubt we’ll see them as it would defeat the purpose of an actual MMO (which is of course, to do things with other people).
Corpg is the term they used.
Group size in explorable open world should limitless imo.
Then when you enter an instance, only first 5 can join.
Oh, might as well have guild, members automatically show up as orange dots whether grouped or not.
Or something like what commander can do, but actually see where squad members are like you can currently see party members.
ive been in parties of 9 and in command channel (bunch of parties like a raid) of 200+ for pvp and for pve, or for PvP to be able to PvE the raid.
they choosed five because of dungeons apparently, and since you dont need a party to anything else…then yeah thats the answer why you cant even make a bigger party or have a command channel, and no squad from commanders dont count
I would love to be able to do smaller ones too for dungeons. I usually run around in parties of 3 – 4 on the grid.
failure is still a monumental success, assuming
losses remain within acceptable parameters.
They really need to take limits out of the party sizes entirely and change the group events to scale down as well as up (requiring 5 per group event is the same as requiring people to be in a specific party size for dungeons)
Adventurers in these fantasy worlds would definitely NOT be standing around saying “Do we got five people yet?” “No bob come back in an hour when so n so shows up” “oh alright!”
Why in the world would that still be used as a mechanic in a game that’s supposed to be breaking the use of tradition limitations or mechanics in mmo’s ??? Make these monsters have a base set of scores for one person to fight them and then let those scale the more people that get involved.
Make dungeons the same way. You have the tech already it shouldn’t be that difficult.
