Legendary Ice Shaman Lornar, the guy in the Snowstorm Fractal. You can perfectly circlestrafe his icy breath, take no damage while the rest of the group dies and still be the worst player.

It is not important where a player dies, it is more important where he goes down.

So true.

LOL – LOL

It brings back memories (bad ones) Instead of backing off from the ice breath, some people like to run circle around him while cutting him with their daggers or axe and let him spray his bad breath onto the entire party.

Edit: Hey, lets do COE P2, I can make sure I am the last person standing by sending exploding robots to my team mates! I am awesome!!

I’m a front line person on all 8 classes who also usually has the bulk or a major part of the aggro. I also do a lot of in-combat revives, boons, and condition removals.

When I say, as I sometimes do, that I am the last one standing – it also comes with the above in mind. Often I manage to live to reset a fight, even one I was “tanking”.

If you managed to never have aggro, and are still the last one standing – then we can start talking. That might have been because you weren’t doing your part anyway, or it might have been circumstance. Even in that scenario we need more facts.

Last Person standing on my Zerker Warrior=Be impressed.

Last person standing on my Guardian = LOL Yeah, that’s a given.

Seriously though, have you ever tried doing all the dungeons with +4 Guardians. All a balanced mid-support/mid-dps setup? I have….Its ridiculously easy and broken.

We can face-tank most bosses, including Malrona the spider in TA, Frost in CM was particularly easy, and even Arah, Giganticus wasn’t facetankable but, we felt way more in control than before. Like, we weren’t really focusing or caring because we had so many backup blocks and heals to pop.

That’s the state of pve right now, Go heavy or go home. Unless you’re a mesmer in a lot of situations that is.

Zerker war also means you get 30times less aggro than a person with 3k armor. Not that impressive if nothing’s hitting you :P It just depends.

This thread is terrible, should we be racing to die first to see who is the ‘best’ player on the forums.

kill as fast as you can without dying, that’s how you play.

I once had a fractal party where everyone but me stayed at range for the entire freaking dungeon, thus leaving the pressure of mobs/bosses on me most of the time. I don’t recall what happened exactly, but somehow I ended on my kitten for 5-6 seconds while the rest of my party, all full hp, watched me die. When later I told them about their reaction being too slow (or rather non-existant), the guardian answered " don’t complain, you are the worst player. Nobody ever died but you ".

At that point I decided to play exactly like said guardian (I’m a guardian too), pulled out a scepter and played at 900 range the whole time. We finished the dungeon quite slowly but without too much hassle. By the end, I had the least amount of deaths

Tl;dr: No. When playing the blame game, the strongest/weakest members of a party are to be analyzed on a case by case basis. If you play as a guardian and always stay at 900 range (thus having little to no pressure on you, doing laughable damage) don’t talk trash on others when they go down, they’re probably better players than you are.

I would assume that’s the case but, you’d be surprised how often Boss’ target me with 2.5k armor, meaning I can only lose their focus by running away.

I think it really depends on the team setup and the boss. My necro has 2.8k armor and when she run in the gate room in cof p1, the mobs from other 3 domes will run to her right after spawn even she didn’t hit them with anything. And most boss will target her the whole time. Unless there’s guardian with PTV in group then I’ll have an easier time.

But I also noticed when fighting Lupi, it’ll usually target my warrior guidie, although I’m not sure what armor he uses.

not necessarily, mob aggro works in strage ways in this game since there are no tanks or threat modifier skills, mobs tend to usually go for the player with the most toughness. If that a warrior its usually the 1st character to go down. Some mobs like to go after the ranged characters 1st.

I used to think it was all about toughness, and I still agree it mostly is but, I’ve had occasions where the aggro works the opposite way… I think there’s some calculator of base survivability or something? and that dictates? But I don’t know

It depends a lot on circumstances.

This. Without context of the fight, it’s impossible to tell. But I will say this: if someone claims they are the best in the part because they were the last standing, I usually immediately assume they contributed the least to the fight and spent their entire time trying to avoid taking while putting out minimal offense, letting their teammates (who were trying to play both offensive and defensively) die first.

But truthfully, it could go either way so you’d have to see the fight to know. Did they put out as much damage as their peers while still managing to stay alive and be the last man standing? Then they are the best in the team. Did they roll around like an idiot and do 1/4 the damage of their teammates cause they were too focused on “OMG RUN RUN RUN RUN YAAAAAY IM THE LAST ONE STANDING!”? Then no, they suck at GW2 and need to consider practicing a whole lot more.

Indeed, it is but a half-truth that aggro goes for Toughness. You should only avoid Toughness if it doesn’t work for your build, not “to avoid agro”, which includes many other factors besides Toughness.

Well if you’re running with a group of glass canons that 2.5k would be high. If you ran with our guild, even our ranged only people have several hundred more armor than you. I think the lowest in the group when we were talking about it during fractals last night was 2.9k, most were over 3.0k.

You can have 3.0k armor and be the soft one in the group if everyone else is topping 3.1k to 3.3k.

THAT said, our current aggro fiend was in fact the guy with the 2.9k… and so we’ve been talking about this a lot. For the past two nights sets of dungeons, he’s been a mob favorite and all our heavy armor protector types spend the run chasing after our engineer, or reviving him…

(But this new… in the past this guy could stand on the boss’s head and not get aggro.)
