Last time you visited Southsun Cove.
a few days ago. I like turtles and karkas.
…I like turtles..
to answer your question: yesterday at daily Mining Run with guild

It’s probably been about 6 weeks or so.
Just yesterday, to farm blood from skelks.
Yesterday for a Guild Bounty.
I have been there a bit recently – killed some karka’s for veteran daily, tried to complete the jumping puzzle, been there twice for guild bounty.
Couple of days ago for farming, but prior to that I only showed up once when it was just added to the game, and another few times for random farming/missions and the JPs.
Planning to go there more often for farming, but I can’t say I like the the place too much.
once.. at launch..
once.. at launch..Zero reason for me to go there (for my time spent)…
once.. at launch..Zero reason for me to go there (for my time spent)…They pooped the bed on that zone and know it.. Happens. Good news is you can fix it, not like it has to stay static..
When they turned off the rich ori node.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro
Whenever i want to get some gold quickly.
Been there pretty much every day for the past 2 1/2 weeks.
don’t worry. the flame and frost event will most likely add a city to southsun cove as well as a giant turtle boss.
I visit it pretty much every day. Miningruns.

What’s a Southsun Cove?
First Light Gaming [DAWN] – PvX OCEANIC COMMUNITY – BLACKGATE

Haven’t been there since I figured out I could farm enough money elsewhere to buy ~30 shells in the time it took to farm one. single. shell.
I will likely not be back.
Besides, going there reminds me of the atrocity that was the lore around the whole Lost Shores fiasco.
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon
I can’t stand the place. Spend all that time on a veteran karka to have absolutely nothing drop. That is if you don’t aggro 3 others from 4 miles away and die before you kill the first one twice.
I went there a couple of days ago.
The Consortium mentioned they were building this swell housing for the Flame and Frost refugees in Southsun Cove.
I liked the ideas of refugees sunning themselves on that nice beachfront location after all they’ve been through.
I thought I’d check it out, and saw no such construction.
Instead, I saw a beast ridden deathtrap… viscious barracudas in the waters, ravenous skelks patrolling the shores, and hellish karka waiting to claw/pinch you to shreds.
Beware the Consortium, they are a bunch of liars.
I go there regularly after remembering: “Aren’t there three Orichalcum nodes and two Ancient Wood nodes?” . . . and remembering I can generally hit them without much trouble from Karka.
Reef Riders? Can go die in a fire.
Last month, I think… farming its sea-life for armored scales. Yes, it’d have been easier to buy them.
Stormbluff Isle ( http://www.stormbluffisle.com )
Back when shells were 9 silver each, now @ 5, to quote the centaurs “not worth the effort”.
Thanks to guild bounties, I go there at least 1-2 times a week now.
Not much there, however, since the Rich Ori was turned off. Still a couple ori and ancient wood nodes though. Nice if you are farming that stuff. Along with the mithril and elder wood.
Never been there, to be honest I have never heard of it before, I suppose I need to hop out of wvw & sPvP more often to look at other stuff lol.

Yesterday. Very easy jumping puzzle that can be done in a minute.

Every day to mine.
I built a reflect mezzie specifically to hunt karka kiddies. She can actually kill young karka fast enough that I collect more shells/potent blood than I could buy with gold earned in the same amount of time.
Right now karka shells sell for 5-6 silver. In a single omnomberry bar’s 30 minutes, she’ll collect 10-15 of them, 2-3 potent blood, and around another 30-40 silver or so in drops. It’s the only thing I’ve come up with that’s even in the same zip code as CoF speed runs in terms of making money, and unlike CoF, I don’t need to be in an optimum group (course…when you are in an optimum group, it blows karka hunting out of the water for making money)
But here’s my body – So rez me maybe?
if they added a karka boss that spawns like the dragons it would breathe more life into the place

^ That isn’t a bad idea really.
Saturday. My guild keeps rolling Ander!
never been there
Even if they added a bunch of events to that map I’m not sure if I would do them. They really need to change the mobs. The normal mobs there have an insane initial attack that you have to dodge or else you’re down to 50%, and the veteran mobs have two sets of HP.
They’re worse than Dredge.

I haven’t been there since the Karka event.
But thats because none of my characters were level 80. I’m only just now getting characters to level 80 (my first one was 2 weeks ago and I’m now working on getting the last of my 5 original alts to 80). So I really couldn’t go there even if I wanted to.
I’m actually pretty excited to go back, I really dig the scenery of the place if nothing else.
I used to visit daily for the rich ori node. Haven’t been there since.
i’m tentatively excited about the talk of refugee housing popping up there as part of the living story. Its a cool place, aesthetically, and it would awesome to see the place populated with people, events and a world boss.
Last time was a few days ago on my (at the time) lvl 55 ranger.
I wanted that Reef Drake. Wanted it bad. And I got it! Woot!
Took like an hour, tons of scouting/sneaking, and probably half a dozen deaths.. but I gots it!
For a PvE environment, I tend to enjoy it. Seems to be more difficult than other lvl 80 zones and I do think the rewards should reflect that. Some people seem to get more loot there than other places, but my experience has been different. I dont PvE much though, beyond leveling, so its entirely possible I am doing it wrong.

NEVER FORGET
It’s been a while, but I’ve been intending to go back for powerful blood farming with a couple guildies. Farmed for a little more than an hour with a nice German lady a few weeks ago, got about a dozen powerfuls, double that in shells, nearly a hundred potents and good trash besides.
Plus Karka are fun as hell to fight. Unlike some, I enjoy needing to pay attention to the game and getting some fun out of farming rather than rolling over everything.
2 months ago to do the skipping stones jumping puzzle. Not much else other than that interests me there.

A few hours ago.
Lately I’ve been needing some passion fruit so I’ve been hitting that area. Mithral and elder trees have also been on my list and that place has plenty as well as a couple orchalcum and ancient nodes.
I visit it everyday. Easy JP for a chance for some nice items. Already got a rare now and then, even an Exotic once. A friend of mine even got Harpoon Gun precursor from the same chest…. Sometimes I do the skipping stones JP as well, takes max 5 minutes
Then I go to the big open field south of the Karka Hive, it’s full with Mithrill and Cypress Saplings, sometimes even Orichalcum and Ancient saplings. It’s a shame Anet removed the Rich Orichalcum Node, but it’s still the best place in my eyes to get the Daily Gatherer quick.
In the meantime I also kill some young karka. They are excellent for certain dailies such as daily evader, daily conditioner, etc etc…
Southsun Cove really has some use
Smough The Cruel [WvW] – Warrior
(edited by Riselight.3695)
i went there about 5-7 times, cant really remember wen the last time was…
I personally decided that until I find something that is at least as challenging as the first pull of Avicara out of Droks I’m not bothering to visit it unless it’s required for something (in which case I complete the zone fast and abandon it).
Southsun cover? No “mob teams” with proper class combos and good skill builds, simply an empty land filled with random mobs with 1 CC and 1 bursty skill.
That Avicara team would clean the whole zone easily.
Avicara 1 Southsun Cove 0, game set match.
I’ll stick do dungeons until Anet decides to make the open world end-zones hard.
I don’t even care for rewards, I want a challenge. Challenge is the fundament of gaming.
I’m visiting it every week to find Karka for the guild bounty.
I go there once a day if I remember to get the JP chest from the easiest JP in the game. Also grab some passion fruit while I’m there.
Just today to find my ori nodes and I’ll probably go back to farm karka shells to make apothecary weapons to sell on the TP for gold.
Its the most sensible thing to do to make gold.
Used to go often for the rich node, but no longer since it’s removal. Went there two weeks ago with my 80-guard, killed ~20 vet karka, got 1 drop of junk meat and one mastercraft weap, not enough to cover 1pc of armor repair after getting ganked from 2 adds (seemed to glitch). I have no plans to ever return. Seems like a half finished area.
Anyone else every notice that the ground says NORMAL on it in certain spots? Is that supposed to be there?
Everyday, 10 mins, kill 5-6 karkas along the way to pearl islet for 1-2 karka shell or powerful blood, under new management jp, loot chest at champion skelk, port back to LA.
Repeat next day.
I stopped going when the rich ori node was removed. When it was there, I just logged in on alts, farmed the ori, and logged in on another char.
I visited said island about once a week.
It’s the best place to get the vials of potent blood and only place to get karka shells.
The mobs are ridiculous until you learn how to face roll them. As soon as the karka start to shoot at you interrupt or better reflect the damage and they are toast. Reflecting their projectile does sometimes over half their health in damage. Ele use staff earth 3 to reflect or interrupt with air 3. Mesmers use feedback on the projectile and hunters just faceroll.
Haven’t been there in probably a couple of months now.
The smaller Karka and other creatures aren’t too much of a hassle, but there are far too many Veteran Karka if you venture inland, and giving them two health bars was just lazy game design. Each veteran is as tough as a mainland champion, if not tougher.
Maybe the idea was to promote group play, but with nothing else to attract people, the sheer lack of mob diversity and the overall difficulty associated with a large proportion of mobs, it’s no wonder people just can’t be bothered going there.
Therefore I may take some time replying to you.
I stopped going when the new stuff came out. I don’t feel I have any business being there now that it is for those Big Guild people.
