Hi, hope this is the right place for this.

Has anyone spent 5 laurels on getting a gear box? Is it worth spending on?

I play a warrior which has just reached level 80 and am wondering if it’s worth using, or whether I should save up.

save up for ascended rings or amulet. Exotic weapons or armor (if you were to obtain those, but i heard it gives yellows) are easily obtainable by simple gold, while the ascended stuff not.

No. I have spent I think 15 and have got 6 lvl 78-80 rares. That is a monthly and 5 days (which was about 5 days of extra work this month) or 15 days and I made probably 1.2g

Imo, they should give 1 exotic and you should get to pick more than the “class” box as my “warrior” boxes kept giving me cleric’s gear. The guardian box I got gave me a berserker gear….

It’s a gamble box. The only way that it could be worth it is if you get lucky with the RNG. So, do you feel lucky?

Those boxes that state for specific class just means that it will be armor that your class can wear (example, Warrior box will not have Medium or light armor in it), and it will have weapons you can use (example, Guardian box will not have rifles or pistols in it).

But yeah, those boxes are just another RNG gamble, with very high chances of getting something you do not want.

I figured as much. I could see myself getting a succession of warhorns, maces and boots.

If you have absolutely no or very few rares, than I think it’s worth it.

If you’re halfway or more with rares, probably not such a great gamble. I may use them for ecto-salvaging somewhere down the line, but right now I’m not that desperate.

I see the gear boxes as something to get once you’ve gotten all the other laurel rewards you want, so the don’t become completely pointless after a few months.

Not something to get early on when you’ve still got other items to save for.

You can get 6x 80 rare armor in 3 Arah runs which takes maybe two hours. Just ask some friends to carry you.

Save your laurels for ascended.

I bought one for my ranger as he was leveling. At the time he was level 40 so I figured it might be a good way to gear him up at 80. This was not the case. I got two rares from the boxes and by the time my ranger actually hit 80 I had enough tokens/ karma/ gold to gear up with stats I wanted in full exotics. With multiple weapons sets as well. If you were guarenteed exotics and only had to gamble on zerkers/ cleric/ whatever else, then maybe. However as currently implemented there are much better and more efficient ways to get level gear.

What ascended gear should I aim to get?

Warrior, rifle primary, greatsword secondary (been advised to change to axe/shield) not got my level 80 armour/weapons yet, but looking at Knight or Berserker armour with Dolyak or Soldier runes.

When you buy your ascended items, get the minis… then we still get rares and a chance at exotics for just doing the daily… I’d say that’s worth it.

Even when all is said and done, there’s good stuff to look forward to.

Take a look back when you were leveling towards 80, this is not a endgame mechanic for you to get garunteed what you want. It’s meant to help you gear your character, not make it get you “end game” gear.

If you want to gear your character beyond rare stuff, you should go for ascended gear. Instead of spending 3-5g for a amulet you can get it for free, yes for free. Just enjoy the game and you will have it eventually.

Back to topic, everything can’t be about end game. New players/casual players should have a easier way to get some rare equipment. Sure they are only 30-40 silver each, but thats more free stuff than we got when leveling up.

Just my opinion about the boxes, think of them as help for new players not the ones that allready has it all.

No the fact that they can be two rares totally negates the 5 laurels you waste, RNG on everything is just bad mechanics..

two level 80 exotics would equal 5 days of dailies, not two rares…

Dont think of them as gear boxes. If you are already geared up and theres nothing you want to save laurels for, then think of them more as ecto boxes.

the gear boxes are more for when you’ve already gotten the ascended stuff :P

Not really worth it, unless you wanna salvage for ecto. How sad is that!? I just bought my first one last night for a new Guardian. I got 2 rares, one of them a 1H sword I won’t use (wrong stats and I use GS/Staff), and the other a pair of boots with 2 out fo 3 stats okay.

So I logged in my Armorcrafter and made a suit of rares for myself. I could have bought dye’s instead, and had a better chance at getting something valuable.

Get 10 unidentified dyes instead and sell them at Black Lion’s; For the gold you can buy the item you need

When I didn’t have a lot of gold and before I got my Karma armor, I did buy a few of these. However the variety wasn’t enough to completely outfit my character and the silver I got from the pieces I didn’t use was like 30s for each rare piece (this tells you how long ago that happened). Out of the four or five boxes I bought I never got an exotic.

If you are looking for gold from laurels, the 10 unidentified dyes is probably the most profitable.

And BTW, I recently bought the puppy (a million of Fractal players cried out and were suddenly silenced).
