Laurels. Thoughts?
Having considered my opinion on Laurels for some time, I have changed my mind.
I think they are a clever, sure-fire way to get people (who choose to do the dailies/monthlies) a reward purely for time played.
Why no back pieces? in laurel vendors?
In all of this discussion…this is the only good question/point.
Now if anyone can tell me what the kitten the upgrade slot takes….I’d be a happy kitten

The upgrade slots on the ascended gear? Infusions.

Just make sure that you buy the ascended item with the correct slot type for the type of infusion you want (meaning if you want to slot 20% gold find into your amulet, make sure you buy the amulet with a Utility slot).
edit: Keep in mind that the top of the page forgets to mention that infusions can also be purchased from the Laurel merchants now.

no…the back piece :P
Unless I’m misunderstanding, at the end of your post you asked a question about upgrade slots. Ascended gear accept infusions in their upgrade slots. All of them. Including the back pieces.
You are misunderstanding…as I have said, I meant the back piece…period. Never found anything I could apply to the upgrade slot. It was a bit off topic, and a random joke. But still what I meant

ah, you mean the non-ascended backpieces? It takes the same upgrades as jewellery pieces – it just needs to be viable for backpiece’s level. That last part is important – some backpieces are considered to be level 1 equipment, so only basic tier 1 unjewelled gems are compatible with them.

Hey, I am not an extremely active player, except on weekends. I was just wondering if the laurel armor sets were any good. I cannot afford to do dungeons often, and this daily currency thing seems really appealing!
The biggest issue I have with this:
1 -it’s per account rather than per character.
Anyone who has more than one toon is given a big fat middle-finger by ANet.2 – you have no real choice in what shows up on your dailies or monthlies. Don’t like them, tough.
3 – you have no way to do multiples on one toon or one account if you happen to have the time. At least in the other titles ANet scoffs at, you can do as many dailies as you want.
This is nothing but artificial kitten-blocking.
Well, I think that is ok, because on the flipside people who do not wish to play multiple characters would feel left behind.
Why would they feel left behind? If they are only interested in playing 1 character, why would they feel left behind when someone is playing more then 1 character? What does it matter if someone is gearing up 1 character or gearing up more then 1 character? Seriously, your comment above makes absolutely zero sense, there is zero logic in it.
The issue I think is that while it seems like a good way to allow every player to work on his gear in whatever way they please, in practice it feels like a chore that must be done daily for several weeks, just to get something that actually affects your gameplay.

Thanks for that reply. I realize this in’t the place…and I was mostly joking, but clears it up.
Thanks again
laurels are fine as a currency that you “cannot farm nor buy”.
its a controlled progression as in anet can limit the speed at which hardcore players will grt their new gear.
i like it as is, you re rewarded “in time, eventually” for playing the game routinely.
my problem is…
the dailies.
why make them like a job ?
i cannot enjoy the content as much with the daily pressure.
if anet wants us to “play how we would like to” then the dailies should require only a certain amount of xp.
since you can earn xp however you want its the best solution.
now,
regarding the “go back to lower zones issue”.
i suggest to implement new “super events”, dungeon difficulty type of events, that you could start in the open world, once you have a certain amount of players who “sign up” at the event.
ex;
theres a lion guard at hatari hinterland waiting for 20 players to “sign up”.
once the rooster is filled, theres a zone warning and one of the centaur camp turns into a hardcore area with dungeon difficult type beasts and centaur boss.
maybe the way to start the “super event” could be different, but it could work.
I don’t like the current implemation of the daily achievment and laurels. Guild Wars 2 was a game that I didn’t feel like I had to log into every day. I could play when I wanted for as little or as long as I wanted. Now I feel required to log in every day to finish the daily achievment. Every day that I miss the achievment I miss out on a laurel which puts me one day farther from top stat gear. I often only have a limited amount of time in the day to play video games and it’s upsetting that in this “grindless game” I find myself grinding a daily every single day in order to keep up with gear in this game where “you dont have to grind for gear”. If Arena.net wants to implement currency like laurels they should learn from Blizzards implementation of the model. Blizzard gives you the entire week to grind your 7 days worth of dungeon points. You can do it all in one day or spread it out as you see fit. I just don’t want to be forced to log in every day to grind for top stat gear in my grindless mmo where you don’t have to grind for gear.

The system was fine with exotics before. It took either some gold, some WvW play, or some dungeon running to get your gear, but it wasn’t a hastle. You got the best gear simply by playing the game the way you normally would. Now they’re basically adding a carrot-on-the-stick and everyone is eating it up. Ascended gear serves no purpose but to trick you into playing more. If you enjoyed playing the game before, then you gain nothing from Ascended gear except potentially being forced to go out of your way and spend many hours (over time) doing things you wouldn’t have normally wanted to do. If you didn’t enjoy the game before (bored post 80), then Ascended gear is for you because it’s always easier as a developer to add grind than it is to add content or make a game more enjoyable.
The reason they gave for adding Ascended gear was to give players something to work for between exotic/legendary gear. In other words, it’s intentionally forcing you to grind to get the best gear, just so that some people won’t get bored.
ArenaNet, you won’t keep people by adding more and more carrots; you’re not WoW. If people get bored with the game then you need to make the game more fun, not adding grind in place of it, which is what almost every MMO has done before you, and which you promised not to do.

This exactly.
Its funny how not even 1 Anet’s staff thought of weekly laurels lol!
Simple logic – Not everyone could log in every single day of the week.
