So first let me say that I am having a hard time understanding the new system and the initial gw2 hype. I remember a video that said player A plays everyday while player B doesn’t and in wvw the player who plays the longest won’t have an advantage only better looking gear. After coming back from a break I notice I am already behind and that others who have been playing longer are already getting an advantage because they did their daily’s and monthly’s. Will there be better more accessible ways for the casual player to get the best gear in the future or will the rest of the ascended armor and weapons be on the same system where the player that logs in the most days and does their daily’s and monthly’s gets the advantage?

This also eats at me in the sense that I need to do something. I need to log in and focus on my daily’s. It is a mental road block for me. I can’t just do what ever I want to get the best gear the way I am seeing it. Someone told me in game that it’s only 30 minutes worth of work to get it out of the way and I cringed at the word work.

I still have a lot of fun with this game from time to time but I don’t ever see myself getting the best gear stat wise in this game as it would take me 30 days to get one new ascended item and am concerned for the way I’d like to play the game. This is my first post ever and honestly tried looking for a current thread similar to this but might have missed it.

Sounds like this is how YOU feel about your self but not base on true fact. If you do not have the new items your still not that far behind any one because of the skill that comes into play the game. Now you are behind in that department because you simply have not played in some time. Rolling well time skills and combos are things that take time to get a hold of. Things like combos seems out side of the skill for a lot of players back when a daily was combo finisher every one got confused about how to do a combo in the first places. Items has nothing to do with it too it was just ppl want to look into game play.
Please get off your cross your not focused to do any thing or at least no one is focusing you to do any thing but your own self.
Its easy to complain about something but to look at what your problem is takes a great deal more. Most like from what i read in your post its your own feeling that you must deal with before dealing with the game (that you have NO power over).

Considering a casual gamer plays about 8 hours a week, the best gear level is completely achieveable for them, at least in terms of stats. Most of the sink in this game comes from character customization (skins, legendarys etc). Obviously, if you go away for months without playing, you won’t be able to do that. The monthly is quite easy to get as well. I completed mine in the first 3 days, but had to wait two days until I had 5 daily achievements. Im not a casual gamer, but I have 7 character classes kitted with the best stats possible, but if your a casual gamer Id recommend sticking to one character and just working on gear acquisition with them. The Laurels were introduced so that the best gear was something that could be acquired by more people because not everyone can or wants to do FoTM.

What do you like to do when you play? You may be surprised at how much of the daily you get done without trying.

Also, you seem to be upset that “I need to do something.” Surely you misspoke, because it sounds like you want to get the best gear by just logging into the game.

In short, this game has become a lot like wow. if you like grinding dungeons, you get the best gear. if you like to wvw only, you get the worst.

I don’t know what to say other than I don’t find it fun to do either fotm or daily’s and monthly’s as the only way to get the best gear. Not when playing launch it was crafting, karma, badges, gold, tokens, and regular old rng. I still have a blast in spvp I guess I’ll hide in there. Was only a mental road block for me needing to log in everyday to make sure I got my laurel otherwise I put myself behind. That’s just not for me I suppose no matter how easy it is. It’s me needing to do daily’s 30 days for one piece of gear. Not to mention if I want to play a different build I need a whole different set. I guess it was inevitable considering people were grinding launch way too fast and Anet needed to slow it down.

It realty has not the major thing that keep this game form ever becoming WoW like is the fact that you can roll and preform combos. There is a level of skill that you do not need in WoW to play.

Then again, Ascended is supposed to be a grind. It was an attempt to fill a “gap” between Exotics and Legendary, and it was meant to help sate the hardcore grinders while still being accessible to casual players. Unfortunately, it doesn’t do either of those things in its current form: too much grind for casuals, and too little for any hardcore player.

Er, got a source for that stat, or is it completely made up off the top of your head? I’m pretty sure that not every casual player plays 8 hours a week, and not every casual player has time to log in 30-60 minutes every day for a month.

But that’s what they’re expected to do, to get a single piece of Ascended gear. That’s 3 full months just for two rings and an amulet. And I can only see it being worse for armor when that comes out. So….sorry, the existing model doesn’t sound very “casual” to me at all.

Now one could argue that casuals “don’t deserve” it if they’re not willing to “work for it” (feel free to do so if you feel that way, I don’t care either way). But I think if the entire point is truly to make the gear obtainable for casual players, it should actually take into account the fact that not all of them are able to log in every single day for multiple months just to spec out a single character. I think it’s a bit unreasonable, myself.

I am 30 years old, clumsy at the controls, and a causal gamer with work and school…
YET
I can play a little, and I survive most fights, and I have lvl 80 dungeon gear, and the new ascended amulet.

If you feel bad for lacking skill, I am worse…

but still I have all this stuff… so what does that tell you?

Yes I didn’t mean it like that. For me it is looking down the road and if ascended gear and weapons are put on the same system where you can only get 1 laurel a day and need to wait the other however many days, the player who did the most daily’s and monthly’s gets the edge. Personally I can’t play everyday and when I do get to play I like to play anywhere from 4-8 hours so I won’t be getting 30 laurels anytime soon. Not too big a deal I guess. I just thought the games best stat wise gear wouldn’t be so restrictive in saying “Do this for 30 days and you get this”

Yeah, Anet changed their mind. The original plan they sold us on was horizontal progression, but to please some hardcores that consumed content like locusts, they hastily added vertical progression in November. Luckily it’s only accessories at this stage, so you’re not too far behind, but expect to see ascended armor & weapons in the future.

That you’re not a casual gamer.

I work two jobs myself, and GW2 usually gets what free time I have. But I still wouldn’t call myself a “casual” gamer by any stretch of the term, because I’ve logged quite a few hours by this point, and I still find time to play almost every day.

Lemme make it simple for you: if you’ve owned the game since the official release date and have logged 350+ hours into this game, you are not casual. Why? Because that’s just over 2 hours a day on average, or 14 hours a week….that’s not “casual”, that’s almost creeping into part-time job territory. >_>

You do not have to grind any thing for the “best” gear you just have to do daily from time to time. Where you need 10+ in WoW to get good gear you need 1 person to get your “good” gear. So ya there is a major difference now if you want every thing NOW then that more on your then the game for getting gear and playing out the fable grind that you so love to use (dat buzz word).

ascended gear has anywhere from +8 to +15% higher stats than do exotics.
