“According to a report from GameSpot today, “Guild Wars 2’s” developer NCsoft will shortly begin to layoff workers who work at internal publishing."

then why all of a sudden are you pasting on your home page that you are hiring when in fact you are laying off workers?

Because NCSoft and Anet are seperate entities.

First of all lay offs post launch are very normal in the industry (it takes less people to support than it does to develop). Secondly NCsoft is not ANet any how.

NCsoft has been struggling as a whole for a long while and this is very well known in the industry. ANet though seems to be doing just fine as far as the posted numbers from last quarter seem to indicate. I don’t see how any layoffs in NCsoft would diminish the support for GW2 as they don’t appear to have anything to do with ANet.

Golemancy 101: total and complete catastrophic
failure is still a monumental success, assuming
losses remain within acceptable parameters.

Silly Ursan. NcSoft are reducing staff in their Seattle office NcWest. And Arenanet are part of NcWest and Seattle is where Arenanet is from. Check this link instead:

In case you don’t believe Arenanet is part of NcWest:

Also… doesn’t it make sense that the publishing part of production of the game will have wound way down now, three months after launch? “Publishing” is a specific part of the process, as are the specific jobs being hired for right now.

We have another long thread on this, maybe a couple.

NCSoft has closed down and parted out some of their game offerings for NA/EU. Downsizing makes sense.

It’s not about Guildwars.

Yes, Anet falls under the umbrella of NCSoft West but they are still separate entities, with separate offices.

NCSoft West is located at Seattle.

Arenanet is located in Bellevue.

ncsoft west owns carbine (currently development wildstar) and arenanet (guild wars), they owned Paragon (city of heros) which was closed and shut down.
ncsoft west is practically a publisher for ncsoft korea, which currently manage lineage and aion, they have development teams too, while two developing lineage and aion, another one is working in blade and soul.

if you think gw2 is the only reason why ncsoft is getting money you are delusional, even now the cash shop from lineage 2 and aion still makes revenue not to even mention what happens in korea with these games which in fact aion is still popular, they still have enough money and market to develop another game in the west (wildstar) and to bring another korean release (blade and soul)

i dont know why you wold even care what happens if a guy gets fired in x company which you have absolutely nothing to do, ncsoft west is practically done with gw2 regarding to publisher, they probably going to focus in wildstar and blade and soul because thats what they do, publishing, and even now in korea theres development for another two or three games.

without anet there is no gw2 as same without paragon there is no city of heros, if ncsoft west change their publisher team, has nothing to do with gw2 because they are practically done with it, same with aion, lineage 1, lineage 2, gw1 etc.

I took an arrow to the knee

Separate offices yes….but Arenanet is definitely part of NcSoft and not a separate entity. For GW1 NcSoft was only the publisher of the game but now Anet are actually incorporated into NcSoft. They are not separate.

The article also asks the question whether or to which extent this will affect support for GW2 as this is unknown.

Anything on that level is pure speculation. But Anet is no longer separate from NcSoft for years now.

I suppose my original post was meant to say, “The two companies have completely different functions and most likely have separate and independent HR departments and I doubt the firing of employees in one company really affects the hiring of employees in the other.”

However, Guild Wars 2’s real developer, ArenaNet, is hiring.

While we are indeed a wholly-owned subsidiary of Korea-based NCsoft Corporation (read NCsoft HQ), we are also our own entity. ArenaNet has not been affected by the NCwest realignment. And indeed, we are hiring: http://www.arena.net/jobs/
