I don’t like it but that’s my opinion.

PvP is based on Wins/Losses, while it should be more based on kills/deaths…
Now you can’t pug anymore because in pug group people leave all the time anyway.

Plus if it doesn’t reset, weekly/monthly then a new player will never be able to get in the list anyway.

I expected more from the leaderboards ; /

Um…what is there to discuss? They really don’t say much of anything about your character let alone others unless I’m missing something. The three sections are:

Achievement numbers
sPvP – win/loss ration
WvW – servers

Honestly in my opinion (and granted, it is just my opinion) they didn’t provide much information based on what they have available. Let’s say I just focus on WvW for now. I don’t join sPvP games and I really don’t care about achiement score. The only data that is available to me is what has already been by another portal. It doesn’t break anything down that I really care about.

It doesn’t tell me how my character stacks up against others. It doesn’t tell me the number of times I’ve died, it doesn’t say how much supply I used, or what siege I built. It doesn’t tell me how many keeps I assulted, supply mules I slaughtered, etc. It really doesn’t say anything of the sort let alone my rank.

I know this is all future stuff or so they say but this was done before back in 2001 via DaOC. Live weekly leader boards for players, character, class, realm points, alliance, guild, etc. This isn’t like we are trying to land on mars and thinking it is a one way trip…

Anyway, it is a start and glad they did it. For me, it isn’t anything earth shattering

The winning part is actually the point of spvp. killing is just a byproduct of trying to get your team wins. maybe now that people se this they will try and get their teams wins now as opposed to just fighting 1v1’s off to the side and doing nothing to help their team.

It doesn’t really matter. Again, it doesn’t really provide any useful information on guilds let alone players.

Let me ask a simple question. Based on the portal release how do you know how you compare to say another “insert class here”? Lets say you play a guardian. Don’t you want to know how many kills, deaths, or anything else for that matter you did vs. others?

There should be a top 25 weekly, monthly, for each class. Then add in ranks for all active players. Then fun things like biggest hit, fall deaths, deaths in general, kills, kill streak, etc. The database probably already has it – if not, easy to add.

There is that danger I agree, but I saw another thread on this where everyone was pouring scorn on the whole achievement system, so there is a good chance most people will just ignore it as a means to judge others, with some will taking it in a jovial spirit and only a tiny minority will use it to grief other players.

I guess ill put in my two cents here.

First the achievements leaderboards counts points earned via dailys and monthlys which really sucks for those people who didnt get the game since launch. Would really like to see the achievement leaderboards count all achievement points earned except for dailys and monthlys. I would love to hear why they decided to include daily and monthly achievement points in this leaderboard. Usually theres a good reason why the designers make the decisions that they do but with anet i find myself scratching my head more than usual. Maybe im just spoiled by trion’s openness with rift and defiance, idk.

tpvp leaderboards are finally here but we’re not sure what the rating is actually based on. It could be as simple as win/loss, or complex like a combination of win/loss and kills/deaths and objectives captured. without understanding how our ratings are affected each game this leaderboard is useless. we dont need to know exactly how this formula works but just a little bit of transperancy here would be appreciated. i really hope the rating is determined entirely on win/loss and not a combination of win/loss and other things

nothing new about wvw leaderboards…

EDIT: forgot to mention that tpvp still pits solo queuers with full on premades. another reason this leaderboard is useless. i think splitting the queues should have been done first, just my opinion

hahahahaha people in this game complain a lot. I love this game, but what would bother me about leaderboard is if its a team-effort thing instead of an individual thing. like I myself played these many games and got these many top player awards, or if its a team thing then its o I won this many tournies vs I lost these many. I cant be blamed for getting partnered up with newbs, or w.e the reason may be.

I meant our ratings should go up or down depending on the outcome of the match and not what was done during the match like capturing points or kills. i guess i should have elaborated a little on that. determining ranking entirely on win/loss ratio would be really bad lol. people would just play 10 games with a premade, win all 10 times, and never play a tpvp match ever again after that

What may be important to you is not always what is important to everyone else. Such as Twilight movie I consider a total waste of money and hurts society then benefits. Does that mean my opinion is more important then someone else’s? No it wouldn’t as long as it does not directly effect me. My girlfriend loves twilight but as long as she doesn’t force me to watch it or anything similar to it they can keep making the movies.

I am a competitive player and love to see where I stand on the leaderboards. Such as when Command and Conquer comes out I will be playing it to no end just to make sure I stay on top. If the game is too easy I do not find that it can offer me anything to learn from.

Why would that matter? You can’t base it off of pure win/loss percentage, otherwise if I won my first match, I’d just stop and have 100% win rate.

It has to be a win/loss ratio mixed with amount of games actually played to mean anything.

So in sPvP, people will now leave the match before the timer goes off if their team is about to lose. This will force the auto-balancing and those on the winning team will get pushed to the losing team and get a loss assuming they too don’t leave as well.

This is just my initial impression so it may or may not be realistic.

It needs to be a combination of everything since doing kill/death would not be effective because wins are gotten by capping points, not pvping.

Good for you son, you sure did take things out of context. AN could have worked on something far more important than this such as a lfg tool which I’m sure they already have people working on it but what about event leaderboards? To see whose the top player that put in the most effort. Or a improved black lion market? Being able to separate armours would be nice amongst other things as well. Personally I would love an improved achievement panel, being able to compare and inspect other players would be just great. I’m not even going to think about profession imbalance. Now I said it was a waste of time but I don’t hate it; just saying other things have priority over it.

Good!

While I never expect to be in the top 100 of anything as I simply dont have the time to devote to compete with people that do their daily every day or play non stop in wvw 8 hours a day.

It would however be nice to see where I stand in relation to everyone else.

I don’t think the spvp stuff is that good, it should be based on personal performance not team performance…. it is after all a personal ranking so why base it off of a team criteria? That makes no sense to me.

Achievement points IS a good gauge of a players skill level, mainly because it means more time spent in the game = more time to hone your skills. My best experience with pugs is usually people who have at least 4-5k achievements. Having said that, I’m not saying people under that amount, people are always noobs/bad players but it is an excellent instant guage of a players skill level.

I’m not sure that is true. Apart from the easy grinds, a highly skilled player can be out achieved by someone with a lot of alts who has done all aspects of the story. If achievements were purely skileld based, then yes I’d agree totally, but most are grinds/luck/purchased – (emperor title for eg) based.

They don’t really bother me mind as they don’t interfere with the game atm. I just find them oddly irrelevant to the way the game works. If people like them, then fair play

I’m not saying every high achievement point person is an instant pro, but time spent has a cloe relation to skill in the game. (think of it as being more experienced, in a job if you’ve been working 10 yrs, you’ll be more experienced then someone on the job for only half a year?).

Of course, there are bad apples out there, some players don’t really learn as fast as other players. So even if he had higher ach points, another new player with a faster learning curve may still be better than him. Ultimately, it’s just a good “general” guage of player skill with just a simple glance.

Experience and skill in some respects rarely go hand-in-hand (members of parliament for eg are often very experienced yet utterly unskilled at their job), but I grant you, yes as an experience gauger, I can see how it would a good judge on that score. For what use that would be in the pve or living world scenarios, I still remain unenlightened.

Again, this is not me having a dig at them, I’m genuinely curious what use people will find from a pve leaderboard. I read the blog post and it was devoid of any real detail on that score.
