Q:

From forum posts and YouTube vids, it seems the Logitech G600 is a pretty good, wired, mmo gaming mouse.

My Razer Naga has deteriorated (after 4 years) so looking at the Logitech.
I really want to get away from the Razer Synapse software and the G600 seems like a good fit.

And Amazon and NewEgg are selling the G600 fro $30 less than List.

So my questions…
1. Do you use on-board memory profiles or computer-based? Why?
2. Is the ring-click really troublesome? Is yours Active or Disabled? What bind – Dodge, maybe?

Just your thoughts. Thanks.

A:

I’ve been using the G600 for about 5 months now, and I love it. Granted, it’s the first gaming mouse I’ve used, but after only a few weeks, I noticed a huge leap in my control performance. I still hit the occasional wrong button on both keyboard and mouse, but it’s better than when I had to totally change my hand position to reach a key, then try to return to initial position (left side). I have all my 6-10 skills mapped to side buttons along with M, F, R, Z (look behind), X (about face), I, and H. Totally using the ring click (third mouse button or “G-Shift”) as dodge. Even set wheel click to F12, and the extra top button to B. I haven’t saved any profiles that I’m not using, and I used the Logitech software to set them on the onboard memory.

I don’t particularly like the 600, but that’s due to how I hold my mouse. I pinch with my thumb and pinky, which results in all those little buttons getting mashed. My husband seems to like it though, but I don’t know how he has his binds set.

I did enjoy my 700 for a while, but the on-board profiles can be buggy (which I only found out after the fact). I had to save my profiles to my machine in order for my binds to work (and the rest of my system not go completely haywire on me).

I swapped to a G503 recently, and I enjoy being able to adjust the weight of it. I have my strafes bound to G4 and G5 (because I mouse move). I don’t have dodge bound as yet

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I love my G600. Switched from not one but two iterations of Naga that wore out, and I haven’t looked back.

The new Naga is even better than the old naga, the non-thumb buttons are positioned better. But I’d be hard pressed to swap out, unless the G600 has smooth scrolling…

Use G500S personally and tbh the amount of buttons on the 600 is way more than you would ever need for GW2 (g500s got 3 buttons on the left side, and 2 on the top along the left side as well (close to where you would hold you finger on the LMB as well) and then a tiltable mousewheel.
Im having heal and elite on the side buttons and then dodge i have to tilt my mousewheel to the right (ie move my left finger to press on the left side of the wheel), is all i need tbh
For the software (AFAIK all logitech products use the same software) at least for the G500s there is a lot more options for each profile (both in term of things like acceleration, different X and Y axis velocity(cant find the right word right now xD), but even more so in terms of mapping the buttons) and a lot more profiles possible as well when using the ones stored on the computer

Not sure what exactly what ring-click is

I have jump, F, show names, weapon swap, sheath/unsheathe, dodge, walk, look behind, and F4 all bound to my thumb. Three buttons and two on top wouldn’t do it.

@Lanfear, good to hear that the G600 is not suited to small, dainty hands. I went by TigerDirect to check the size, but those folks are closing their stores! What!
And thank you for the confirmation about on-board profile. One video said they were buggy.

@GummiBear, the ring-click is the finger finger button. Some people say it is troublesome, but I hope it might be useful.
Also my right pinky has nothing to do; just waving in the wind. What about that?

FYI, I ordered the G600 from Amazon. 2-day delivery. Can’t Wait.

Just an update for anyone interested.

Ordered the G600 from Amazon Tuesday at 3:15pm
Received it this morning at 10:15am.
And Free Shipping, too!
I just love Amazon Prime!

Also I dusted off my Logitech G13 and am matching/adjusting profiles.
A little tricksy, but working fine so far.

Except for messaging I think I can eliminate the keyboard entirely and I get the joystick for moving (combined with mouse, of course).

lol not sure where you got ‘small and dainty’ from. I have rather large hands for a female, with long fingers. Generally speaking I find most mice too small for me hand size, though that’s not why I hold my mouse with my thumb and pinky fingers, and entirely to with the fact that I regularly lift my mouse off my desk to reposition lol.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Three things to keep in mind:

  • Your mileage will vary: mice are very much an individual preference, affected by the size of your hands, your ‘reach’ (how far you can spread them comfortably), manual dexterity, and how many buttons your right-hand is comfortable negotiating.
  • After acquisition, it can take two to eight weeks to get used to it. Give yourself a little while to get comfortable with the shape (where possible, consider adjust shape or weight). Then take some time to learn the customizations: what keystrokes can be mapped to which buttons. Ask others how they do it and take what you like, throw away the rest.
  • After you ‘perfect’ your setup the first time, take another look and see if there’s something you missed or don’t like. If often takes people a few weeks of using it to realize that there are still more options.

Put another way, don’t believe anyone’s review of comfort or utility; that varies. (Do consider comments about reliability or quirks.)

I switched from a Razer Naga. I have large hands, and the bigger mouse design of the G600 was amazing! I have a GW2 profile setup on mine with each button doing what I need it to. The ring button is my burst while the 6 button is my dodge since I use healing signet and never pop it. It’s a great mouse and it’s a steal at that price. You can make profiles for each character if you want, as you can switch profiles as needed. Like, on my guardian the ring button is my dodge and 6 is my heal.

When I first started using my razer mouse I thought 17 buttons was ridiculous – now I want at least 2 more but 4 would be better. Oh and I don’t use that synapse software because my computer doesn’t like it for some reason.

I have the G600 for over 3 years now. The left button started double-clicking, so I claimed warranty just before it ended. It was painless, they gave me a new G600.

Anyways, I probably use 7-8 thumb buttons. Putting the f1-f4 on the thumb is pretty much mandatory to me. Other than that, I would have preferred less buttons since I think the mouse is a little bit bigger for my taste.

@Kal Spiro, yea, I like Newegg.com too, but there is no New Egg store 3 miles from me where I can check hardware before buying online.

Anyways, Tiger Direct is closing their storefronts and will be strictly online.
That leaves only Best Buy, Walmart, Staples etc. to get emergency hardware.

Again, Thank Goodness for Amazon Prime! ha!

Have to echo this. I’ve used the G500S since I first got GW2 (2 years or so ago now). Plenty of buttons on it for options if you aren’t sure about the thumb-board on the G600. I couldn’t ever get used to it because, like a couple others here, I have a rather tight thumb grip on the mouse when playing. The buttons on the G500S are up and out of the way slightly, but still easily accessible.

However, if you have no issue with the thumb-board, go for the G600, it certainly offers more options in that respect. I’m just a big fan of the G500S because it has a decent number of key options, without going full thumb-board.

Wow, your Naga lasted 4 years. Mine only lasted 6 months which is why I ended up switching to the G600. I liked the Naga a little better I think but will never buy another Razer product again. It just felt a little better and the button placement was more ideal. However, the G600 is still really good and will likely just take a little adjustment to.

I got a G600 for this game a bit before release, so it’s nearly 3 years old now.

It took a bit to get used to the “g-shift” (ring finger clicker) because I had to change my grip style to not randomly hit it, but I really like it. I have it bound to AoE loot because I mainly play WvW, tapping it regularly without interrupting my other fingers from combat/movement, also there’s no danger of pressing it by by accident wasting a skill or dodge.

I don’t use the onboard memory function, I might if there I had limited memory issues or something but I’ve never even tried it. The software isn’t fantastic but it works.

Hats off to all the ones who stood before me, and taught a fool to ride.

Thought I’d chime in here! I love my G600. I have the first 9 thumb buttons bound for skills 1-9, the bottom left thumb button for weapon swap, and F1-4 are set up for use with the G shift (makes ele attunement swap so effortless). I can’t reliably reach the last two thumb buttons, so I don’t use them at all. My elite is bound on my keyboard because I can’t choose a mouse button that feels right.

The negative: sometimes the G shift binds simply won’t work. This happened with my first G600. It’s a real bummer when your attunements are bound that way and fail to swap! From my research, it appears to just be a defect, and Logitech will happily replace it under warranty (mine was a gift and I was unable to obtain proof of purchase). I just purchased a second one and have not yet had that problem. They’re only about $40 on Amazon now, so definitely look there if you’re interested! ($80 in stores).

Did you contact Razer about it? I tend to no think it was within warrantee, but it might have been, and they might have been able to do something about it anyway. I got my Naga to play SWTOR before GW2 released, so I’ve been using it since then. The only thing that’s happened to it in that time is that the pads I super glued to the thumb buttons have started falling off.

once you go g600 you don’t go back and the number of features it has in comparison to the naga for the same price makes the naga a pretty terrible choice imo.

i have dodge, weapon swap, f1-f4, about face, and 6-0 on the thumb buttons. I don’t feel a need to use g-shift but if you did you could get all the buttons you’d ever need on there. I also use a claw grip which was weird at first but i got used to it. you don’t need to fully palm it. the other thing is it is heavy for daily mouse use. I have two plugged in and use a cheapy claw grip mouse when not gaming.

only thing I would recommend is that you not get it in white. After about a year-year and half it has gotten a bit yellow and it is hard to clean.

I’ve had my G600 for quite a while now and I cannot see any other mouse replacing it. It is a superb mouse. Not just because of all the buttons, but the feel of it is just right. The weight is right and the shape and design of all the buttons is right.

I used to have the old naga razar, and it was a good mouse, but the shape of the G600’s side buttons (indented into two easy to feel for groups of 6 buttons) and its extra g-shift button next to the normal right click makes it a far superior mouse.

The build quality is great, it is certainly built to last. And just to add testament to that, I have been disconnecting it and taking it to a friends house once every week, for the past few years, and it is still in excellent condition. Regarding the profiles, I have used both onboard and pc based, and both work fine.

As to the buttons, I use the side buttons for my weapon skills, utility skills and profession skills. The g-shift button (which I have changed in the profile manager to one of the keyboard keys) I use for jump, as I use space for dodge.

The G600 is easily the best mouse I have ever bought and do not regret spending more than most gaming mice for it. If it ever breaks, I will get another one in a heartbeat.

Simplicity is complex.

Good feedback is key to getting the developers to listen to you.

Ok,time for an update. heeh.
Reconnected my G13 game pad and created new commands for the G600.
Two loops thru Silverwastes convinces me that I will be staying PvE until body-memory clicks the right buttons. A day or two, right?

With 29 programmable buttons on the G13 (not counting shifts) and 20 on the G600 (or 38+Gshift) there may almost options be enough to get by.
I set the keyboard aside during game play. Don’t need it atm (Mumble in WvW).

Thanks for all the help, folks. You’ve been a great help!
Cheers.

Quoting this just to add that I have a rather odd setup for my PC, and I have tripped over the mouse cable and sent it flying to the ground on MANY occasions with no problems afterward.

…not that I advise dropping or throwing it.
