Leather Chest Pieces
Probably just a lack of creativity in that department. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut when in design mode. Still a bit odd no one noticed it and said something before launch…
Maybe someday they will add new outfits we can actually get in game instead of the gem store. They may create more diverse options by then. idk.
The pirate coats, as I politely call them have been mentioned before but that was about a year and a half ago when a change was begged for but never was made.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
Yeah every coat makes my engineer look like I am a pirate of sorts. Not very engineer/thief/ranger like at all
If you’ve got a male character and you don’t want a trench coat/buttcape/skirt/something that covers your whole mid-section, then you’re out of luck with medium armor. I’ve said it before and I’ll probably say it again — there is literally one shirt type medium chest piece for males in this game, and that is charr T3.

It’s not a lack of creativity. It seems to be their guideline.
Just like Female light armor can’t get a simple pair of pants (not tights) without a skirt attached to it.
We complained for 2 years, I think they got the message. They just don’t give a kitten.

Pirate ? I would be ok with pirate .. i even bought the pirates captains outfit.
For me those trenchcoat looks more like beeing a cowboy.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
I was a little disappointed when I saw the “new” pvp tournament medium armour presented with the comment “notice it’s not a coat”. I know it wasn’t meant in a bad way.
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
Well, GW1 had the same thing. I think it is based on that. All Ranger armor was based on trench coats.
They are not ALL coats, but I do agree there is an over-abundance of them…..like 85%.
Fate is just the weight of circumstances

There are a few which aren’t coats, and some which aren’t so noticeable because it’s just a bit down the back.
But your choices are limited. I find medium armor is the one where I’m least likely to like a full set and end up mixing and matching to get a look that works for me.

Nup, the upper and lower body armor pieces are seamed together at a certain point, and that point varies between armor weights. The medium armor’s seam was placed at a point above the hips where an overcoat would flare out, rather than on the hips where the top of a pair of pants would sit. That’s why those few armors that aren’t overcoats are either shirts which bulge out over the seam or bare-midriff.

why do 90% of leggings look like dresses or parts of dresses? (even the male versions)
it’s a style thing.

Yeah, they’ve got creativity, so I’m inclined to accept this explanation.

There was far more variation in GW1 for rangers. In prophecies it was pretty equal for males with 3 out of 11 sets being trench coat-like, 4 being more like tights with no buttcape and nothing covering the front, and the other 4 sets having the infamous buttcape. With the expansions, trench coats actually became less and less common. Lets not forget obsidian armor – the “endgame” prestige armor – that has no coat or buttcape to speak of, and it looks awesome! I really wish there was something like that for males in GW2.

I am also a ranger in GW1 and don’t have a trench/pirate/skirt as a medium armor male, there are so many more choices of armor in GW1 than in GW2. I find the GW1 armors for all classes far superior to that of GW2.

I have asked myself this since release…. I roll Charr (pretty much only charr). There is ONE chest piece I can Think of that is not a coat for Charr mediuim….. Cultural T3.
And my main wears medium armour……….

After counting the Ranger armors in GW1, there are only 10 trench coats in total. 7 male and 3 female.
We need ALL the GW1 armors brought in and added to GW2.
Lady Alexis Hawk – Main – Necromancer
Ravion Hawk – Warrior
What really gets me is that every chest piece has to hang low below the waist, I loved the assassin armor in gw1 and that’s more of what I picture my thief in. I’m not saying I would never wear a coat, but I’ve pretty much exhausted my taste for coats after two years of just coats.
I know there are a few non coats, but they still hang below the waist in a weird/feminine sort of way. i.e. Duelist isn’t a coat, but it looks like I’m wearing a skirt.

I approve this.
While I never purchased EotN and any armor added from it’s release on, there were a LOT of great armor sets in GW1.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
