Like many people I know, I’ve decided to leave the game. Guild Wars 2 has the potential to be the most amazing MMO ever made, but there are a few flaws which for me completely ruin the experience.

First, what I love about the game:

1. The graphics, animations, and sounds are just mind-blowing. It’s obvious that a great deal of creativity and love went in to the fine craftsmanship that’s evident everywhere I’ve travelled.

2. I love the various quests that I’ve done — both personal story missions as well as the DEs.

3. I’ve tried out each one of the professions, and the combat for all of them is fun.

Now, what’s driving me away:

1. Diminishing returns on loot. This literally incentivizes NOT playing the game. I understand that Arena.Net has to put in measures to prevent inflation, but diminishing returns makes playing the game for any span of time completely unrewarding.

2. The dungeons are death-fests that don’t reward smart play and smart builds. Instead, they seem to be designed to make sure that players die a lot — no matter what — to incur high repair bills.

3. The +healing attribute has incredibly poor scaling on abilities. One of the things that I love to do in MMOs (and in single player games) is to design characters that are basically Immortal: very low DPS but basically unkillable. The strategy is to wait for mobs to die of old age. I especially like to do this with pure magic users. This is unfortunately not possible, and it’s mostly due to the extremely low coefficients for +healing, especially self-healing. Guild Wars 2 was marketed with a message that characters could be built in any way that the player wants, but the truth is that really there’s only one way: just enough survivability through Vitality and Toughness, and then stacking damage.

I sincerely hope that Arena.Net reads this and other posts like it, and gives players what they are asking for. I for one would gladly pay a $100/month subscription for an MMO if it gave me gameplay that I enjoyed.

Anet should have a section for goodbyes, or just merge them all into one gigantic tear.

Finally a thread with some legitimate complaints that isn’t obviously inflammatory. Hopefully ANet fixes up the game to make it enjoyable for you again.

The diminishing returns has been confirmed as not working as intended.

Dungeons are likely to be tweaked as there are a ton of complaints that are all valid, so watch for updates!

Completely agreed about the diminishing returns systems (primarily the loot and DE ones, NOT the dungeon one that we already know is not working properly). If something isn’t done I too will probably have to stop playing, despite my incredible desire not to.

I love GW2 but putting in a system that punishes players for…playing the game is very anti-player and very anti-fun. It needs to be removed ASAP before more people dump the game because of it.

Also, in regards to inflation, I would much rather they lower the overall drop rate of items that are causing inflation than to simply implement a system that penalizes everyone for trying to play.

Edit: And to those that think it’s fine because it’s getting rid of bots, think again: bots are not affected by the DR systems at all right now, because they are using speed and teleport hacking to get around them entirely.

Check back often for any news and updates! The game is yours, no sub fees, so you can hop in anytime you feel the urge!

Keep in mind the game is reaching its one month mark and things are being worked out. Everyone must understand that they do not have a limitless group of employees to work on each thing. The employees are working weekends, holidays, overtime to try and get things worked out. It takes time, so we all need to give them time.

Thanks for the constructive post.

It’s always good to take a break now and then. Hope to see you back here some day!

I’ll be doing the same pretty soon, just so I don’t bored of the game.

Hmmm. This game was never meant to be WoW or function the way that WoW does. I am glad about that. Healing and just about every other aspect of this game is different and again I am glad. I do share your concern over the loot thing and I hope some changes are made there too. It’s a free to play game so why not just hang around for the things that you do like and wait for some changes to be made? It sure beats having to play WoW or EQ2 or whatever and have to pay a sub. I hope you change your mind as it’s early days and things will improve.

sounds like the dungeons did a number on you. did you wanna play a healer? cuz this isnt the game for it. dungeons are skill-based, and they certainly do reward unique builds. also, how can u leave a b2p title? you enjoyed it for 4 weeks, so u definitely got your money’s worth.

OP, you are right-on. Your number 1, 2, and 3 are the exact flaws that are disappointing many mature mmo enthusiasts, especially those that appreciate something rewarding, personal and distinguishing for their more challenging achievements and accomplishments.

Aside from that, it is unfortunate that GW2 seems to favor those that appreciate sameness; favoring those that are disgruntled at mechanics of other games that provide rewards and a slight advantage to other players/participants based on their effort, when they feel as though they should have been rewarded because someone else accomplished something they couldn’t or didn’t at the time.

Best of luck.

play the way you want to play….

no…not that way……is that gold you’re making? that’s not how it’s supposed to be used! put that sword down!!!!

you won’t miss it mate, not in it’s current form. The farewell and good riddance brigade are just fanboying it up so ignore them, they’re Anet rear cleaners who don’t understand pride in being a gamer or a consumer. Some folk will realise their magic beans are just pieces of rabbit dung and still bury them anyways and scream “grow!!” at them every evening due to misguided belief.
me? I believe what I see, and I don’t like what I see either, but I’m stubborn so I’ll stick around longer.

Also, I love how the internet tough guys show up claiming people are crying, do you go up to angry and irate ripped off customers in the high street when something goes wrong or awry and laugh at their face and tell em to stop crying? cos honestly, I hope you start doing it you’ll be overjoyed with the responses you’ll get, and the hospital bills if you aren’t in a country with free healthcare.

Irony…. xD

@Hellkaiser – Generalize much?

This is what happens when you express YOUR OPINION in an internet forum. You get differing opinions and some of them aren’t kindly worded.

Hellkaiser, you obviously didn’t read what anyone said. I didn’t see where anyone said good riddance. You are the only one who brought in a negitive post.

The rest I did not see as mocking.

Knock it off, you’re not fooling anyone. The majority of the early posts in this thread are “good riddance” posts. Sad that all it takes is some passive-aggressive wording and some smile emoticons to keep the mods at bay.

thank you folks it’s nice to see there’s a community that will jump in and reiterate what’s needed and call it like it is,

Yes, those were good riddance posts. passive aggressive and they add very little to what should be simply “sorry to see you go”

But I had best not rely on the kindness and common sense of strangers, I’m a big boy and likewise I have opinions I can share in similar manners to the thinly veiled good riddance posters.

@Crewthief:
It seems you didn’t say anything thinly veiled at him or snarky, if that’s the case why get so defensive? clearly it wasn’t aimed at you? keep up the good work, the community should always be full of decent folk as yourself, perhaps you need to be told that a little more, you seem to be paranoid about being misunderstood xD

@daemonlama:
If someone saying “hey it’s a b2p, you got a month out of it” isn’t being a bit of a troll and negative, then god help you you’ve no idea how people like that operate. Or should I instead point to makiloks post that these should all be one big tear, just to note if anyone is generalising much it’s him and his ilk, kindly give them a
gw2 headstart welcome with me

“GO BACK TO PANDALAND!”

but those are just the obvious ones, which can’t be misinterpreted

I think you’re all a bunch of kittens

see? I could be literally saying you’re all cute and cuddly creatures
OR
I could just be calling you all something obscene and smiling at you, there is NO sarcasm font sadly. I do hope that the one or two silly good riddance posts were all i was really getting at, but one or two good riddance posts is one or two too many.
If the mods really wanna sort it out, simply ask that we post in a specific section, not to combine them into one big tear, but so that you can make a thread that no one can post in to patronise them or antagonise them and thus can remain as valid rationale and feedback/data

Irony…. xD

Lol ok I gotta admit I busted out laughing.

Op has valid points though, I agree with him/her. Hopefully there’s enough cosmetic carrots to keep me playing as far as PVE goes.

About your negative points…
I agree on 1), but this has already been recognized as NOT working as intended and will be fixed. For 2), well… learn to play issue? Confirmed by your 3) where you expect to play some kind of WoW “blood DK” or other tank spec, which doesn’t exist in this game.
Basically, you’re right on one point, there’s a problem, acknowledge by the developers and being fixed… and on the two others, you just failed to adapt to a game which is totally different from the holy trinity mentality of EQ/WoW clones.

Korrigan:

1: they claimed the DUNGEON anti farming tech was not working, people are being reduced while NOT having run the dungeon. There was no mention of the overworld anti farming tech.

2:trash can one shot you, no matter what you play, which doesn’t indicate a learn to play issue, he didn’t build glasscannon and probably tried to stack toughness or healing etc to help survival and instead realised it’s pointless because toughness aint worth jack if you die in one shot and go downstate, and healing is pointless because it’s scaling is horrendous which is last time I checked, a fact.
which brings us to your response in
3:adapt, which so far has resulted in “go ranged or go home” which means they’ve just replaced “hey I swung a sword xinfinity” with “hey i shot a gun/arrow” that’s not innovation. I’ve stated before, you shouldn’t adapt to what is in the list of top 10 mistakes for amateur rpg designers lists ie: don’t give your monsters idiotic stats and huge hp pools and think it constitutes a “challenge”

Cheese mechanics are NOT a challenge they do not test your skill, they test your patience and they are lazy design.

Irony…. xD
