Let me know if I’m wrong – this is just an FYI to those who are thinking about doing the legendary journey’s.

I’ve been an advocate for doing the journey when the prices were about 100-200 gold cheaper than the precursor (like 2 weeks ago), but I’m mainly speaking for the Legend and for all the wood mats. As soon as decided that I would finally start this journey since I’ve saved a ton of mats and gold, I initially started calculating how much it would take to do the first two recipes that cost the most. Well, it was already over 600 with current market prices given you don’t have any mats. With the rest of the journey still to complete (and still needing those spirit wood planks), the whole journey would probably cost more than the precursor AND you actually had to spend hours of your time doing things around Tyria when you might as well had just bought it straight off TP. At this point, I’m going to just sell my current mats and easily just buy it off of TP (on top of saving your tokens and karma).

What do you guys think for those who plan on or are currently trying the journey’s? Is there a precursor that isn’t affected as much due to the mat inflations? I was sad to hear that the Legend was heavily affected…

Carcharias, Venom and Frenzy are all quite affordable.
Off-hands also seem to require fewer mats

If you dont have the mats saved up and are not willing to wait, then you are in a bidding war with everyone else who is trying to do the same. I personally find the collections fun and they have taken me to different places that I don’t usually go and have convinced me that I don’t hate fractals as much as I thought.

In a somewhat related note – if soft wood logs can clear out the remaining supply between current price of 4s18c and 4s40c, there doesn’t look to be too much supply overhead and these things could temporarily go parabolic (until people catch on and farm them en masse). Already gone from 200k supply listing down to 39k listings in a week.

The point of collections is to give you an actual non rng sourced way to acquire a precursor, whether or not its cheap is irrelevant. Thats entirely up to how you choose to go about it. Now if anet decided that hey a crafted precursor should require 1000 icy runestones then yea thats a ridiculous gold sink and obviously not worth it. You can always go out and farm the mats to save on costs, its not about getting it as fast as you can thats the whole point of this new method. Its to actually give you something to work on.

I say what needs to be said, get used to it.

farming gold and buying one is less time consuming, depending on precursor much cheaper AND doesnt rely on rng too.

I understand that, which is why I had worded my sentences in a way that both scenario’s are actually NOT rng-related. Buying off of TP is technically not RNG, hence why I can sell the mats I acquired for the collection journey and just buy it off of TP straight as opposed to doing the journey (which I wanted to do for the experience AND to save some gold, which isn’t the case at the moment).

Essentially, I am technically working for the precursor off of TP with straight gold, as opposed to incremental. The “RNG” related scenario you described would be the case if my goal was to strictly grind mobs endlessly in hopes to get the precursor without use of any type of currency.

This is what I meant.

Except that you have a lot of RNG for the collections aswell.

Didn’t think about that.. but that is true as well… and for The Legend you gotta get lucky with getting crystallized by Shatterer lol. Looks like the decision is made for the Legend for whoever was thinking about it!

I feel like the cost should be cut or removed and have the difficulty/length of the collections doubled. That way the choice you have for obtaining your precursor is that of time vs money. Want it now? Money. Don’t mind waiting? Free.

I mean you still have quite the journey until you have all the mats for the legend itself anyway.

It’s still worth unlocking all of the volume one collections (or for the ones you’d truly be interested in eventually getting) so you gradually complete them as you play the game while waiting for prices to adjust.

Additionally, I would advocate Gifts being tradable.

It was never meant to be cheaper, just give a way that didnt involve grind to get the pre.
