Legality of Screenshots
I haven’t seen anything official but I would assume as long as you’re not making money from it and not passing it off as your own work/clearly labelling it as a screen shot taken in GW2 they wouldn’t have a problem with it.
I know they’ve recently been encouraging people to share their fan art on Facebook, and a while back they posted links to a gallery of GW1 screen shots someone had put together so I can’t imagine they’d object as long as you’re not doing something like putting up a screen shot on Facebook and letting people believe it’s a picture you created.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
If its for non commercial endevours Im 99.99% certain they wont have issues with it.
I would imagine they would appreciate any form of attention to the game. I would if it were my game.
Unfortunately, while I appreciate the feedback (and I thought much the same thing), I can’t consider it official unless someone responds to tell me. And, they may never do that.
Potentially you may get a faster response if you message them via twitter. It’s the sort of quick question they’d probably answer for you there
In my world of publishing, it’d totally fall into “fair use” of copyright, not even worth asking them about it.
In general, if it looks like fair use and there’s no money involved, the proper approach is to go forward, make sure you attribute to the original source, and it’ll be good.
Do you understand what fair use means? It’s part of the legal code to permit uses like described in the top post.
I think the answers you are looking for have been official for quite some time.
All part of the Content Terms of Use that comes with the asset kit.
Good luck with your site/guides :-)
Thanks. That’s exactly what I wanted to know, and I can consider that an official enough source not to be worried.
