Legendary Armor
Looks : 10/10
Utility : i’ll pass.
Since it has the same stats as ascended, it’s not really usefull or needed, and why would you want it when you have all those outfits ? To show that you’ve raided your kitten off ?
In the looks department, it’s pretty awesome though, i grant you that. It’s even more impressive then any legendary weapon.
Nah not realy, I like my own current look better ^^ But kinda cool with the moving parts on the gear.
It looks acceptable – in the “normal mode” – once you go in combat and it does that transformation at least to me it goes into “full joke mode” and I honestly am disappointed.
I hope there’s a way to keep it from going into that “in combat” mode – because I feel the normal one is decent enough. If there isn’t – it’s a real shame – but I’ll just reskin over it and call it a day.
A unique take. For those that are going for it by doing raid content it’s something to work for. But me personally I don’t think this will make me complete the raid more.
Restore that which was lost. And all shall be as one.”
I think its awesome! This makes me want to play a heavy armor character and actually go raiding so that I could maybe, possibly, in a few years hopefully, obtain it.
Can’t wait to see what the medium and light armor versions look like
Love the idea behind it.
I wont ever get it due to needing to get into raids, but I think they’ve done a decent job with it
Only thing I am sad about is that they did not preview the other races with it. Am still dreading seeing Asurans with their side toes sticking out….
It’s very cool… until tons of us running around looking the same :-(
For end-game players, this almost feels like the end of FashionWars. It would be a raid of 10 ppl that all look the same; kinda buzz-kill after a while. Just look at how common the Legendary Fractal Backpiece is. Even the PvP one isn’t all that rare anymore.
Imagine if they had the time/resources/money to do this:
All existing skins become animated when skinned to a legendary piece of armor. Fashion Wars carries on, and your previous skins now become AMAZEBALLZ. Basically, Legendary armor would unlock your skins ability to animate.
’course…. the cost to execute that from a dev standpoint………. nevvvvver going to happen, lol
I agree Zoe. But I’m sure some will skin over it just to have Legendary Armor for stat change in whatever armor they want

This is pretty much where I am.
I’m not a fan of raids, and the idea of grinding them for armor does not really appeal to me, especially since it’s the same stats as the ascended armor I’ve already crafted.
As far as looks go though, that seems to have been really well done, at least on the heavy armor. The idea of animated armor is a gem, and I hope that Anet can pull it off for all three classes or armor.
It will be neat to see it, but it is not something I’ll ever craft.
I hope there’s a way to keep it from going into that “in combat” mode
There is. It’s called “don’t enter combat”. :p
But on a more serious note, it looks kind of cool, and yet kind of bulky. Is that just the heavy armor version, or are there different ones for light and medium? How are they going to look? Will they have a similar gimmick of in-combat and out-of-combat looks as well?
i just hope the medium legendary armor doesnt plop out a trench coat when i enter combat…
Jokes aside it looks really nice and animations are something to look forward on armor.
PS: personally i always (in any game) go for crafting armor first, weapons 2nd. having 6 pieces of gear that you can change stats is far better than having only 1..but thats just me
Transformers err Tyrians roll out!
Not my particular cup of noodles, which is good since very unlikely that (as a very casual player) I would ever be able to acquire it. Would be not as happy if it had been something I really, really liked.
To those who like it, I am happy for you (genuinely) and wish you well on the acquisition path.
Definetely one of the better armors they have designed (like most heavies since release if you ask me).
yep would be cool if you could get a set that was animated and not tied to raids. raiders get this animated set, a diff legendary set for other content, that way raiders still feel special w/ the set that looks like this, rest of us can get our own legendary set for playing our modes
Yeah, definitely 10/10 in the “looks” dept. Its awesome. However, no matter how awesome it is, the amount of time and money spent to get it = you could probably buy a RL sports car with the money you are putting in….not to mention the stress of that much raiding….in GW2…yeah…
Now, when i say “money”: Take the time you’d spend doing the raids, preparing for the raids, handling all the nuance to the raids. Then, count those hours at $20 a piece. Next, take the time spent farming the non-raid components (keep in mind that due to DR, you’re gonna hafta have at least 3-4 toons leveled up for the task- might as well count this time too!), do the same, or do a round figure on the gem-to-gold transactions you’d do, to buy those mats off the TP.
Do you have to have a max-level crafter (or multiple crafters)? Might as well add that up too!
Finally, add all that up. How much is it?
I agree Zoe. But I’m sure some will skin over it just to have Legendary Armor for stat change in whatever armor they want
Yeah… but unless you can also swap Runes, being able to swap stats is only sorta-useful.
Usually you have to tie the two together for the correct build.
Looks: Awesome
Availability: Raids
Gated behind raids? nah…ill pass.
1/10
Love the idea and effort put into it but not fond of the aesthetic of the heavy armor and wouldn’t wear it.
But great idea.
The other issue regarding the armor would be if you wanted to mix’n’match (it’s an armor and not an outfit so…). Would a standalone piece of equipment change its appareance? Could you have transformer boots with otherwise scallywag (literally) armor? That would open a lot of nice possibilities, but I’m afraid Anet might simply pull “it only animates for the whole armor” stunt if they have [even worse] clipping problems than they already will (notice the guy on video had no backpacks and no shield of course).
Meh, not too hyped. As long as there’s enough people who enjoy it though, I can see how that design would appeal to others.
Its a really good concept and a great answer to the question of how to make legendary armor look special and unique without just turning you into a giant gaudy disco ball of effects. Which is what I was fearing would happen. I’m really glad they went this route instead, it’ll be much easier on the eye strain when you inevitably end up with dozens of players running around wearing it in any one place.
I could actually see myself using this sort of legendary armor. Of course, the amount of time and effort and the fact that its Raid-locked means that I won’t be using it regardless. I don’t like it THAT much. But its not something I dislike outright for being too over-the-top, like most of the other legendary stuff.
Meh, they have too many great designs and they failed to top them with this, my main is Guardian and now i have no reason to get heavy Legendary this is ugly..
I hope there’s a way to keep it from going into that “in combat” mode

It looks fine in “normal mode” – I just don’t want that combat mode thing forced on me because it makes the helm look bad.
The ear things that pop out of the side ruin it.
The visor that closes and everything else is fine.
The only thing I really feel are bad about it are the really really over the top big spikes that come from the shoulders and knees and those ear-like things that pop out of the helm.
They take something cool and do too much and push it into “too much” territory.
Not worth the effort since I don’t like raids. I also don’t like bulky stuff or buttcapes.
Normal mode looks good, combat mode is bleh. Luckily this is just the heavy armor version. Show us light and medium please!
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
Totally considering making a character named Optimus Prime, or Bumblebee
it’s soo ugly…. i don’t even know how they took 1 year for design this s**t , it’s like a kitten megazord….kitten

It takes time to develop a giant ugly buttcape that is animated to transform into an umbrella when you enter combat.
What I get from the complaints is, this armor is good, but not quite good enough for the effort. Part of it has to do with small parts or details that just make it silly or over the top. And while most of these complaints are centered around the shoulders or helmet, both parts you can opt to hide, or just replace with another skin entirely, maybe a better option would have been to release multiple legendary armor skins for each armor class. This way people can have a wider base to mix and match with and still have armor that moves together. Instead of running around without shoulders and a helmet. Or watching your armor go into battle porcupine mode while your re-skinned shoulders just lie flat.
I personally don’t understand the “it’s no better than ascended armor, so why bother” complaint though, since I’m willing to bet half or more commentors have a legendary weapon or two.

It cannot be too perfect.
If legendary armor become the end-all armor, then fashion war loses one of its main drive to keep people playing.

It is not that, but if it would be too good it would remove incentive to buy gemstore skins and outfits
I 100% hate the direction we’re going with legendary armor. I get that the armor is really only for a small percentage of the total community but for those of us in that community we get to look very similar to all our friends. Just like when ascended armor came out we would sport that look for a little while but eventually went back to making unique looks for our characters. Fashion Wars man! However, with the animation direction we’re going on the heavy armor when my friend and I load into a raid on his warrior and my guardian we are going to look very similar. Oh and Revs too assuming they get something adjusted in their machines to be needed in raids after last Tuesday. The animation direction would be awesome if we could skin over them and gain new animations for other skins in the wardrobe but I’m sure we can all understand the massive amount of work that would take for something so fantastic. Why did we not go in the direction for additional effects and/or Auras for legendary armor. That way we could still use the wardrobe and create even more unique looks for our characters. It’s the same reason people combine the queen bee, the polys, and infusions to create really unique characters. Than there’s still the question about runes but that’s a totally different issue. That’s my position anyways.
Heavy leg looks pretty awesome. Medium and light pre on males do not look appealing at all so I’m worried about those weights.

If you don’t like the look and transmute it, you lose the cooly “transformation” which is kinda what give you the “prestige”. I’m unique enough with my mix-n-match armor…never seen anyone else with my heavy armor combo…so my “uniqueness” quota is met…:)
I’ll pass myself…but the concept is very cool.
To those that really like and want it…Enjoy!
I can because I want to
I want to because you said I couldn’t
Wow, that is some seriously awesome armor!!!!! I would absolutely want it!
Unfortunately, I’ll never be able to get it because I’m a super-casualite gamer.
I like the idea behind it, but I’m pretty meh on the actual armor.
looks awesome, but gating it behind raids… really?
If it means putting up with build snobs then I’ll pass thanks.
it’s soo ugly…. i don’t even know how they took 1 year for design this s**t , it’s like a kitten megazord….kitten
I also find it rather ugly since I really dislike over-sized, bulky and spiky armor designs. I like armor versions in some other games, but I’ve pretty much given up hope on GW2 ever having armors or armor combinations that I like.
Functionality: 10/10 (assuming the armor includes a way to address rune swapping and such, otherwise, its significantly lower)
Looks: 1/10 (1 pt for the novelty of moving parts which is likely to wear off quickly)
Obtainability: 0/10 (gated by raids)
Not sold on the looks of it, but I have to say I do like the Transformer type mechanics of it, moving parts etc.
Not my style – at all. I’m too much of a hard realist, I guess. Although some of the (somewhat) more fantasy stuff I do like. Examples include the reclaimed weapon sets and a fairly large number of the cultural weaponry and armour (from various races, factions etc…) are also good. Like some people, I tend to mix and match armour, weaponry and such, to put together my own looks.
In the end, it boils down to personal aesthetics. Anet knows this, hence, the wide array of style in gear.

I can guarantee you that people who stack Queen Bee on top of Polychromatic infusion on top of Chak infusion on top of Ghostly infusion on top of Ad Infinitum on top of [insert shiny legendary weapon] have absolutely no concern about singularity through fashion. It’s just a “Notice me” typical type of attitude, it has absolutely nothing to do with anything pretty

I get that these complaints seem minor – but I would like to add a few things.
Yes I can hide the shoulders and helmet – the point is this: this is my legendary armor – I should not want to hide any of it.
I get that some people like that over-the-top stuff – but give us options. Give us the chance to choose between that over the top helmet and a less over the top one.
Those ears – and those spikes on the shoulders look ridiculous and honestly ruin things. Same thing on the knees.
You had a good thing going – stop where it’s good.
It cannot be too perfect.

This is wrong honestly. Very few people will actually have it.
It’s sad that 4 years after release the best heavy armor skin for humans is STILL Cultural T3 followed by the Phalanx Heavy Armor skin.
There is so much work and polish put into those sets – with a few effects they could easily be legendary tier.
Well seeing as how my characters are 90% charr I can only hope that it doesn’t clip and stretch too bad.

I didn’t mean to trivialize the complaints. The purpose of the armor over any other ascended armor is to look better. Nothing more. So complaints about how it looks are very legitimate ones. So when you say “I worked for it, I don’t want to hide it” I’m right there with you. That’s why I suggested Anet make multiple sets and didn’t just leave my post at “You can hide it, get over it”. It’s going to be a hard set to work for. You should feel proud to flaunt it. Not just re-skin it.
It cannot be too perfect.
